  • "In the GE 1.5-megawatt model, the nacelle alone weighs more than 56 tons, the blade assembly weighs more than 36 tons, and the tower itself weighs about 71 tons -- a total weight of 164 tons. The corresponding weights for the Vestas V90 are 75, 40, and 152, total 267 tons; and for the Gamesa G87 72, 42, and 220, total 334 tons." I bet if you make a 164 ton Sterling, you will get some attention.. Maybe produce more electric than wind!

  • so when are u gona use this stuff inste of playing with it i have seen u on the net now 4 like over 3 years now and no finished products just experiments if thats all ur gona do kewl but i would see u use some of this stuff and how long it will last under load b\c woth all this stuff u have ctreated i havent seen onething than woulnt be a mantenice nightmare and mantenice has to put in the equation sorry for the spelling im a genuise =3-

  • @xoxoXoieoxox This hard to read..........I know..... I'll dumb myself down and think like a 7 year old..........WOW! Now I can "read" your post! But you are right he should have some full scale green power systems actually providing "real usable power" like 2,000-5,000 watts or so.

  • @kdc43 u know i realy enjoy ur passive agretion there was a reason i got devorced and u do realize u wasted half ur coment to tell me something ive herd all my life the reason i cant spell i b\c im a genuse i have 197 IQ but my brain isnt wired to understand text they call it dislexia so very kindly go fluck ur self =3-

  • thnx morningside, perhaps a sensor and low geared motor to track the sun and adjust for max. focus. i look forward to seeing your 30' dish posted. if individuals could harness sun, wind or water where available, the major power companies would certainly be running for cover!!!

  • Dude if you don't start wearing UV protective eye wear you're gonna be blind before you hit 40.

  • I like this idea

  • i"ve always been fascinated by stirling technology. how long does it run until you have to reposition the unit itself or the lens? what about a larger unit with a bigger flywheel? can it be attached to any kind of automotive alternator or generator? could it produce 6 or 12 volts??? please provide more info and not just show it operating...

  • @sickkat44 I imagine these run until the sun moves out of focal position on the engine. I have seen some of these built onto parabolic dishes which have a sun tracking device built in. if you built a unit large enough and had the proper heat source, I imagine you could run anything you wanted. I am currently working on a 30' parabolic dish I obtained from an old cable company

  • TELL ME HOW THIS WORKS!

  • w cummins engine hahahahaha

  • Good Video....Thanks for uploading it....

  • make it turn an alternator, charge battery banks, many.. they will last a few days depending on how many ya have. run 12 volt lights in the house, car lights are bright eh? 12 volts. hehe..

  • Ok... the right question is this... "What is the fuel?"

  • @dzdice heat and cold :3

  • Nice torque..! Could see that when you "sticked" it lol

    How does that concept work?

  • Very useful for taking charcoal off burnt sticks.

  • JVIELLO Is right....Anything that runs ''Metal To Metal'' Has to have a lubricating system. OK GUYS!...Lets put are heads together...How can we fix this?

  • Thanks guys for the cool videos! Just put a stone wheel on it, It could be used for a grinder. Make a good shade tree machanics grinder. For One! :)

  • please post the information on this engine. This is exactly what i am looking for.

  • Hi, i want to call you please send your telephon number

  • 760 watts=one horsepower.

  • I may not be a total "green science" guy but I am an avid motorsports and engine nut who is looking to build a solid fuel sterling engine to harvest wood energy. What it sounds like to me is you need to lube that bad boy somehow. I sounds like you are seizing up from heat friction, and will eventually destroy the moving parts. Find a way to lube it, even if it's a smear of wheel bearing grease for now, and you should see a nice improvement across the board.

  • Based on physical size and overall appearance it looks like the ones that Dexis used to market A couple of years back... Is it?

Did you ever make a video showing actual metered output? I would be interested to see 100 watts actual

  • So what is causing all that noise. I think there is a design problem. The bottom sides of the pistons appear to be vented to the outdoors. This means that you lose a fraction of the power in shoving air around. You can either make the air work as a spring to the back side of the piston and have it store energy or better yet, you can make a 4 cylinder version where all the compressions on the back sides of the pistons cancel. You should be getting way more than 100W.

  • Put a speaker up and harvest the noise. You'll get an extra ten watts.

  • It may be too noisy for practical applications.

