  • i have that same version, (im almost positive) and i did exactly what you did, but instead of getting that box that you got after clicking stream, it showed my playlists. though, the play bar is still moving along. should i be concerned? (and what would happen if i moved the bar?)

  • The most important question out of all the questions.

Are you a boy or girl?

  • When i converted a bandicam clip it was all screwed up.

  • The box won't come up after I click Stream. What's wrong?? It just takes me back to the blank screen.

  • im trying to convert flv to wmv its not working =(

  • Thank you so much! ^^ You rule!

  • superb !!

Just what I needed. I was searching for video conversion using vlc latest version.

Your video is simple, compact and your explanation clear.

    Thank you.

  • I have been hours trying to figure out how to convert (stream) a video file. Thank you so much for sharing these simple steps. You've made it so easy!!!

  • Can it be sent to youube after being converted through the same program or do I just hit browse through youtube as if I were uploading a picture?

  • i want to convert mp4 video to wmv to use in windows movie maker i did what you said and the video did get imported but the video quality was all messed up so i gave up i have looked at almost 20 videos on how to convert mp4 to wmv and i dont know which is the best way im starting to give up ugh :]

  • @vegetafangirl4life Just upload the MP4 vid into Windows Live Movie Maker and click the arrow under "Save Movie" and click "For Computer"

  • Nothing happens when i click stream

  • it's not streaming

  • Thank you!!!!!! I have been trying to do this but could never figure it out. The forums were pretty much useless on this topic! Now I can convert all my stupid realplayer audio files to mp3!

  • It's taken over a half hour to convert my file. It's 270MB and it's still not done. :(

  • Thank you very much for your help. This is the most up to date instruction video for users new to VLC conversions. You have made it very simple and thank you again.

  • BLIDELL GREEVENS

  • So i did everything and filled it all out then I press stream and nothing happens!HELP

  • damn. I didnt specify a path for the file. After I did this it did seem to start doing something. But it crashes immediatly after

  • hmm After I hit stream it doesn't seem to do anything.

  • I am trying to convert Full length episodes of something with subs already on the file, but when I convert them my subs disappear everything else is perfect.Do you know how to make my subs stay with the video?

  • @DrJigglez96 are the subs in a separate file or are they a part of the video itself?

  • @CreosoteFoundation they are on the video, but they are soft subs.

  • @DrJigglez96 hmm what's the video extension? It could be that VLC might not support whatever your soft-subbed video file type is.

  • @dreyx2bot I have no idea, all i know is its its own stream, one being video, another audio, then the subs

  • I don't get any Audio, nor do I get the Subs...

    Video is 10/10 though.

  • @XanthousXenophobe Sorry I replied with my other account by mistake...

"Thanks for the review. Did you try different AV settings? If that didn't work, shoot me a message. I think VLC has been acting up recently, so I'll look into it."

  • @dreyx2bot ... I gave up and tried using Handbrake... It's converted the file without any problems, A 10/10 | V 10/10 ( MP4, MPEG-4, AAC + add subtitles, Remember to change Constant Quality from 12 to 1 . The file gets about a 1/3 larger, but i consider that something minor in exchange for being able to play it on my TV :).

Using VLC to convert didn't really give me a lot of options, so if you've got multiple audio/subtitle tracks, try using Handbrake.^^

  • I've tried 8 or more converters today, and 1 of them gave me a 6/10 compared to the original... without subs. This looks promising though :).

  • THANKS <3 -subbed-

  • Thank you very much for the excellent tutorial. The first one I found that makes any sense and actually works, great job and thank you gain.

  • i love you, you have saved me again!

  • mine says it cant open the mrl i dont get it ughhh oh and whats the log?

  • Thank you this was very helpful as I was trying to understand the older tutorial.

  • it sai it could not open the ncoder but it seams to be streaming

  • oh wait, it's working now, ^^;

  • didn't work for me :|

  • Very useful, thanks for the help.

