  • At a distance you can mistake them for dolphins...

  • elephant fish is a kind of dolphin just like freshwater shark

  • wow they look like miniature dolphins

  • @rpgshinok Agreed

  • Ich dachte immer die elefantenfische könnte man nur einzeln halten

    Schönes Video ;D

  • Wow! How nice is that tank?! Elephant nose go really well with ghost knife fish. They both use electrical impulses. Ghost knife swim backwards as well! Amazing fish!

  • 1 thing for you guys if you get a elaphant nose fish be carefull because i bought 1 and it jumped out the back of the tank!!! unfortanatly i found it under the cabenet 2 days later. board the back of the tank up because they are bouned to find some way out just like crabs do! I am waiting for the pet shop ( pets at home ) to ring me and say that they have go new ones in. have any of you had the same problem as me?

  • @georgeandisaac No but i'm thinking of getting one. And because of your comment if i get one i'll make sure to cover any gaps up. Cheers.

  • Nice aquarium, i just wish your water was a little more clear...but other than that its great

  • @MrLOLURDEAD

Well, it's none of my personal tank, it's of a zoo near my hometown... and i filmed it right after the feeding time. But thanks for you comment! :D

  • @MrLOLURDEAD The discoloration is likely due to tannins which are naturally occurring in their native habitat and is beneficial to add to their aquarium.

  • The tank dosen't seem to be very well filtered.

  • You can see those particles in the water because they feed it about 10minutes before i took the video. They feed them some kind of shrimp, water flea and cyclops.

  • Doh, that was stupid of me.

  • Absolutely not! You couldn't know it. And maybe it isn't well filtered, i didn't see it off the feedingtime.

  • Yay! I'm is geniuus!

  • Who here agrees that the elephantnoses would look better without their trunk

  • That's like saying: "Elephants would look better wihout their trunk." ^^

I think, their strange look is the cool thing about them. The more exceptional the better.

  • I hate the way you make agree with your logical and rational awswers all the time!

Yes, for that matter, I have been converted by you. They do look better with those trunks.

  • thx^^

  • @blownable pointless comments looking for apporval

  • In all fariness, I was 12 at the time, now 15. You won't find me craving for attention any more.

  • Hello,

Can you please give me some more information on Gnathonemus petersii (ELEPHANT NOSE FISH) I'm setting up a 55 gallon show aquarium for public display and I want to have it planted like you have it there! I want to know what species of south american fish are compatable with the semi-agressive yet docile nature of Gnathonemus petersii??

    Please help out!

    ~ Orly

  • Hi,

sry i'm no expert in those fish. This isn't my tank, it's out of a zoo aquarium near my hometown.

    The only things i know:

-They grow up to 30cm (12inch).

    - They have a very big brain and are very smart and very social among themselves.

  • Awesome setup! I wish my tank looked like that

  • I always use videos to get new ideas, what i can change in my tank. Maybe try to recreate it in your tank.

  • Its a very beautiful planted tank.

It must have big canister filter.

I have a hang on filter system for a 90 gal.

  • Hi, yes it is. And yes, it must have a very good filtration.

Hang on filter systems are very uncommon over here. Mostly used are canister filter for big tanks and internal filters for small ones.

  • Amazing! That tank is an inspiration! Don't see much Mormyridae tanks sadly.

  • Yes, it really is.

  • These are the latest fish craze at the moment near where I live. Every LFS near me sells these as well as ghost knife fish.

They are nice fish but I doubt most of the ones sold in LFS's will go to appropriate homes...

  • Yes, they look so cool, and people forget to think about a proper tank and food. They just buy them... That's often their death warrant.

  • The very beautiful and hard to keep elephant nose fish. Many petshops or aquatic stores wont have them for sale.

  • That's true. I see them only every once in a while for sale.

  • In a way, they kinda look like very small dolphins

  • I had exactly the same impression when i first saw the fish in that tank.

  • hi, de que tipo de agua son ? sorry, i don´t know write in english !!!

  • Son de aqua tropical y de la conga de Africa.

  • Thanks for helping me out, i'm not Spanish-speaking.

  • Sorry I thought I had send it to that person or persons.

  • elephant nose are awesome fish i was so intrested in them when i watched national geographic that i went to my local fish store and staired at them for about 30 mins

  • They are very unique fish.
