  • @Alemme01 exactly

  • Yeah I remember this game. You're right it's unplayable. And I beat E.T. for the 2600 but could not figure out SwordQuest to save my life.

  • Fireworld, its sequel, is more-or-less the origin of the clusterfuck.

  • ...i remember this one...difficult it was...took a while for me to figure out how to beat it...

  • Atariage.com has scans of the instruction manuals for almost every game made for the system.

  • This is a game? Looks like the sporadic thoughts of a hardcore meth head.

  • @DreamNeonBlack it is an atari game made for a contest back in the 80's

  • I owned Earthworld and Fireworld brand new back in the day, and could only get the first two EW clues (and none of the FW clues). Both games came with comic books. I remember the clues related to the comics; there was a word hidden in the comic panel referenced by the clue. So, just examine each of the comic book panels carefully to get the clue words. I know that's cheating, but I never figured out any patterns to these frustrating "games", and thus eventually stopped playing them entirely.

  • @StanCatt That was pretty much sums up my experience with the game.

I did enjoy the comic, though. Kinda wish it continued on even without the video game.

  • This is playable game. Just not a game you think is made well. But have you seen the video with oversized Tetris pieces? Are those the kind of games you like showing off?

  • Hilarious! I remember this game and the other "Swordquest" titles too. Always had problems playing them, they made no sense. Apparently the enclosed comic book was supposed to help, but I could never make heads or tails of it.

  • dude its an atari game give it a break

  • the only thing fun about this game was the comic...

  • I remember playing this. Never cared for the game, but I loved the comic that came with it. I read it over and over.

  • people must have been bored shit in the early 80s to play this

  • well thats not the wole reason do u know bout the prizes??

  • 4 prize of 25000 $ each !!

  • But 3 disapeared

  • there u go now make sure ur not a coke addict

  • @Cortake Speaking of $25000 prizes, there was never a contest for waterworld or airworld. What ever happened to the prizes (a crown and a philosopher stone)?

  • @DizzyBlizzy Jack Tramiel, on-and-off owner of Atari through the decades supposedly still has all these. The items included the Philosopher's Stone (A huge chunk of jade in a diamond encrusted box), the Crown of Life (which was loaded with all kinds of gems) and the Sword of Ultimate Sorcery (made of solid gold and silver).

  • it was made for a competition

  • I watcher AVGN video and wow...

Playing video games pays! Gold prizes for unlocking the secerts in this game.

This game is playable, You dont even know what to do.

  • LISTEN UP EVERYBODY: This game is not unplayable, it's just a name I have for these videos, instead of having an uninspired title like "Bad Games". Besides, you guys have to realize how hard it is to track down instruction manuals for Atari 2600 games, so how the hell am I supposed to know what to do? Watch 10 minute videos on where every secret is? I shouldn't have to look up strategies and crap just to play a goddamn game. dirtduggler, I'm not yelling at you, I'm just explaining this to others

  • @Alemme01 Oh but when it dame with the manual The prizes were OHSO worth it if you dont know what they are WHY DID YOU FUCKING GET THE GAME

  • @iamironpenguin I didn't get the game when the contest was still going on, so how the hell was I supposed to know about it?

  • @Alemme01

It is inasnely Famous -_- the 5 prizes in total is worth $150,000

  • @Alemme01 no it is unplayable because part of the game was the Atari contest never happened, and that is the whole point of playing the game was the contest, that and the company went under before a real version of the game was released

  • @Alemme01

Lots of Manuals can be found on sites like atariage.com

    Now try again! :D

  • I just watched the AVGN review, and it has quite the epic backstory, unfortunately, without instruction manuals or anything, it is, well, y'know.

  • This game is a legend!

  • Gotta love those old atari games. Half the time you had no idea what to do, but we still kept on playing it. I don't know how many hours me and my dad tried to figure out E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  • Even worse if you just get the cartridge/CD for games no?

Might have literally no information but the game with the name on it, and tons of games don't give a lot of hints.

  • i love the way you get visually and audially raped evertyime you go through a door

  • lmfao

  • beep boop buzz HONK

  • Watch an Atari 2600 game in higher quality?

We should like a higher resolution for this?

  • I played this game and received an "Official Atari Swordquest Challenge Certificate of Merit!"

  • This is your brain.

And this...is your brain on crack.

  • This was the biggest joke of a game ever. They even told you you could win money if you finished the game. I can picture the execs from Atari sitting back hitting a big fat joint saying "lets make a game, no ha ha, lets make 4 games, and tell the public they could win money if they win.. and the games won't make any sense".