  • MUCHAS GRACIAS ME SIRVIO MUCHO

  • cheers

  • Thank you very much for making this. I've been looking all over the place for tutorials on how to convert files in VLC all day, but every single one I found was for the older version of VLC which I no longer have. Very helpful!

  • When I do this, the audio doesn't sync with the video and the short test I uploaded comes out entirely gray. >:P I've tried everything I can think of. I'm getting really frustrated!!!

  • @Sarandib22 That's odd...what formats are you converting between?

  • How do I convert a VLC to a WMV/anything that can be used on windows movie maker? This didn't work. It just stays as VLC. -.-

  • Good video. No BS just to the point.

  • Thank you Drey! Super helping tutorial :)

Now, I've a whole lots of avi files to convert into mp3... Is there a way I can just queue them up and not sit on each one of them? Can VLC handle that?

    Thanks.

  • @markkussusa No problem! And yes, I believe so.

  • I'm converting a .mkv file to avi to allow my computer to cope with resolution. Origionally the file plays 720p--I thought converting to avi would help with chop and it does. However, when I play the file it has NO sound. :( Should I do something differently or am I out of luck?

  • Hi there. How can i convert Belator Media file to VLC? thanks for your help

  • @VanHeusen69 Sorry I don't recognize that file type. If you'd like me to research it though, just ask and i'll be more than happy to.

  • thank you so much, this really helped me :)

  • thank you for posting this video

    it was very helpful :)

  • What is the difference between Convert and stream. This is very confusing. I want to convert a file ending with one that has different codecs. Why would one select "stream" and not convert??

  • @coachgeo I'm not sure why you pick stream even when you're converting, but that's how it is. A definition of streaming (copied from another source): Streaming video is content sent in compressed form over the Internet and displayed by the viewer in real time. Conversion is changing the file type of the video (or in some cases, audio).

  • How do I broadcast to JTV with this. I just cant figure it out. Please help us!

  • @analyzingfunny That's streaming. This is converting. It's confusing because the first button you select for converting is called "stream". I may be posting a stream video in the next few weeks if you want to check in on that.

  • nice vedio,Subscribed, Hey could you please tell me how to convert .flv to wav to play those video songs in cd player.Thanks.

  • @Arjun007ize it's the same process, except you start with a .flv and put in .wav for the resulting file. You may have to play around with settings to get the best audio and visual results.

  • Thank you very much for this!:) You saved me from making a complete a*** of myself. You see I went to a professional computer expert company and asked them to upgrade my PC in order for me to rip DVDs to Youtube - and they installed the VLC. So when someone on a tutorial for the older version claimed the new version wasn`t up to such tasks, I felt cheated. But I saw a DVD box when you clicked file, and assume the process are similar for DVDs. So Thank you! This has been very helpful.:)

  • does it work for the file type .rmvb? coz I try to convert this file type and I get the video without audio

  • @creamychoco1234 sorryy I don't recognize that file extension.

  • Is it possible to convert a VLC file to run on a DVD using this method?

  • @RudeRaptor Yes, there are several file types that can be burned onto a DVD and they are all covered by this method.

  • Thank you so much, nice video. Helped alot.

  • when you convert file can it open on song vegas pro 9.0

  • @MsOinkk I believe so, yes.

  • great stuff! all the other videos are pretty old :P

  • Thank You

  • thanks, this really helped.

  • I do the exact same thing as in the video but when I click stream nothing happens... it just shows the starting screen... can you tell why this could be??

  • @ploekje13 what do you mean by the starting screen?

  • this is a great tutorial thanks.

    i got everything down.

    but i was wondering

im adding subtitles to my video

and the use subtitles box was checked

i stopped the vid around the singing time

to see if it would have subs

but it didnt. do u happent o know why?

i browsed and inputted the sub files already.

  • @Buddhaho Hey sorry I'm not really fluent with the whole subtitle inputting deal, but I'll check into it for ya! :]

  • @dreyx2bot alright thanks :)

  • @Buddhaho i have the same problem, i wondering why it asks for a subtitle file in the first place and then once again in the profile tab.

if i select to watch the stream while it's being processed i can see subs, but once i reopen the converted file they disappear :(

  • Finaly the new version been looking for this tnx alot =D!!