  • no hq

  • i have built many stirlings. there is no way that thing achieves anywhere close to 150w. i would guess maybe 3 or 4 watts of mechanichal power based upon small swept volume and no pressurization and comperably low hot end temp.

  • what is the principle here? i see a sterling engine and a magnifying glass.. could u explain what is going on

  • BEAUTIFULL ENGINE, just put some magnets, coils and get some amps

  • This could have great applications in 3rd world countries. Seems like a very simple design.

  • how i wish i could have one of that please send me a diagram or blue print or the product itself. but show the figure how much it will cost. im from philippines

  • This is the V15 by Andy Ross. If you look at aross345 channel, he links to a free copy of his book "Making Stirling Engines." In this book you will see the engines are named with the number being the swept volume. A 15cc engine at atmospheric pressure will at best do about 15 watts. Using a stick to show power? and your company name is GreenPowerSCIENCE ? I see videos from home shops that show RPM and torque using hand held meters and scales. Lets see you back up your 100 watts this way.

  • It is surely an alpha type engine, but apart form the schematic alpha stirling it has a kind of heat exchanger attached on the hot piston side, can someone tell about what exactly that heat exchanger is really doing? is the air being pushed into the exchanger before going to the regenerator and to the displacer piston or is it just a thermal mass collecting heat and transfering through conduction, in that case this would be an exact practical version of an alpha stirling.

  • Can't wait to see the 8 cylinder.

  • So why couldn't you thread a pulley off one end of the shaft and connect it to a wind turbine generator. If your getting 7 pounds of torque I bet you could even gear it to get a faster ratio. Some of the newer small home use wind generators are getting 1600 Watts at peak.

  • @emtfd1 good question. would that work?

  • How you stop THIS :)

  • I think I can see where this can go; make an automated device that adjusts the lens according to the position of the sun

  • hook it up to a dynamo and lets see if it makes any useable energy.

  • Maybe use a Solar Vacuum Tube?..for those of us who live in Washington State?? Set it up so the Vacuum Tubes make hot water and also power this to generate electricity?

  • Comment removed

  • Is there any combination of using solar generated sterling engine AND alternately wind power generation to generate usable home electricity. Usually in my area when the wind blows it is cloudy, when not it is sunny (duh) and so the Sterling might be able to turn the generator used for the wind under some circumstances.

  • were did you but that engine?

  • ah, fully mechanical solar power without expensive solar panels... interesting idea :)

but how much does it cost to make one vs the price of 100w of solar?

  • @TahreyUK 100 watt PV is 1/4 the overall price and no moving parts.

  • ware did you buy the motor i want one too!!!!!!!!!!!! please reply thank you

  • @JazzPirateAL I looked on the greenpower science site but didnt see it!!

  • @TahreyUK 100w of solar is $300 + grid tie inverter GTI ($250 for 240 watts; and the gird tie inverters are combinable self synchronizing to hz, voltage and phase, so all you have to do is plug the GTI into any outlet and it auto feeds the power from 12v solar or 12v windmill or sterling 12v gen to your grid,... it will reduce your bill immediately , but can turn your meter backwards if you have enough wattage or go on holiday. like to know cost 1 to 5 hp sterling engine??

  • @TahreyUK oh yes with the GTI , you don't need those damn expensive batteries , you are using the grid (elect co ) as your battery, your bill will be lower or perhaps they may owe you on occasion.

  • I always like your videos, even the ones that don't work out. However, this demonstration was pretty convincing. Thanks!

  • Pie in sky and/or pipe dream and engineering madhouse, but thermally linking the cold side cylinder to a heat sink, like a water pool, would increase the efficiency of the heat engine. The water pool could the serve as the heat source for a heat pump. Get a bonus use of the heat, and a cooling effect for the heat sink. Opportunity to show a thermal syphon? Not at all practical for this scale except for demonstrations, but efficiencies for multiple cylinder engines might increase.

  • Good night, Dan, this engine is for sale? Where can I buy?

  • For a survival idea, you can set this up for use as Fire Place & Solar Engine to spin and operate a Crank Shaft Electric generator. So in day time you can use the sun and in rainy or nights you can use the fire to generate electricity for you log cabin or in a emergency time. Wish some one could built such things and sell them to power your home.

  • @YouTheory that would be highly unlikely, for ac current it would have to run at exactly 3500 (or something like that) rpms, which would be near impossible to keep steady. not to mention that im pretty sure that a stirling could not put out enough torque to turn a generator under load. have you ever seen/heard a small gas generator when you turn on the device plugged in? it bogs right down, then picks up, but not nearly as high rpm as it ran without any load on the generator. just speculating...

