I own a few guns and am in the process of carrying because of 2 incidents. I was at Ft. Hood in September of 2009... enough said about that. Second incident, I was followed into a parking lot behind a Cracker barrel and (stupidly I was not paying attention to my surroundings...) I put my car in park, got out, turned around and cold steel was placed right against my fore head. I could only beg the guy not to kill me. It was embarassing as a man... This is why I carry in my car and will soon on me

For example in England the crack down on the liberties of the law abiding citizens (i.e. strict gun control) did lead to in some cases the same guns being used by both sides of the gang conflicts because they were so hard to find. But violent crime is still huge and I thing legalizing firearms would lower that.
The first job of a father is to scare the hell out of any potential BF before the relationship gets going. It can be done discreetly and pointedly with out creating a scene. If the BF knows the daughter is well loved, and protected by a large well armed family he will think twice before starting trouble.

Great advice. In Iowa, the gun permits have gone up 271% from last year. I have no problem with this at all. I do believe the rate of crime has drop a little because of that fact. I've been here. A guy I grew up with and was good friends with, lost his job on the police dept after beating his now ex-wife. After he was released from jail he busted out her car window and harassed her night and day. So not only do most police not care (in Decatur, Al anyway) but they can be just as bad. People can fool you and you never really know what someone could be hiding. Having a firearm handy is never a bad idea.
Im for the right to bare arms even if i cant have it here in Sweden but one should be able to defend oneself meaning if one kills the criminal in self defence one should not be send to jail for homocide och have go get out on a hundred of thousands of dollars bound but maybe in the US you dont go to jail if you defend yourself against a criminal guess that varius depending on the state you live in.

The police are only reactive, except in certain extreme cases, so they won't do anything until it is too late.I have recently gone thru the girls-growin-up routine. We had three girls, the first was great, the second had problem, and the third had way more problems. It didn't matter what we told her she still did it and it scared us because we knew things happen. Luckily she was never seriously hurt or worse. Weapons for protection and video for evidence, that's about the best you can do.

Lots of psycos out there. Pepper spray doesn't always work, but it might give a girl a second or 2 to get the hell out of the area of a violent date situation. Years ago when I was 16-21 yrs old it seemed like every other new girl had some jerk ex boyfriend stalking them. Being a good size kid back then I was put to the task of having psycos scram. It states that, among other things, that if someone is on your property after dark and is engaging in something even remotely threatening that the resident can presume that the intruder means harm and is allowed to shoot to kill, not to be questioned by the state in court. I've been here. A guy I grew up with and was good friends with, lost his job on the police dept after beating his now ex-wife. After he was released from jail he busted out her car window and harassed her night and day. So not only do most police not care (in Decatur, Al anyway) but they can be just as bad. People can fool you and you never really know what someone could be hiding. Having a firearm handy is never a bad idea.
