The wastegate opened up too soon, unloaded the motor while the nitrous came in. You can hear the detonation. It cracked pistons and hurt the rods. The oil cap is what blew off from the crankcase pressure.

Could have been a million things, but i'm gonna guess that in his failed attempts to spool earlier....he damaged a piston head (stuck injector maybe), and this is the result of it letting go. It's pretty cool when all the oil and PSI shoot the rad cap off though. Luv me some carnage

He blew off the oil cap, because all of the pressure in the cylinders was escaping into the crankcase somehow. Chances are he melted a piston using too much nitrous and fuel trying to spool the turbos.

thisguy put down 1100 ft. lbs. of torque and a little over 900 hp before it blew and the turbo was only half lit. if she had held together it would have been unreal.

That really sucks. But when you start building big numbers and turning high rpms there is always going to be the possibility, after you have put your hard work and money into it, to loose it all at the snap of a finger. Best of luck with the new power plant.

The way it was putting power down before it blew. I would say the motor didn't like all the nitrous it was getting

looks like the boost y or somewhere around their blew apart cause you can see air blowing out before the oil cap blew off.....hope its no fully blown...blew mine once already im on my second one im a little more cautious now

Read the last 3 issues of Diesel Power Magazine and maybe you will get a clue of how the Duramax/GM rates and stands up against the Ford and Dodge.