  • You can use Silver plated conductors for best heat transfer and using more dishes to focus on the conductor would give more power.

  • Hi Dan, this is very impressive, are the engines available to purchase? Can you talk us through how it works a little, it looks very tidy and simple, i live in a cabin in the mountains in the French Alps (without grid power), at the moment we have wood and solar electric, we also have gas bottles for cooking. I am coming to California between the 12'th oct and 12dec would be cool to meet up, perhaps you would like some help with some filming or some projects?

    James

  • Wow, this Stirling has a very high rpm. Sounds like several thousand rpm.

Speaking of sound: why in the hell is it making so much noise? is the piston slamming against the head?

It looks like a Beta Stirling, but I can only assume.

Why not drive a tool or generator to make it useful?

By the way: Your title is wrong. This is a Stirling Engine, not a Stirling steam engine. There's no water needed, thus no steam. The title makes it appear you're not knowledgeable about Stirling engines.

  • A solar tracking device and a Presto Wind(TM) Model M-24 Dual Output Design Part 3 would pump out a lot of juice.

  • That engine looks wonderful, where did you get it Dan, I would want to buy it.

  • i think ideas like these are the future.. and the death of the elites global grip on mankind

thanks to the net.. ideas merge alot faster creating a simple way of doing things that seemed impossible to think up before the mass mind..

only thing they can do is shut down the internet..or censor it to next to nothing..

but by then im sure man will have thought up a way to network the planet with out the internet as we know it .... for free...

  • Ok, so, its all good if its green, but you dont mention where that particular motor comes from, how it is designed, if its for purchase,.. Are you dead? Are you trying to cash in on it? I mean whats the word Mate? All these comments asking about THIS particular one, and you got nada for answers? I wouldnt mess with the one on your webpage, but this one I will drop money for, so, where is it? Or whats the story?

  • @SeeTheWholeTruth true, I dunno, but just from researching around I can say that this is very promising technology. External combustion (especially without phase change, as seen here) is very fuel-flexible, and at least slightly more thermally efficient than any form of internal combustion. Ideally, at least.

  • Would it have worked better if he for example placed a canister of liquid nitrogen on the cooling part? Just a random question

  • hints to free engery , 1 runtime must be greater than charge time 2 u need at least 2 power sources the main needs to be 1000 amphrs

  • @kiithsjet And the huge parabolic mirror isn't?

  • @kiithsjet True, of course the actual power generated would be less than the theoretical electrical power output due to kinetic friction and additional heat loss due to current flow. However, the system has greater electrical power output density than typical photovoltaic systems.

  • @railrdr523 Physics? Power a generator. Work can be converted directly into electricity relatively efficiently minus the loss due to friction of parts and heat loss due to the current, genius.

  • Watts means nothing without voltage.... Unicorn farts are probably 100 watts too lol.

  • @kyle92223 LOL! the unicorn thing was fu*%ing amazing! You're wrong about the voltage though, watt is just a unit of power measurement (W=1joule/sec), nothing to do with voltage. It's just a widespread unit in measuring power for electricity

  • Since you are called GREENPOWERSCIENCE, measure the output and tell us how many watts its producing, and stop guessing

and BTW this Stirling engine is one of the few on youtube that looks like it could do useful work, who makes it and how much doesit cost?

  • your engine is hard to start because to cool side gets hot to increase the temperature difference cool the cool side not heat the hot side

  • until you hook up an electric motor to that flywheel and power a 100watt light bulb (constant on) I call bullshit.

  • You got a very beautiful and busty wife. You are lucky man. woohaa...

  • When do you make electricity.

  • wonder how much methanphetamines it took to produce this video.

  • That's a very good idea to build a solar power generator.

  • Does anyone make and sell any stirling engines over 2hp anywhere?

  • i was waiting for his hair to start smoking when he got into the light lol

  • thanks Dan. Much appreciated

  • ___ w w w diymagneticmotor com ___ FREE energy Guide___

  • its going tobe a new world go for it m8

  • how much run time can you get out of one of these?

  • Ok Dan. Where can I get one? Quit teasing us!!!!

  • Where can I get engines like this

  • parabolic mirror...

  • magnets... and battery.... hmm....

  • Interesting but would be better with a measured power off-take. That fresnell lens is certainly interesting. 'Tis a shame you can't ship one to me internationally.