  • very helpful; I'm a hands on person; I needed to see it being done; Thank You

  • OMG OMG OMG thx for the help rlly wanted it thank you

  • same this is happenin to me @dXjAMO

  • Okay, i can get my VLC player to stream videos but i allways need to have vlc-player or other computer too? If i just give my streaming addres and he put it in web-browser it doesnt load!

Allways need to start VLC player, that is crap :(

  • @kampinisu it depends on your file type. some browsers may not have the plugins to play your file, or the computer does not have the program to play it.

  • Thank you. Very helpful, and pretty voice.

  • okay. at 0:51, on my player it does not have the "add" or "delete. ?? any info would be great... :)

  • @melaughnot2often hmm i'm not sure whats up but i think i'd check two things: 1) which version are you using and 2) did you hit "convert/save"

besides that i'm sorry i dunno whats wrong :(

  • i dont get what im doing wrong.. i do exactly what is shown here with my flv video, only difference is, instead of typing ".mp4" i type ".avi" or ".wmv" what i need for windows movie maker.. it goes through the whole streaming part.. but i can't find the new video!! can sombody please help?

  • @DXJamo hm does this happen with all file types? i guess i'd check to make surethat i'm saving to the right location by clicking "browse", then while the video is streaming, open that folder and you can watch the file. other than that i'd try messing around, maybe type the whole location into the bar. hope that helps!

  • Great video...very helpful. Thank you!!

  • If I try to convert a video flv from youtube the video stream is missing. Only adio is being converted. Any tips?

  • try playing around with the transcoding options and see if that helps.

  • I have the same problem. I suspect a bug with VLC. I tried several .flv files.

  • So I thought I had this all figured out.. but I was wrong.

I do it step by step and it all seems fine and dandy, but when I try to play the file on my PSP, it shows up as a corrupted file.

Currently its a WMA file but I want to be an mp3 or mp4 file, either one is fine, but for some reason, its just corrupted. I dunno why this is.

    Solutions?

  • the first thing i would look at is the transcoding options. see if changing those around will help. if not, try fiddling with other settings. other than that, i'm not really sure what's going on.

  • It worked but i want it to convert so i can put my movies into a squence using windows movie maker but the movie maker doesnt inport vlc to i want to convert to mp4 or wmv to make the movie this totorial doesnt tell me how to convert to work on another device.

  • you can convert to any extension you want. this video only demonstrates one type. just a note that if you want to to use another extension that is compatible with another program, you may have to play around with the transcoding options a little to see what works best with that particular extension.

  • Thank you so much!! I wonder why they even put in a "convert" option under stream!!

  • wow, i used this to strip a track from iTunes of DRM.... bitchin'

  • A question to the author, I have been fiddling around with the stream function for several hours. The file will stream only when I check the box to 'Display Locally' which is killing time.

Any ideas to get it to work without that box checked? There is no error, it just doesn't do anything.

  • when it's not checked, the slider should still move and the title car should still say "streaming." then the file will show up where it's saved, even if the video isn't being displayed locally. if that's not happening, i'm not sure what's wrong. maybe try a different version or redownload and see if that helps. sorry and hope things clear up!

  • Ah thank you soooo much!!

  • I'm trying to batch process aiff files into mp3s. Can I do that with VLC? How?

  • darn a can't get it to work i always only end up getting audio only but good luck other people.

  • I did the same as what you did and it didn't work. (This is a file-type not recognised by Quicktime). However, I didn't want to convert to mp4 because it is a format that is useless to me. I want to convert wmv to avi. Judging by how it failed to convert wmv to mp4, I'm not feeling very hopeful.

  • @3168211 i haven't researched that yet. this video is just about converting video files, but if you'd like i could make one about streaming online

  • thank you!!!!

  • Thank you so much!!! i've been trying to figure this out for so long!!
