Nobody cares what you look like in front of your computer..

    Let it all hang-out!!!

  • my moms fav song... her name is bernadette!!!! go mommy ur awesome

  • what asshole would dare to thumbs down this song?

  • @halopigg the 12 people who disliked this song are straight up idiots...never mind them.

  • Who played Bass? Carol Kaye or James Jamerson? Where's the proof? Confusing about this.

  • @lungimsam

James Jamerson. No question about it. P Bass with fingers. The incomparable Jamerson style.

  • @jburtonca Motown had the best band ever... shouldn't have moved to LA. Everybody got the big heads after moving amongst the stars. Miss you sooo much sweet true R/B and Soul Music.

  • @jburtonca According to Carol Kaye, she did. You should check her web site, listen to the clip yourself and decide. I couldn't btw. You probably have better ears than I do. What do I know, I'm just a drummer (LOL).

  • @lungimsam get the DVD "Standing In The Shadows of Motown"..the story of the Funk Brothers...a great film and story...5 stars

  • Old School- a forever song --- GREAT!!!!!

  • "The hook"

  • LOVE THIS!

  • One of the best from one of the best. This song carries a truckload of wonderul memories for me. Ahh, our sweet youth; it is but a fleeting thing. The memories; however, will never fade. To all the sweet, young boys that passed through my life at this time - I remember every one of you. I hope life has been good to you as it has me - so many blessings I have. Sincerely - Gayle 31 Jan 2012

  • JAMES JAMERSON BASS LINE FTW

  • @meathdetal FTFW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was watching videos about stupid hippies and I ended up here o.o

  • @RoflBeer you should be so lucky to be as smart as a " stupid hippie"...bet you just don't have a fucking clue.

  • Ok, so from 1:46 to 2:02 there are 2 same chord progressions, sounds with a flute in it. This chord progression especially with the flute sounds very familiar. I feel like it is in another 60's song. If someone can tell me this song, that would be awesome.

  • @TheUltimatePike Listen to Tears Of A Clown by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles..I hear the same familiar flute chords..hard to tell with Motown..so many of the groups used the same studio band (the Funk Brothers) and being guided by Berry Gordy..a lot of the music sounded alike . Read more on Wiki/Motown.

  • BERNADETTE DETEKTIERT

  • 12 people don't have a fuckin' clue.....

  • @clyde8her co-sign

  • A visit from the goon squad.

  • Yeah it is a bit in the back ground , i agree it was a great performance

  • Today's music just lacks the raw emotion and soul that Motown classics possess.

  • Damn, that classic Motown sound... no one can match this kind of music today...

  • Oh yeah! kat

  • Awesome!!!!

    Berrrnaadetteee!!!!!

  • Yeah, i'm sixteen and listen to rap. Doesn't mean I can't like classics like this

  • This is a record of total, undiluted quality. And to Ashaman, growing up in Stoke on Trent in the 60's/70's was also good (although possibly not as eventful).

  • He was such a great singer that they named blue jeans after him. I have on my favorite pair of Stubbs.

  • @ novagon- Is CKLW still in existance? I remember listening to that station in the 70's. I grew up in southwestern Ohio and could get it on the radio in my '66 Chevelle. Those were the days :) One helluva frequency skip!

  • I got a hand-release from a girl named Bernadette once

  • @peterklevine FUNNY LMAO

  • We're sorry, but we prefer Howard Wolowitz's version.

  • Levi was a tremendous performer and excellent singer and interpretor of tunes

  • i allways thought that they sang "burn to death"

  • Thumbs up, if The Big Bang Theory brought you here! :)

  • @KuuSiTo so I'm supposed to thumb down if I came here by a movie called Zodiac? ;)

  • @KuuSiTo Dude. strangest coincidence. The Big Bang theory did not bring me here, however, the song I listened to before this was "the Big bang theory" by the barenaked ladies. And yours is the top comment.

  • Damn, this song brings back memories....growing up in Brooklyn in the 60's early 70's. Life was good. Hard but good.

