  • Congrats from Argentina you have a nice & smart son. I have a 2 1/2 year old son, that was implanted 1 year ago (2 ears simultaneously), and it`s amazing how his life changed, it just opened up a world full of possibilities. He is doing great now, he goes to a regular kindergarden, and is able to hear as good as any other kid. I`m glad I see this video, I`m happy now, but I`m now sure that it will only get better. My best wishes for this big little man and his family

  • CYBORGS!!!

    <3

  • @HunterAlucard Success!!!!!! The way of the future.......

  • dmfsmartfox why are you ignoring your mother's urgent request for help. You know that she will be evicted from her apartment on/about 2/16/11 and although you are easily able to afford the $600.00/month she needs to survive, you are refusing to even see her. That is right. When I call where you live, I am told that you won't see your mother and that "someone" should help her get Section 8 housing. What kind of a son will let his own mother become homeless when he has the means to help? Shame!

  • You must train deaf kids with ci to practice their safety then they are okay ci is not a safe tool. Your doctors won't tell the truth i am a deaf mechanic I get a hit and get a nasty shock sometimes I must practice my mechanic safety. I am okay my mechanic work is dangerous

  • You do not need to educate me and deaf people. We are not against ci that is not for every deaf person a few deaf people with ci are good at listening and speaking

  • I need no hearing and i use my mind and sight being deaf is natural and beautiful you are ashamed of having deaf babies

  • @dmfsmartfox dont be stupid

  • @dmfsmartfox I don't think people are suggesting this is more natural or more beautiful. It's just a tool. The person remains whole either way.

  • @dmfsmartfox get fucked

  • No I am deaf I know that hearing parents force deafvbabies to have ci.

  • GOD BLESS HE JUST LIGHTS UP THE ROOM MY SIX YEAR OLD SUN BARELY GRUNTS A FEW WORDS, ILL SHOW HIM MR TREVER SO THAT HE CAN LEARN HOW TO CONVERCE AND SMILE AT THE SAME TIME, THANKS FOR SHARING.

  • it makes me sad when deaf people are so stubborn

im taking an ASL class in highschool and "deaf culture" is no damn different than the other THOUSANDS of cultures in the world, they need to get over it and understand all this beautiful music your missing out on... i would cry for days if i couldnt hear music anymore... i have diabetes, and if they made a magical robot pancreas, id get it, even if that made me a f***ing "cyborg"...

  • This child must be careful ci is a dangerous tool that can kill the kid by the means of hard hit or high voltage. He must be educated for the ci safety. Good luck

  • last time I checked hard hits and high voltage can kill anyone... just because you are for hearing doesn't mean everyone agrees.

  • hes so smart and carries out a good conversation for just getting his turned on

  • Stem Cell > cochlear implant

    human + machine = 40% success

    organ + Metal = Cyborg

    Human + Stem cell = 80-100% success

    organ + new organ = 100% human

Don't be IDIOT! School for deaf are available since 1830s!!!! don't fuckin put a machine thing on your child!

  • @Zeylouesis actually you cannot replace nerves around the brain or near the brain other wise it gets more damaging

  • @Zeylouesis Cochlear Implants are here to stay. More and more deaf adults are making the move to get this amazing technology. Why wouldnt you want to open doors to opportunity? Most parents would give this gift to their children to give them as many opportunities as they can. It is just good parenting. Would you also consider a hearing aid a machine?

Thank God for schools for the deaf, unfortunately they are not in every town. Human + CI = success

  • @Zeylouesis please don't spread hate.

  • @Zeylouesis Why so they can be ignorant like you? I wear CIs and I bet you never call me a freaking Cyborg to my face. You a coward that doesn't want anyone to prosper.

  • The whole "in denial" thing stems from the deaf community being incredibly tight-knit and thus resistant to anything that might compromise their community. I don't think it's wrong at all to want your kid to be able to hear and appreciate the sounds of music, a heartbeat, warning signals, radio shows, sizzling food, the air conditioner, a window breaking, a car alarm, their parents' voices, birds, and so much more. Selfish is depriving them of this right and destroying their options.

  • does the implant need some sort of power?

  • thumbs up. f***in savage

  • what is a cochlear implant?

  • I love him! I love his voice! He's so cute! Congrats!

