I think that the little girl isn't going to fight against the big monster (Totoro?), but is working together with it. The reason for this are the blood splats on her dress. They are on the other side of the monster while looking at the remains on the ground before the monster show that he ate the people while they were next to her. Wich means she was looking at it when it devoured them. If she was on the side of those people she would have been eaten too.