  • I totally remember that. There was supposed to be a gold sword for the grand prize, or something. And inside the game's box, there was supposed to be a comic book that you could refer to whenever some numbers came up on the screen. My copy didn't have the comic book -- yeah, just kind of, guess what you're supposed to do.

  • you got a chance to win gold look up AVGN swordquest and then delete your comment asshole

  • The ONLY thing I enjoyed about the Swordquest Earthworld game was its "Action& Danger" levels. Otherwise,it was a terrible mindnumbing boringly awful joke of a game.And...it was an R P G?

  • And that damned amulet!

  • don´t bother, I had the instruction manual and the comic book and still I had no idea what was going on

  • I had no clue what I was supposed to do in that game.See my other comments about this game.

  • this game was an extreme laugh-fest for me XD

  • atari on crack

  • Man I had this game and I played it constantly, only because it was so different from the other games 2600 had. The only thing was, if you think you were confused . . I was given the game with no box and no instructions. So I just made the guy run around not knowing what was going on.

  • Someone (who will remain annonymus) left a comment on my profile telling me basically what he said to me on this comments page, except being more angry about it. Now he's starting to attack me on my channel, yet I'm not the one constantly arguing with him on this page. Out of all of the people to attack, he has to attack the guy who didn't mean any harm with what he said in his video.

  • But I will remove the channel comments so people don't know who I'm talking about. And if you're reading this (you know who you are), I am not going to tolerate your behavior on this video or my channel. All commenting will have approval on my channel and on this video if you don't stop.

  • XD i am error!

  • Alemme01, I don't see a whole lot of arguing most if not almost all the people commenting on this game agree that it sucks. But you always get that one guy. You know?

  • You're forgetting this is youtube, and that the idiots are the majority, not the ones with common sense.

  • Looks alot better than Superman for Atari 2600 by a long shot

  • I bought this game on ebay, it came in the mail today... so I put in my Atari 7800 and gave it a try.........here's my review.... I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS GAME.... IT'S TERRIBLE... WHENEVER i PRESS THE RED BUTTON I'M IN SOME SORT OF SPACE INVADERS AND WHEN I DON'T PRESS THE BUTTON I'M RUNNING AROUND LIKE SOME MORON... AAAAHHH..WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS GAME?!!?!?!?!.

Ehm...ahem... I was not too pleased with this game, no...

  • Supposedly, there were comics that came with each game when they came out. I found a site posting the comic for the third and last of the four game series. It didn't tell me shit. As far as I can tell the purpose of these games is to piss you off and make you smash it.

  • Idiot.

  • You know, Games have these things called "manuals". If you don't own one, you're not entitled to complain about it.

  • It really does.... I've been into Atari longer than you've been on this planet, I even have friends who worked at Atari. While you're just an annoyed little boring snotnose who comes here acting like Mr. Knowitall, and that just doesn't work very well for you, does it.

  • i used to spend HOURS trying to figure out what the hell i am supposed to do. thanks for posting!

  • I have this game, yeah it sucks!

  • My eyes went bizzar when I saw him going to a room the sound effects :O

  • swordquest isn't an RPG, nor is it unplayable. You're not even complaining about the infamous Fireworld game, which would actually make you credible. Read up on the history of the Swordquest series and you'll know why it was hard.

  • To my biggest fan TheCheezWizz,

Ok let's see, In the same comment you called me an idiot and a troll and I'm the one picking fights. You're lippy and stupid I bet you get beat up a lot.

This is the end of this, so don't make any more stupid comments to or toward me. Further stupidity displayed by you will be seen as just that and will simply be ignored.

  • Yes my nick on here is gettingpissedoff. Because when I created my account youtube was lagging for about four or five hours, not responding and so on. So it was pissing me off so that's the name I decided to use.

  • No I'm not, people like what they like. But you seem to be the only one here who likes the game or even has anything actually good to say about it.

I'm sure most of the people here would say the kindest thing they can say about these games is that they don't own them or don't anymore. Some people liked these games I'm sure but some people liked E.T and that has the highest epic fail rating in game history. If it helps any, I have played shittyer games than these ones. NES had fuckup games too.

  • hey TheCheezWizz do you have a thing with gettingpissed off

  • that's an odd thing to say unless he's yours.

  • Even with a Manual, you needed the Comic book to figure out the clues the game gave you. When I bought mine back in spring '86, it did not come with a comic book, and that was in wrapped retail box!!

  • I WANT IT!!!

  • wow, that did look pretty unplayable

  • no instruction manual! hahaha!!