  • He's so smart! Lol, i didnt even know any of the ingredients in meat balls when i was his age! Im so happy that he can hear!

  • If you waited 20 years or so, The kid would have normal hearing, Now you fucked up his hearing and to him everyones voice will forever sound like robots.

  • @Dreamingallyear How do you know? Kids born deaf, or mostly deaf, don't usually just magically regain their hearing to normal standards as they grow older. It's a rare thing to happen. Now though, he can speak normally. He doesn't sound like he has a hearing problem at all. And how do you know that it makes voices sound like robots?

  • @zieziechan When that kid is about 25 years old, there will probably be able to regrow inner ear hair cells in humans. I said that vioces sound like robots because that's how noises sound to people with cochlear implants, It sounds all static and robotic like as if it was comming through a broken speaker or speaking through a fan. it's all choppy and distorted like.

  • @Dreamingallyear And if that ISN'T possible by then? And personally, if I were deaf, I'd just be glad to be able to hear, even if it wasn't completely clear.

  • @Dreamingallyear You speak with first hand experience. Are you not happy with the results of your CI? Maybe before you beak off about what you think a CI can't do you check out this video and share in the success of this CI recipient along with the hundreds of thousands of happy CI patients. They are here to stay. They work. That is fact. Parenting by hoping they will PROBABLY be able to regrow hair cells in 20 years is not parenting. It is neglect.

  • @peterb362 Muah! perfecto and beautifully put.

  • @zieziechan because people who used to have normal hearing and then lost it, get the implant, and say that the voices sound robotic to them.

  • @PwnforceFrank how does a robot sound? Last time I checked a robot can use any voice that a person with enough know how makes them sound. I used hearing aids until my hearing was totally gone so I know what normal sounds sound like and I wear CIs now and it is the same. If you are against something and want to do something about it... educate yourself or your point will never be heard.

  • @Dreamingallyear 20 years? If science is able to regrow parts to restore hearing by then (which the most certainly will), he will be unable to talk like a normal person, because his brain is way past that stage of absorption. He would essentially sound retarded to put it bluntly. They could always remove the implant in the future and biologically restore it, when they have that technology.

  • @Dreamingallyear I find it difficult to believe that a kid who speaks so well, with such a natural tone and inflexion, has learned to do so while hearing nothing but "robot voices". If you or someone you love had a CI and it didn't work right, that's a shame. But that doesn't mean it won't work for someone else. From what I'm hearing and seeing in this video, it is nothing but a blessing to this kid. His parents made the right decision. I'm glad they didn't listen to naysayers like you.

  • @LunarMovements robot voices... man these people that are against CI are killing me. They are witch hunting.

  • Does he say that meatballs are "squooshy and squashy"? Nice!

    Your son is very sweet.

  • he is so cute.! his speech is impeccable.

  • This is so inspiring. My son is 23 months and got implanted at 13 months. No it is not an end all to everything, but it gives him options. If he decides when he get older that he wants to immerse himself in the deaf culture that is business. But I want him to be able to hear when he's going toward the hot pot and I'm telling him "No, it's hot" and he turns around and say "hot. I thank God everyday for the CI.

  • ADORABLE...CONGRATS TO THE PARENTS FOR MAKING THIS HUGE DECISION FOR YOUR LIL ONE!!

  • he's cute. It's so cool how this is possible! this is great...

  • ABSOLUTELY Amazing. This child hears when nature said he never would. I love this.

  • @lexterthegirl

Oh my god, he's lovely, and his voice is adorable.

He could have never had this experience, telling his parents and peers about his meatballs, without those implants. :3

  • this is great that people can hear sounds. Its a gift we take for granted like eyesight. He can now experience the Beatles.

  • @vxenon67 i AM LOVING THE FACT OF THIS TOO AND I BET HIS PARENTS ARE PROUD OF THEIR SON AS CAN BE. THE SOUNDS ARE MORE ROBTIC IF ANYTHING BUT IT SURE BEATS SO SOUND

  • What a precious present. He is absolutely adorable and has the cutest voice and face EVER! Long healthy happy life to you and your family Trevor! I love you sweetie.

  • Success story? There are no success rates anywhere....

  • idk if the CI is good or bad for parents to choose for their children. How do parents explain to their kids that they can't hear when the processor is off? How do they communicate with their children w/o some sign language when the processor is off? what if the kid won't use the processor?

