I'm just wondering. Would it have been better to direct the jets towards the base of the fire ( where the most of the flames were ) rather than at the smoke above the fire.

Yeah it was Aldeburgh service centre. Date was May 2002. I live just along the road.

Aldeburgh Fire station is literally down a small lane about 15 meters from that petrol station, it is probably the quick response of the Aldeburgh crew that stopped a serious disaster! Well done lads!!
