  • superb

  • Enjoyed this so much. I think the guy who uploaded it is bang on with his intro. Cheers !

  • Where can I get this DVD?... Where does this come frome?

  • I love the head "wtf" head shake at 1:15

  • does exist any studio version of this song?

  • @ferskate228 Ive wondered that myself for a while. I'm thinking there might be one.. but it might be only available in Japan. There's alot of recordings that guys over there do and theyre never released in America.

  • wow so many different rhythmic directions this goes in, awesome

  • Patitucci is such a babe.

  • Picasso copied many artist to start but then he developed a style of his own...you have to start somewhere

  • Well,.. If you want to be a great musician, you shouldn't copy things,.. Your right,.. practise ist nearly everything, but I think everyone should find his own style and maybe than,.. You could be a great musician,.. :D

  • If you ever want to b a great musician, copy what these guys are doing!

They practice, and then they practice some more, and then, when they've done all of that, they practice even more!

Great example of masters at their craft!

  • Chick Corea is also a great composer..this trio is fantastic

  • 114 likes, 0 dislikes; that tells it all.

  • John P bugged me in the beginning but he has certainly gone deeper. This is a good combo.

  • Well after winning the central division championship that year and then defeating the Erskine/Taylor/Daniellson team in the Grand Final, they were indeed the Pinnacle of Jazz ... but some contracts ran out before '93 and it was all over. The newer lineups could nev ...

    Sounds kinda silly, don't it?

Put some music on the speakers and listen and try to enjoy. It's not a competition.

  • ok im sorry this is kinda random but what nationality is chick corea like he looks kinda jewish or something but in earlier years he looked more hispanic like his name seems to suggest i cant figure it out is he just white-european? someone help me on this its been bugging me for a while

  • @sparkinup33

Vinnie, and John are of Italian descent. Chick is also Italian....and Spanish.

  • @stretch54 he was born in Mass.. Supposedly he's part sicilian, part spanish. Chick is so great, if you werent able to reckognize his playing as "Chick", at any given time, you might be convinced hes African-American, South American, Spanish, hes got such a thorough range of developed voice

  • @sparkinup33 Have you noticed how many jazz artists in America are of Italian, Jewish or African descent? I didn't mention Latin only because they tend to stick to their styles of music, which at times is so good to influences jazz like Cuban or Brazilian music.

  • se percibe su ascendencia aunque nadie lo hubiese hecho público...maravilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great music in a great country :D japan ftw and jazz

  • is there any way possible to get another copy of this? This is Art...

  • @bpnoman No argument.

They are as smooth and angular and in and out seamlessly as anyone before or now. The interactive invention and particularly 'atunededness' to each other is far above most all. I have jammed with John, on double upright basses for a few minutes and he is just great in any setting. And a really nice and non-aggressive person/player, no matter your level.

  • incredible

  • Wow ,Vinnie was the first guy who wore Ed Hardy shirts....

  • i think that's a Pullman Bass that Johns playing.

  • vinnie or dave?

  • i would like to understand what they are playin because I just think it is beautiful.

  • Armando Chick Corea was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

He is of Sicilian and Spanish descent.

Vinnie or Vincenzo like we guys liked to called him in LA,

the mother is from a region called " Molise " Italy,

the mother makes great pasta home made.

Patitucci is of Italian descent and born in Brooklyn, New York

    ENJOY !

  • they are like children whose play together

  • Patitucci's face at 0:54 says it all.

  • That huge smile Pattituci shoots at Vinnie at 5:44 after vinnie does the 4/4 swing thing..

That's what music is all about

  • exactly my man

  • exactly! that rocks!

  • At 0.48, it looks like chicks hand is having a lot of tension of making that trill

  • @magicmrmadman

It is SOME tension. Deliberately tension. It's some kind of Monk influence. You must exert some efforts to express your ambitions. I think you agree that Chick have enough of technic possibilities to play trill lightly. :)

  • I FOUND IT! I've watched probably 200 Colaiuta videos in the last week, and this is my favorite so far... by quite a bit. Nice playing by all three.

  • makes you go quiet for a while... doesn it?

  • i can't get enough of these guys. anyone got sauce?

  • The "sequence" at 0:18-25 reminds me heavily of a spot in Franz Liszt's Transcendental Etude no.11:

    watch?v=GSb0nhXrhbQ

    4:33-42

    6:10-15

Un/conscious influece, or maybe coincidence, but kind of interesting.

  • I'd love to find someone who can honestly, intellectually argue that this trio isn't the pinnacle of jazz masters at their best...

  • They are great but..I'd have to argue Herbie, Ron and Tony would take the title of "jazz masters at their best". I think Chick would agree with that as well. Then there's keith's trio, Philly Joe, Red Garland and PC. Just my opinion.