  • @rhondie4ever if the parents don't make the decision early the child loses out on the months and years that the brain for the ability to recognize sound properly

  • HEaring parents want their deaf kids to be hearing, they do not understand the deaf world. It scares them to think their child is 'broken'. In fact they are not, and in fact not all implants work as well has this young mans have worked. look at the research. There is nothing wrong with looking into the impkant, but no this, so many time when kids that are implanted at a young age hit the teen years, off go the implants! He has hearing peers, does he have any deaf peers? Why not learn asl?

  • @WCHCOR ...what the hell is your problem?

  • NO captions??????????

  • Obviously not. Why would you ask?

  • It's rhetorical. Hence, the many question marks...

Why would someone post a vdo relevant to the Deaf without bothering to caption? CI technology is only modern eugenics in the spirit of Graham Bell.

  • Hey, I went to look at a lot of video on cochlear implant, and each and every one of those video is great, even your too. I was going to get myself a cochlear implant one month or two. I never have surgery before. I know it require surgery to put that implant inside the head. Is he alright after surgery?

  • Thank you for this video. It gives me and my wife hope.

  • Believe us, its wonderful our son has the implant and is great. Of course needs Years of speech therapy but at the end is priceless

Meet the FIRST Ecuadorian Deaf kid with Cochlear Implant in Toronto (03/17/1933)

  • Sorry... wrong date.

Believe us, its wonderful our son has the implant and its great. Of course needs Years of speech therapy but at the end is priceless.

Meet the FIRST Ecuadorian Deaf kid with Cochlear Implant in Toronto (03/17/1993).

To watch our son videos just search: First Cochlear I.- Primer Ecuatoriano

  • Or just search the word:"Sankevso"

  • hes so cute, how old is he?

  • 5...

  • My daughter got her ci june of 2008 and three months have passed by and I can let everyone know that she is responding to her name, can say mama and papa. She was 1 and a half when she got it and she is doing well!!!Everyone against it should learn more and stop being so rude. If you decided to sign, great for you!! But dont be rude to other people that make different choices than you!

  • tnx for this video,im a parent from philippines and my son who is 3 years old just diagnosed to hav profound hearing loss, he's wearing hearing aid ryt now ang undergoes speech therapy, im looking for a kind hearted person to sponsor my son to hav CI, i think its much better for my son to hear and hav a normal ang healthy lyf ahead, tnx and god bless.

  • his voice is adorable!!

  • i like to say u did good job giving him the choice to hear. i got my cochlear implant when i was four and now i am eighteen years old, going to university.

Just ingore ppl who hates CI. They are just jealous of our cochlear implant sucesses.

  • Too bad the Cochlear company who made this child's implant is so corrupt. The government found cause to intervene in a whistleblower complaint by their CFO and will fine them for bribing doctors in order to control referral patterns and keep prices so high that thousands of qualified candidates cannot get the implant!

  • omg that child talks soooo beautifully! he has only reaffirmed my desire to become a speech pathologist.

  • Wow, at least you're not bitter about it. Yes, you can get an MRI, yes, the part on your head is weird, and yes, you can have the implant removed. My son is STILL deaf. But he hears everything and is not limited in any way shape or form. There's a better way to get your point across. God bless you.

  • dont say CI sucks until you tried it then u can say it sucks.

All deaf parents are just jealous of their kids that has CI because they can hear and they can't. Having CI gives you more freedom, independent, more safer and more adpat to the real world.

And having big weird thingy on ur head, pfff its small and u cant even see it.

you must have a sad soundless life.

  • As has already been said, it is flawed reasoning to say the child should make their own mind up. By then it will be too late given the critical period for language development. Being a parent is about making difficult decisions, and I applaud any parent who weighs up all the available evidence (which is on the side of CIs btw) and then decides.

Oh, and I am an audiologist and have a cochlear implant :-)

  • Clemdog- like it has already been said, it is important to implant as young as possible because children learn all their major language skills before they are 5. My son is almost 6 and is already asking for his 2nd implant. This is not a barbaric procedure and there was certainly no "suffering" on my child's part...

  • im not all against cochlear implant, but the parents should not make children suffer with a device that is drilled through the skull... The parents should let the kid decide if they want cochlear implant...

