dcnats92: ur wrong about the game saturday. when the ref blew the whistle, he thought he heard a timeout. the ass. coach called it, but only the head coach is allowed to call timeouts. when the ref blew the whistle uva's goalie wasnt paying attention when Catalino ripped it. my dad went to school with that ref that blew the whistle. he said thats wut happened. WA-HOO-WA BABY!
angrydog1295 you are exactly right. Maryland was robbed in that game. they were also robbed in the game against VA last saturday. In first OT, Catalino ripped that shot and everyone was still playing. The goalie totally missed it. but the refs called it off cuz of an inadvertent whistle. BS.
no, in the last game, the ref blew a whistle and he thought maryland called a timeout. but apparently the ass. head coach called it and only the head coach can call it. then uva's goalie wasnt paying attention. my dad went to college withthe ref that called it and thats wut he said. WA-HOO-WA
BEN RUBEOR IS THE BEST ATTACK EVER! and he used to come to my school and talked to me and shit about being an attackman it wuz awesome. he's so kool haha
The text in this video is wrong. Travis Reeds game changing goal (wich would have had Maryland winning) was not a crease violation. As his teammate passed him the ball he was pushed in the back as the ball was in the air. Ref called it a loose ball push and Maryland could not convert next go around. It was debated by the commentators quite a bit.
I actually talked to travis reed because he was my camp counselor at the university of maryland lacrosse camp and he said the call was correct because if any player is in the crease, even if they were pushed, the play should be stopped and it should be a dead ball.
yea...i didnt make sense that the Maryland player scored...but called for a crease violation, yet they give the ball back?? I didnt get that. It should have been a goal, or not the terps ball. It cant be no goal and the terps ball. Doesnt make sense...i prob sound confusing....
Charitably, the refs did not call a penalty on the illegal check in the back by the Cav that forced the Maryland player into the crease, and negated the Maryland goal that would have put the Terps up 8-6 in the 4th qtr.
That may be true. However, there are bad calls made in games. Maryland had MANY, MANY opportunities to win this game, and they couldn't get it done. Like I said, they looked tight for much of the game.
No, the refs called a lose ball push on the player you think should have had a penalty, because Maryland then picked up the ball it was a play on, the same maryland person ended up in the crease, immediately stoping the play, resulting in no goal. I'm pretty sure the ref made the right call, Maryland still received possesion in the alley because there was a play on before the maryland guy was in the crease
In this day and age, UVA is, hands-down, the easiest sell for talent. They are, or have: 1. great school 2. yuppy, Ivy League-like atmosphere 3. beautiful campus 4. great college town 5. awesome stadium and athletic facilities 6. beautiful girls 7. away from home for most of the great players 8. A lot of the other lacrosse powerhouses have a sport which is first and foremost on campus: Duke, Georgetown, UNC, Maryland-hoops At UVA, no sport steals thunder from lax team.
Some Maryland fans are unhappy with Cottle. However, they can't fire him right now. Here are the tournament results, starting with his second season at Maryland:
2003-Final Four
2004-Quarterfinals
2005-Final Four
2006-Final Four
2007-First Round
2008-Quarterfinals
So, in seven seasons, Cottle has led the Terps to the Big Dance six times, which is not half-bad. But, the question is this:
Time for a change if no Title Game appearance by the end of 2011?
And, by the way, Navy Stadium is definitely the best place for the Quarterfinals. That is probably a big reason they were there for a second year in-a-row. Did you know that they broke a Quarterfinals attendance record in 2008 with over 17,000 fans showing up? Not only is the stadium awesome, but it is so convenient for many lacrosse fans and Annapolis is an awesome town to hang out in. I wouldn't be surprised if they have it there many more times over the years.
One of the reasons Maryland lost was that they were so tight, especially on offense, for most of the game. And this was even the case when they were ahead. And, after that timeout in OT, they were so tight that they nearly threw the ball three times on their first four or five passes. UVA appeared much more calm down the stretch, and that is a big reason why they were victorious. I talked to a Maryland parent, and she wishes the coaches would give the players more freedom on offense.
UVA doesnt deserve piss they got outplayed my maryland the entire game the only reasons they won were terrible calls, the first bad call was a perfectly good goal and they didnt have a reason for it and spent 5 minutes tlaking aobut it, then in OT a UVA long pole stepped out of bounds when the ref was standing on the ball and he didnt say anything in reality UVA won because of poor reffing
Gotta love some Terps and the song

Find it funny how they huddle in front of the terp kinda like a way to show off without intending it.

Against Syracuse, seems like UVA played for overtime. But the worm turned. Three Cav shots hit pipe. It was not to be. Great effort by the Orange.

Waaaaaah! Waaaaaaah!
If UVA got outplayed, why didn't Maryland have a 2+ goal lead in the 4th? In the real world, the team with the highest score total wins...

well, i was speaking with the UVA alumni and they all said that UMD should have won they were almost disgraced by their own schools prformance
