Maybe you could use socks for that so it has a tighter fit. Then maybe sew the edges of the thumb hole so that the thread won't be loose.

I would also add a straightstitch around the thumbhole so it doesn't fray.

if you do this project, i recommend you do the stripes last after you pin the sleeve to fit. when its pinned make a few chalk lines where you want the stripes at the seam so they line up, then unpin it sew on the stripes then repin and they'll line up perfectly.

You could find a shirt with sleeves that are a bit tighter. It's probably work just the same... Just trim to fit and add the thumb hole!

It would, but you can always fix that by sewing a little bit around the hole or using a product like "No Sew" or any other fabric glue to keep it from fraying and rippin' up. :)
