i've been listening to this guy since 2007,he's a fucking musical genius, and he sounds good as hell too,i dont care what kind of music you listen to,i have his cd"i sincerely apologize"great fuckin use of $20.00
Yes you are right, the miserable fuck IS himself, and it is intended that way...as it is a song about trying to lift himself up. he uses the f word to describe how much he hates his own miserable being at the time of writing the song.
Using fuck doesn't show a lack of ability to express himself, it shows his complete understanding of his feelings. He is the miserable fuck. That's the point. This song is meant to express his life and feelings at this time. If you have heard any of his other songs, you will know that he is a very honest artist who has an incredible ability to express his difficult feelings through the lyrics. If anything, the use of swear words only increases the potency and emotionality of the song.
who cares if he used the word fuck. It doesn't change how great the song is. Not every song is going to be "family friendly." It is his way of expressing his emotion in this song. It isn't like he is using it in terrible context.
However, just because you include "fuck" doesn't mean that you added it in just because you wanted to be, quote-unquote, edgy. There is a lot of emotion that goes with that word, and, sometimes, nothing else fits.
I'm big on family-friendly music. *shrugs* And that kind of language, even if it fits, isn't family friendly. If I can't share it with everyone, well, I can't explain it, but I want to be able to share songs I like with people I care about, and that kind of language hinders that. Being able to share music that's meaningful to me is extremely important to me.
Fair enough. I completely understand what you're saying, and I agree: this isn't something that I would share with my little sister, at least until she's mature enough to handle it. All I'm saying is that just because you use a swear doesn't mean the song itself is not worth listening to. I find the musicality of the song is beautiful, and, for the most part, the lyrics are very nice, though melancholy.
Of course, again, that is just my opinion. *shrugs* To each their own, I suppose.
Why is using that word such a big deal? It's just that - a word!!! It has a meaning and it's being used in an emotive and meaningful way. There's no gratuitousness in his use of the word. There are some things that are aimed at adults because they deal with adult situations. Sure, you might not play the song to your sister, but although the music is beautiful on its own, the lyrics would mean very little to a young girl. There's plenty of other music around with lyrics suitable for young people.
this song just blew my mind all over again, it's almost like every time you hear his songs it feels like the first time b/c theirs so much passion and emotion behind it, his voice the lyrics, the looping, it's all great, I'm officially jealous of this dude b/c he's on to something. Only other guy i've seen do similar is Joseph Arthur.
Beautiful , very well done just blowen away by the tallent to manage to build up the song using loops.people need to look deeper into the song ignore the single expliced word and look at the entire picture. this guy desevers respect. and respect is what i shall give :)
Absolutely stunning. A great song. That he pulled this off live by himself(in a bookstore no less)...the vocal harmonies at the end break your heart. David Ford- you are a major talent.
Why can't peoplelook beyond the 'nasty words' and appreciate the messag and the music? The usage of certain words gives off a certain mood, don't you think? Not all music is meant to be happy.
@DemonTZ You're an idiot. Words have consequences. He shouldn't use words like that. It's fucking cunts like him that makes the world so much like goatse.
@ArmoredFelix No, you're an idiot. Music isn't a conversation, it's an art form. The only "consequences" of his choice of word is the setting of the mood which DemonTZ described in his comment. He's not insulting you, he doesn't know you. It takes an amazingly shallow person to not appreciate the effect of the choice of words in a song and take the word "fuck" so seriously and a stupidly self obsessed to take it personally.
I'd also like to note the blatant hippocracy in your final sentence.
@Nayrbarr1234 On the other hand, your views on the effect word have is useful in certain circumstances. For example, I can say to you "Cheer up, you miserable fuck, and appreciate the music for what it is: art." and really mean it.
@Nayrbarr1234 I'm the idiot eh? You are retarded. Oh man, you must be American or six to fail to see the irony instead of the HYPOCRISY of my statement you illiterate buffoon. Either you're trolling or you're an idiot. As a word of advice don't use words you don't know well enough to spell correctly.
@ArmoredFelix First off, I'm dyslexic. It is far from my own fault that I have trouble with my spelling. Next, I am fully aware that you had intended to be ironic with your choice of words. Your attempt, however, falls down once the reader notices that you had previously stated that "he shouldn't use words like that". As this is an absolute (which states that swearing is NEVER the right thing too do), your attempt at irony becomes nothing but hypocrisy.
@Nayrbarr1234 As for my nationality, I am English. This, however, makes no difference. All that you've proven today is that you are an ignorant, narrow-minded, hypercritical racist. As such, I'm done with you. Unless you can post a retort which I think is even worth the effort which it would take to type a response, I sharn't bother continuing this argument.
@Nayrbarr1234 HA HA no, I live in America. Where it's perfectly legal to mock those that are less than human such as yourself. You disgrace to the human race.
@ArmoredFelix ...No, no it isn't. The 1990 "Americans with Disabilities Act" and the 2008 ASA Amendments both make it illegal to discriminate against people who are "less than human". Again, however, I find myself unable to resist relying to your idiocy. I shall have to try harder in future.
@Nayrbarr1234 For the government and corporations. It's perfectly legal for me as a private citizen to mock those that are less than human. Understand your laws before you cite them buffoon.