    Long Live ASL!!

  • I am so glad I got a cochlear implant and a hearing aid to one ear and the other

I am so glad I can hear even though I dont hear what you guys hear! I am PROUD of being deaf and wearing an implant

I hope what Sammieg89 in the comments are wrong!!

  • It's perfectly fair to give a child a choice.

I chose to get mine, for the communication with hearing people who can't sign.

But i'm still deaf, in and out of the deaf community.

  • I don't think it's fair to not give the child a choice. People see a Deaf person and see someone to pity or something to fix and that is just not fair. It should be a choice not forced on a one year old let the child grow up in the Deaf community and make the choice when they are older. Again I am thrilled for Trevor but cochlear implants are not great for all.

  • Ofcourse like I said the younger the better and positive reinforcment and the support of loved ones along with therapy is key to any childs success! It's so sad that there is still so much negativity towards what has been so positive for so many! I would never try to push a decision like this on to someone else! It's a PERSONAL choice and I understand it isn't one everyone would make! It's too bad some feel it's their right to judge what is best for my child or anyone else who is deaf.

  • As for the success rate, here are some actual statistics (you can find this by googling coclear success rates):

"Q: What is the success rate for cochlear implant treatments/surgeries?

A: The success rate for cochlear implants that work very well is 99.6%. There is less than a 1% device failure rate for cochlear implants, and in these rare instances, there is always the possibility of re-implanting or implanting the other side."

  • Wow how amazing is Trever! My son is 5 1/2 and has been implanted in his right ear for almost 2 years! His speech and Language has gone through the roof. He went from being almost completely non verbal to speaking very well and excelling in school! The younger they are implanted the better as in Trever's case being implanted at one. How disappointing to caome here and see negative comments, I agree the debate is getting OLD!

  • My daugher had a cochlear implant at nine months, and is already caught up speech-wise to her age group. (she's one) She won't need loads of speech therapy or bi-weekly trips to the audiologist or special classes and employment. Cochlear implants work, especially in young children, and it's about time everyone woke up and said, Thank god this is one thing these lovely children won't have to worry about, and they certainly won't have to build their entire identity around some faulty hair cells.

  • This debate is getting old. Why on earth would you want to limit a kid to communicating with a fraction of the population, and to needing interpreters his whole life? The rest of the world is not about to learn sign language, it will never, ever happen, so why make his life harder? These results are amazing, cochlear implants are effectively treating the loss of a human sense, and all these people can do is criticize them.

  • So what? None of your business! I love CI. Ci is still DEAF period!

  • As for the previous poster, i wonder why he thinks that my son is being "tortured" because i do not use ASL. i see no signs in him that he is a trotured child. i do not use ASL but in saying that, i do not expect him to solely rely on hearing to communicate. he lip reads, uses hand prompts and if i cant understand his requests , i say "show me" and he will take me to what he wants and it is all fine.

  • Trevor is great!!. my sonis bilaterally implanted too and seeing trevor gives me great confidence that he will succeed with his implant.

  • ASL now! Want a child to succeed? ASL Now! Cochlear implants don't work for all children. The failures end up in the deaf community. Then doctors and oral schools then blame the deaf community. The same people that pushed for oralism and cochlear implants hide their fault. More Deaf teachers who are fluent in ASL are needed! Hearing parents need to learn ASL and stop torturing their kids into being hearing when they are not.

  • I agree w/ you about the failure of the US educational system in regard to the deaf. BUT --Could you please provide some numbers about all of these "failures" you are writing about??? And why do you keep saying these "failures" whoever they are, "end up in the deaf community" -- is that a bad thing??? Also, you cannot assume that all hearing parents of CI kids are not using ASL. Be very careful of the kinds of generalizations you make.

  • You should be VERY careful what kind of generalizations you make. How do you know if the child has no part in the decision making process or not? My parents asked my sister if she wanted this and she said that all she wanted to do was hear. My parents did not torture my sister into having a CI WHATSOEVER! My parents wanted my sister to be oral because they wanted her to be able to communicate with everyone and not have an interpreter follow her for the rest of her life! My sister loves her CI!