Efficiency should be helped by insulating the back of the heat collector and possibly getting a better matt black finish, It is looking possibly more expensive per Watt than a cheap solar panel for electricity alone, but heat recovery (if useful) would really add value. Much more fun than a PV panel, but much higher maintenance.

  • I'd attach small DC motor using belt or roller to that flywheel, you'd get electric starter and then it'd recharge that batterry. 100W electric scooter engine could be enough for this.

Do you have any videos showing it doind some real work like powering a generator, pumping water? It seems that it's not balanced, it's shaking and making that rather unpleasant noise...

Can you share some extra info about that engine? Pressure, displacement of bot cylinders Vs total displacement etc?

  • what is the temperature of the head at its peak rpm please?

  • Hey what is that gasoline tank behind you, just joking. Please state the model and place where you bought this. When are you going to hook up an generator? I would first try a car alternator.

  • Notice he's using a Fresnel lens (which are awesome). The power of the sun's rays hitting earth tops out around 1000 Watts/(sq. meter). The lens looks to be about a square meter. Which means he's getting about 10% efficiency out of the sterling engine. Not bad, but increasing that would make it more viable for actual energy production.

  • sir do you sell stirling engine???

  • @kiithsjet That is very true.

  • wspaniałą maszyna ale z czego jest zrobione zwierciadło ??

  • id like some plans, diagrams, how to make this thing. scale it up so it can power my house

  • Can you list a link for the company that made this engine?

  • hook that thing up to a gen set or a couple alternators from a car and charge batteries with that bad boy!!!! free power!

  • also, you imply that you bought it... any thoughts of letting us in on where you bought it from so some of us can experiment with such an intriguing motor?

  • okay dan, it's been over a year now. is there some reason why you haven't updated this and said that you were wrong about possible power it could produce? or showed us that you were right? c'mon man, keep us in the loop.

  • Cool, but, where is the 100 watts that you say that motor can generate?

  • @gabriel4cv Nobody said it can generate 100w,that is its power rate,it could drive an alternator to output that but due to losses on an 100w motor the output will be less than 75%.

  • Put a Generator on that thing PLEASE

  • That would be nice in an electric push bike to charge the batteries while you ride. Of course you can't use solar whilst riding but you can use ANYTHING that burns such as wood, biodiesel etc.

  • veryyy coool videooo.....keep it up

  • exelent my friend, I search greenpower in my home, do you help me whith it???

    thanks mister

  • Please can you tell me where you got this model from I want to buy it? Thanks

  • How are you cooling the cold side of the engine?

  • CAN YOU BUY ONE OF THESE , AND ARE YOU READY FOR AND MIND BLOWING NEW CONCEPT ON PREPETAUL MOTION, AND MEGNETS TOO PUMP WATER AT THAT SORT OF THRUST RATIO ,, PLEASE SEND MESSAGE PLEASE MR.BONES ,,, FOR ALL NEW HELP FOR AN NEW ENGINE DESIGN , I REALLY NEED THIS PART FOR THE STARTER FOR THE WHOLE ENGINE DESIGN

  • @Mr420wholesalers

You should really get that caps lock key fixed.

  • Sunlight isn't the only source of heat. Stick that mother fucker in a volcano or a hydrothermal vent. Hells yeah.

  • im a machinist working on some stuff.hopefully this engine if you tell me where to get plans

  • It would get a lot more power if he chilled the cool side with ice or water.

  • @microbrain1 wouldnt stay ice for long...

  • @microbrain1 or even had a heatsink on it.

  • @microbrain1 or use part of the engine power to drive a fan anto cooling fins

  • @microbrain1 yeah, when ice is available on the ground for free in winter, be great to see that working too.

  • u go out every morning when sun is up and spin start ur motors, or else no charge to da batries!!!!!!!

  • when i see this shit doing a job of Caterpillar Genset D399 i will believe it. rsrsrrsrrs

  • @thiando when i see a cat genset run for free ill believe this is useless

  • You should try replacing the fly wheal with a grinding wheal and grind some steel on it.

  • Dan, that is one of the coolest things I've seen in ages, keep up the good work, inspired me to get onto making something.

  • WATCH IN HD! (highest option 480p)

  • the drawback of stirling...the sun goes in. storage of heat is salt works. add a load, turn an alternator or generator, or an air compressor, see if you can actually add 100 watts of load.