@ArmoredFelix In legal terms, there is a huge difference between it being "perfectly legal to mock those that are less than human" and it being "legal for [...] a private citizen" to discriminate against those whom they consider "less than human". The former apples to the state as a whole (including the government), whereas the latter is an individual's opinion. Understand the intricacies of your own grammar before insulting people and you might be able to hide what an idiot you are in future.
@Nayrbarr1234 You said nothing. Try to have something relevant to say if you are going to try to compete. You accuse me of not knowing my own grammar, you dastardly fellow, yet you still don't cite the relevant statute I have broken. So :D is all i have to say you retarded buffoon.
@ArmoredFelix Ah fuck. I had a response but accidentally deleted it. In short, I wan't criticizing the internal grammar of your sentence. I was noting that you referred to two completely different subjects as if they were one as a result of not understanding the implications of your choice of words (an important part of grammar). The only example needed is for me to point this contrast out, which I did.
@Nayrbarr1234 So are you still accusing me of breaking some arcane law against "discriminating" someone with some irrelevant excuse for a reason to be unable to speak correctly or do you admit that you were wrong?
@ArmoredFelix I'm not referring to out earlier conversation at all, I've moved on from that. I am criticising your ability to form sentences which interact coherently. In the UK, active discrimination by anyone against any particular group is illegal (At least, I believe this to be the case). This is a fact, just as it is a fact that it is illegal for the government and corporations to discriminate in America. Your original claim was that the latter of these facts was false, which I disproved.
@Nayrbarr1234 Yet I live in America, where protected classes are restricted to the niggers. Sucks to be you. You do not have the basic liberties that every man should have. Including, and perhaps the most important, the right to be offended. You are protected by your government because you are not capable of taking care of yourself. Or so your government believes. They keep you child like and enslaved. Are you on the dole?
@ArmoredFelix ...Why exactly is it a bad thing that out government gives a shit about people? I know you've tried to justify this opinion above, but the argument is.. invalid to say the least. Your view "basic liberties that every man should have" is terribly askew. There is not "right to be offended", and a mentally health person wouldn't see a need for there to be one. By it's very nature, being offended is a negative experience which no perfectly sane person would seek.
@Nayrbarr1234 That is so incredibly wrong as to be beneath notice. You really don't want to be offended? Being offended is one of the great experiences in life. It makes you realize what an utter twat you are. I guess you don't see it that way.
@Nayrbarr1234 My current criticism is of the fact that you changed your claim after I disproved it. You changed it to only include private citizens. This, I presumed, had been your intention all along, but you failed to communicate it due to your incorrect use of grammar. Ignoring this, you continued your argument as if you had never made this mistake and refused to acknowledge it.
@Nayrbarr1234 I never changed it, the private citizen part was implied because the corporate and governmental parts are known. Why would I mean that? Obviously I was talking about private citizens the entire time. Lrn2logic.
iv been to see him. TWICE! hes amazing. he started of a support for starsailor and then he went and got big in america then he came back to england and he has his own tour now. but he only performs in small venues.
small venues, may be that's what he is. i mean, his voice and the lyric he wrote, really good and people who are not able to go to the expensive concert need to hear his song!!! thx for the info.
like it it is sad and it reminds me of my friend that saddly was killed last year because of reading chain letters and now that you have read this eshe will slowly kill you by everytime you hear a ring in your ear she will make your life shorter by a day post this on five different vidios to be saved sorry
haha, thanks inkpaduta. You understood my intentions exactly.
Don't know what that grading was for. I was just making a joke, not insulting the guy. Hell, if I had one of those nice, expensive loop pedals, I'd try the same thing. That way you also have none of those artistic difference fights between band members. By the way, does anyone else think this guy sounds a little like Damien Rice?
Maybe a liiiiiiiitle bit but I pefer David Ford. He sounds more truthful in his lyrics. Almost like he's experience this sort of thing whilst Damien Rice has done but less so? If you know what I mean?
Seriously, people wouldn't think you were a jerk if you could just simply make a good statement. Criticize him but do it well mate. PLEASE for the GOOD of humanity
(please note this is a response to someone not an independant comment. I like David Ford. :D )
On the still David looks a lot like Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind. Love this though, Gordon Giltrap does the same thing, check out his youtube vids pretty cool stuff.
I think your missing the point, the lyrics insinuate that even though a lot of people see the worst of the world they still have a hell of a lot more to live for...so cheer up you miserable fuck.
We were standing to his right, just spellbound with
tingling skin and open hearts. the family with the boy with the long blond hair, the cute blond girl and the
astounded blond mom who was grinning with delight. yes we love him, he is adorable and has talent in every cell in his body. " you can't get tea here without lemon", he said so quietly and softly... we left with David in our hearts and listen to him at home and everywhere..
Amazing!!

The use of the 'F' word shows a lack of ability to express himself.
He reminds me of the sorrowfulness of Leonard Cohen except that this stuff makes Mr Cohen seem positively upbeat.
I think that the Miserable F*** is the singer himself.

If you know what I mean?

but WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY does he suck?!

Honestly I find this guys lyrics a bit of a downer. I suppose thats par for the course in the present state of the music biz.