  • Well herbie, tony and ron came before them but these cats are just as good in their way.

  • Good point. There is no "better". If anything a better way to look at it is that we are so lucky to have so many amazing trios that have come before and that emerge everyday. A Jazz trio is wonderful format and Chick, Pattituci and Vinnie are amazing at it in their own distinct way.

  • @Vazmusic

    BEST??

I'm understand that it's your opinion and you have a right for this, but... how can you say so? how can you compare? who are you? Herbie, Chick, Keith and others make unbelievable music, absolutely unexplained and inimitable. They all play DIFFERENT music! Peerless music! Try just listen and enjoy! You can't enjoy listening if you always think "this one better, no, this one". And Chick not was able to play thoughts like this. So Chick not agree with you, and Herbie too!

  • @mihmus This is a great trio.... actually an AMAZING trio but this thread started when someone said they were the best. A ridiculous premise but if we are gonna call anyone the best, i don't think it's these 3. For 1 thing as great a drummer as Vinnie is his drums are not tuned in a traditional jazz fashion and he's not coming from a bop place stylistically. I still dig it but...If we are talking jazz people like Keith & Herbie are coming from more of a bop place. it's all great tho'.

  • @Vazmusic

ok... I understand. Someone say "They are best" and you think "Hm, best? No! Chick is not exactly bop, Vinnie too... No! Jarrett - he is bop so he is best!".

I can say and I always say "They are best!" when see Chick's trio's. And I say "Herbie are the best!" when I see him live. And I can say that Sting are best! They all are musical hi-end! It don't need to over-persuade, it just impression!

  • @Vazmusic

Why you use this labels, separate music, limit musicians by styles?

It's all no need! And no need to compare, as I said.

Chick Corea are not bop, not fusion or jazz rock, latin, etc. Because he is CHICK COREA! He is his music! ALL his music in one person! So he can't be BEST because he is UNIQUE!

And same about Hancock, Jarrett and others...

Imagine that they read what you said! They make beautiful music and we talking about which one better. This incomprehension of essence.

  • @mihmus

U did not look carefully at what I said. I love Chick and his playing but somebody stated that it was "the pinnacle of jazz at it's best". I am just disagreeing. It's great music it's just nowhere near being a pinnacle for me. It's just my opinion & I'm entitled. I don't think anything is the pinnacle of anything but for me Herbie and Keith do it for me in terms of playing pure jazz. I LOVE Chick's playing. I'm a major fan. I'm not saying this is not great music.

  • @Vazmusic

bop... you see Thumba Island from this concert? why we speak about bop??

hm... maybe Keith Jarrett could play Thumba Island better? hehehe)) sorry, I'm kidding.

But you must agree - Thumba Island is an unbelievable tune! I never hear something like this from another jazz trios.

  • @mihmus

I'll try this for the last time. Someone stated that they were the "pinnacle of jazz". I don't agree. U cannot discuss jazz without adding bop to the discussion. I'm done.

  • @Vazmusic

I'm don't want to discuss about jazz without adding bop to the discussion this time. But it was another context - it was compareing different musicians from standpoint of a bop. i.e. "adding bop" and "only bop" are different things.

Sorry for my persistence. I'm go to see your videos! ;)

  • @bpnoman ...I can. As much as i love pat, there are a few better bass players...vic wooten for one. And Weckl's style with these two is more preferable. But that could be also due to the amount of time played together being representative of comfort/anticipations all around etc. But sure, three of the top tenth or one percent in the world. Hard to piece together a better comp.

  • @opalcandy vic wooten plays upright?

and, though DW and CC is a definitiv match, CC-energy fits also very well with VC-energy

  • @opalcandy

Say to Victor Wooten that he is better than John Pattitucci. He don't answer you and even could take offence. :)

If you don't hear that John and Victor play absolutely different I can't understand how can you discuss about jazz trios.

  • @bpnoman

You don't have a right to compare these musicians!

For more information read reply to Vazmusic comments.

  • @bpnoman They are all top flight musicians. Corea to me, is as inspirational as Bill Evans. Vinnie is like Weckle, or Cobham... just over the top. Patitucci is one of my all time favs. What a great combo. What a great history.

  • You have 3 gods playing together. It doesnt get any better than this.

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ahora es mas claro porqe todon ablan espanol...

  • the drummer is mexican , sorry, no lo savia.

  • Vinnie Colaiuta is not Mexican, are you just kidding? he's Italian American....none of them is mexican

  • Actually, all three guys are Italian. Chick is Italian and Spanish.

  • It´s not true.

  • the drummer is not mexican

    vinnie es d italia

  • quienes hablan en español? de q hablas?

  • nice...

  • Aahh!

  • Why haven't I seen this video before???

This is a treasure of inspiration for me!