  • Cochlear implants are like giving a blind person coke bottle glasses and telling them they can see. You want a successful deaf child? Have the child be taught in American Sign Language= culture, independence and success. Mind you beware of those made up signs that mirror english but they are not a language. Cochlear implants do not work on all deaf and actually the failures end up in the deaf community later in life with no language or self esteem but dependent on society to survive.

  • @Informmemore ASL is one thing. but deaf culture, as a distinct american subculture, is a joke. The fact of this matter is, is that there are a lot of deaf people who never got the implants, already think there are too few deaf people to communicate with and thus slander anyway who says otherwise because they already feel isolated. Well forgive us for not wanting our children growing up in a shrinking culture with limited opportunities.

  • aww hes my neibor hes like the sweetest kid ever heyy carlson chick...lindsey

  • omg he is sooo cute and he's my niebor like i said before! i was talking 2 him today!

  • he's my niebor!!!

  • awesome. When i got my first hearing aid at age 16 and i started making big improvements in speech therapy and graduated from speech in 2004 of January. Without hearing aid i would never graduated from speech therapy. I now wear hearing aids in both ears and doing very good but have trouble understanding what people say.

  • Excellent Trever, I saw your video and am Happy to see such development, my 2 yr old son has been implanted and he's taking therapy, we are seeing a huge development and working with him to teach him to spoke.

Keep up your therapy Champ and Congrats to your Mom & Dad.

    A Happy Dad

  • If you deny a child of the hearing world, you are denying him/her of being part of two cultures and being succesful in the hearing world. I cannot believe that parents can still be so naive and not understand the benefits of cochlear implants. If you are deaf, you lack many skills that prevent you from succeeding. I don't discriminate, I just look at the data: deaf people have lower IQ's overall, their reading skills are also lower. Why can't people be bicultural?

  • I am a doctor and have worked with this population. Bottom line, if you want to succeed in the hearing world, you have to be able to communicate well with the hearing world. How many successful deaf people do you know? And by this I mean, people who are making a significant change in this world. Do not deny deaf children the opportunity to hear.

  • Deaf children would succeed if they were taught their language (ASL) instead of made up signs to try to mirror English. Many deaf people advocate for the rights of deaf children but how can they succeed when most deaf children are born to hearing parents. The parents while in shock are told by doctors cochlear implants can fix the problem. Those are lies. Yes, you've got the one to two kids that succeed with the implants. They rest are pushed into the deaf community and as cochlear failures.

  • Being Deaf does not dictate will if a person will succeed. Not all hearing people are successful. I know many successful Deaf people and they did not use hearing aids or cochlear implants. They are successful because they were "allowed" to learn their language! American Sign Language and then learn English. No, not signed English or those made up signs but ASL it is their language, culture and history. How can you expect Deaf students to have high IQ's when the system does not provide.

  • youtube74, what an uneducated response. Before posting something maybe you should do a little research. Dont project your opion on others.

  • I wouldn't say you have an uneducated response but I would say that your arguement will be used against you.

  • Yay Trever!

  • I am happy for Trever but remember this one kid succeeds and how many countless other children with cochlear implants fail and end up in the deaf community with the countless others who were raised oral, or taught made up signs instead of ASL. Then the doctors, teachers blame the deaf community. Deaf people should have a right to make their own decisions that includes the deaf children. All that money could be used for better services instead of all those cochlear implants that don't work!

  • and what about the Deaf kids who are born to hearing parents that do both, a cochlear implant and ASL? Not every person who chooses to have a cochlear implant for themselves or their child is in denial. Every time I hear comments like yours, I weep! There is no need to assume that every parents denies their child.

  • You make me sad. As a parent of a Deaf child who attends a school for the Deaf. You don't have enough information to say that this child is "parroting". My daught was born hard of hearing and wore heraing aids daily until two months ago when she became profoundly Deaf. You listen to my child crying everyday that she wants me to fix her hearing aids, or why is the radio broken and then you talk to me about making you cry.

  • Wow... I just don't even know what to say! This child is extremely bright and his language is impeccable! The fact that there are people like you out there that my child might encounter makes me want to weep! What a mean spirited comment! Didn't you ever hear if you don't have something nice to say... I'm sure you know the rest!

  • What a cutie!

  • WOW!!! what a smart boy!

I want Ayate to be as successful as him hen she turns 5 :) Hopefully she can with only one implant..
