oaft i thought no one had written for mandolin and double bass. i wrote a piece on sibelius for solo mandolin and double bass. this is really cool!

Also the part at 1:22 is hard to get a good sound out of the bass. Once past the middle of your bass fingerboard you almost have to hover your finger over the string and lightly touch it

I agree with khanbass, its pretty messy. Its good, but I have heard much better. My bass teacher pulls this out, maybe having played it five times, and plays it practically perfectly (and then says that he knows its messy).

very nice touch with mandolin orchestra... bass playing lacks a lot of dynamics and is a little rough, almost like sawing, but emotion and phrasing are certainly there. Thanks.

i think that you have perhaps NOT heard a very good quality bassist if you are so inexperienced to think that bass does not have the exemplary attributes of perhaps a solo violin- it is simply harder to contrive, which in many ways makes it much more beautiful.

Firstly, I think you should know I study bass at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, so I'm pretty sure I know how good bass playing sounds... I have heard much better from my teachers and in masterclasses with European Bass players such as from the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, etc etc etc. Before you go insulting people, you should be humble enough to think about who you may be writing to. I did not say the bass playing was bad, so I think you need to learn to read.

Firstly, I am not, I am realistic, to the point, and I don't mince words. Secondly, I don't resort to using degrading profanities when posting a message. You can still make a valid and polite point without them.

By the way, after all, the music business is all about being able to take constructive criticism and build from it... Thats how you improve! It wasn't even a mean critique, just a comment on what I have heard. Yes it's a difficult instrument and its possible, but improvements are needed. Please learn to be tactful and read comments and interpret them before you comment bluntly. If I didn't know what I was talking about, I wouldn't have said anything, unlike others on youtube.

For reference, regarding the dynamics comment, if you look at the original score: for the cadenza or in the main recapitulation, very few of the piano dynamic markings are regarded, including in the harmonic passages and pedal points. Again, I did not once say it was 'bad,' I commented on the lack of dynamics which is true, and the sawing character of his playing! This is because of harsh bow strokes and contact point changes... Listen to Jeff Bradetitch or Duncan McTier and youll see my point.