  • What is good about this technology it is not solely dependent on the sun or the rain. There is a endless amount of other fuel sources that will boil water, for night time or sun less days. And when the grid is maxed out with AC users this technology will take a load off the grid. And if you are living off the grid, burn some wood.

  • where to buy this stirling engine type alpha ? please

    BEST REGARDS

  • you would get more effiency out of a steam engine, use the lens on tank of water and stainless steel, wool in the tank to produce stream to run the steam engine turning a heavy duty electric generator.

  • What would prevent someone from reverse engineering that thing and simply scaling up?

  • @TheRipcity22

Nothing, other than time and money. My dad told me there were examples of old locomotives that'd been converted into stirling engines, but torque and getting them started was always a problem.

  • It is not a false myth. Had that been a internal combustion engine, that stick would have been snatched from your hand.

There are advantages to Stirling engines, but torque is not one of them. Anyways have fun with it. If they were practical I would think they would still use them. They are among the oldest engine technologies.

  • Dan,

When can we see the plans for this engine as well as a demo of it with an actual load? GREAT WORK!

  • I need that engine!!

Where can I get the design for it?

  • why not try and compare the real world power output of this with an equivalent in size solar panel?

  • Use you r fingers, not a stick DUH!

  • where did you get this stirling engine?

  • That would be cool, in a car if it was hooked up to the generator, batteries ands a high RPM motor. Free fuel! :D

  • Watch in High Quality what High Quility??

    480p is not High Quality

  • were did you get that stirling engine from?

  • would this engine perform as well if you welded a steel extension to it and stuck the extension in a camp fire?

  • @thx1966 it will work even better

  • That's way more than 100 watts!

A whipper snipper is more than 100 Watts!

    Way more!

And model aircraft engines are way more than 100 watts.

    This engine is really cool!

I'd love to see it driving a 10-15Ahr alternator, hooked up to a 100 Watt spot light.

I'd think we would be surprised.

  • holy crap man. get power from it? what are you doing?

  • Where can I purchase one? Thx Jeff

  • It would be far more convincing if you let your engine drive a generator and let it produce electric power that can be measured, instead of poking it with a stick

  • @VaccinesKillBabies This would be a good idea in power plants but not for cars. With the stirling style engine the best power you can get is the biggest temperature gradient that you can give the engine. So in reality I highly doubt that you could make a stirling engine powerful enough to move big cargo like semi's do. So I guess you could for some cars but for the rest of us that like to go fast with fossils than there would be no point.

  • @gbonesrider yeah but you could add it to existing engines and use the waste heat and the air movement to cool the cold side. Biggest problem with internal combustion engines is energy lost in heat.

  • @cableairman very true but then again you are adding more weight. But hey these things can be used in hundreds of applications and its free basically.

  • Where did you buy this stirling engine from and how much it cost?

  • Yes Dan. "That thing is powerful as shit!" :P I'm eager to hear about the design it validated.

  • do you have specs for it?

  • Q; Did you paint the tip black so that it will collect more heat at the focal point?

(I'm asking because its not easy to see the spot colour in the video)

  • Do you have any vids that show what this engine can do besides spinning very fast for 8 minute? What kind of electrical goods that work by this ? Seriously, all I've seen is that many of this machines spin very fast trough out youtube. pls let me know, thanks

  • @nanachart Take a look at GreenPowerScience's "AC generator" videos and you might get some idea... Basically if you put magnets on the spinning wheel and surround that with coils of copper wire you'd get a very high voltage along the coils of copper.

  • this engine + generator + light bulbs + magnifying glasses = free energy?

  • @leeknivek

    troll phisics ftw :D

  • That thing has almost no torque. What are you making that statement based on? Maybe if you are comparing it to a toy top.

What use are you putting this to? Does it require enough heat to melt glass to make it run that fast?

  • Would water cooling make it even more powerful?

  • Wow, you look and sound like a huge douche.

    Other than that, nice engine.

  • Tell us where we can get the engine!

  • Questions...

Would it operate a modern car alternator?

How are the bearings lubricated for extended use without failure?

Apparent drawback seems to be that you have to hand start it.

Could you operate it from pure hot water circulated via a solar pump from atop and motorhome for example where pipes circulating the water under glass to create the hot water?

  • It's good for a water pump in hot and sunny countries and i believe a company is making such a pump but i've lot track of it. It works on a trailer and has a 2m diameter parabolic dish. Anyone has come across it ?