  • my name is bernice.. and i hate it. i adore the four tops.. i really wanna change it to bernadette ha

  • Mmm James Jamerson

  • @mikebithell It's a shame you can't really hear him in this mix. One of his greatest perfomances. And that's saying something!

  • the best

  • I heard Levi Stubbs in an interview saying he was aware he wasn't a great singer. Well, in the classic sense, maybe not but he sure could tell a story through song...

  • I heard this song for the first time on CKLW out of Windsor Ontario probably the day it was released. The passion with which it is sung moved me as a 9 year old. It impresses me to this day.

  • This song is 1 year older than me, I love it and have done so since listening to it on Sunday morning radio with my mum.

  • RIP George Rountree, Musical Director of the Four Tops, (May 13, 1950-Nov. 1, 2011) After working for more than 30 years as the musical leader for the Four Tops, George Rountree Jr. died Sunday at a Las Vegas hospital. He was 61.

  • Just listenin' to Levi's sheer passion in this sends a shiver down my spine, couple that to James Jamerson's stonkin' bassline - a winner every time . If your name is Benadette you are one lucky lady . Keep the faith brothers & sisters.

  • TWO GREATS IN ONE ,THE FOUR TOPS AND THE FUNK BROTHERS ,, LOVE JAMES JAMERSON'S BASS

  • The first notes of this song always gives me chills ALL long my spine..this is TOP soul and a composition worthy to rival with my Bach tunes...the comparison may seem odd, people, but I MEAN it!!

  • great song james jamerson was cooking in the bass , note a slighht arabic influence

  • I came here because this song is stuck in my head after watching the movie "Madhouse" at age 7.

  • The best.

  • When I was going to college at the University of Arkansas in 1973, I put this song o whenever I saw a girl I knew named Bernadette. She was about 5 foot tall and had these huge country girl tits. She went on to marry a guy named Bernie!! He was about 5'2" They made a cute couple. Bernie and Bernadette. I wonder if they are still together?

  • I love lip singing and acting like I'm on stage in the '70s getting down. I guess that's what a classic song does to you.

  • Black Eternal Realm Nobody's Aware Don't Eliminate The True Elements.

  • This is what it's about! don't mater what type of music you like or love,Good music alway's going be good music!

  • im 24 and really like alot of oldies music! its better then any of todays garbage. you know what i notice, in the mid to late 60's there was such a wide variety of great music, from this kind of jazz style stuff to jimi hedrix heavy riffs to the beatles pshycdelic weirdness to the pop bands like the kinks and such. there was defiently a variety of greeat popular music wheras today its nothing but rap rap rap, stupid sounding rock "screamo" (more like noise pollution), girls who cant sing etc

  • @burtonrules123 Enter: The Discovery of LSD. And human consciousness recognizing war and power is not what we as humans really want or need.

  • @Brambleiah so, thats why music sucks nowadays? i dont get your comment.

  • @burtonrules123 Oh I just mean, it was a blast of consciousness.. A time for revolution when young people wanted the status quo changed. And they were going to do it. LSD/other drugs/& FREEDOM helped them expand their minds and ideas when it came to music and other creative endeavors. Most humans / Americans nowadays seem to be nothing but lazy slug slaves.

  • i looooooove this song

  • But while I live only to hold you...

Other men they long to control you...

But how can they control you Bernadette?

When they cannot control themselves Bernadette...

THAT is as good as anything Dylan, Van or Lennon and McCartney ever penned. Read and learn.

    Worf

  • @TheWorfster Thanks for noticing the poetry and subconscious forward thinking in these lyrics...I think people got so caught up in the groove the the Holland/Dozier/Holland songs that they forgot to notice how forward they were lyrically. They are thought provoking, even in the context of romantic, pseudo-love songs!!!

Thanks again for pointing that lyric line out!!!!

  • This song sticks in your Mind long after it's played Levi's Stubbs vocals off the chain the Bass drive is unbelievable a pure Classic ya dig......Tha R&Beast........

  • 17 yrs old and love this song my parents grew up with.
