I think its funny how people think the Amish are so different from everyone else.. the only difference is the belief and the way things are done.. the Amish are normal human beings like everyone else, there are good and bad among them just like every other ethnic group..
I'm from Lancaster, pa and let me tell you all... These Amish are bone headed and have Rocks for brains. They are very hypocritical and are cult like in the way they will exile someone for doing too much business out of the community.

Also I very much enjoyed how you answered these questions giving us a bit of insight, but the pauses and ums made it a little harder to understand, no offense! Thanks for the great vid!
I don't mean any disrespect or anything, but this is an honest question. Are the amish well educated? because we bought a puppy from an amish family and he didn't know how to read the dog-food box, he just showed us the name.
Hilarious how people who eat meat and wear leather ask about animal cruelty! These fools are the dumbest of all animals! Kind of like these idiots who say they care about humans yet support wars! I read in a book that Amish call non-amish "English" because we call them "Dutch Amish" and they don't like that because the roots are mainly from Germany. That's just something I read I don't know how true it is. I would like to have some clarification on this subject. Thank you.

I'm curious about the German dialect spoken in the Amish community. However, it seems difficult to find good audio samples of that online. If you are a speaker of Pennsylvania German: Does it enable you to follow the mainstream German (or else maybe Dutch) media, or is it too remote? The German Wikipedia entry about the Amish gives a rather beautiful sample sentence which I can understand - like a Palatinate speaker with a very thick accent who inserts English words once in a while.
Thanks for answering! I had watched the video of your parents before, but they were talking English.
Living in Mannheim, Germany, I must say that the similarity of your pronunciation to the dialect of this region here is pretty obvious. Some people would even, somewhat jokingly, write "siwwe", instead of "sieben", for 7. Or "fuffzehn" for 15. On the other hand, "zwee" for 2 sounds more like Dutch to me. And the "ch" in your "sechzig" for 60 sounds 100% High German.
Thanks, ya it is interesting in the comments of that video how some people found it similar to their own language, and not all of them were German, but other countries like Holland.

Vee Bish'd? I have a friend that was working as one of the head nurses in a hospital and she was told not to report the cases of amish child abuse. The case was reported and the authorities didn't do anything to the guy. They just took him to his bishop .The bishop just sent 2 men to follow him around all the time and the guy was let off the hook after he gave a confession and appolagized. I think the problem is that the wrongdoers are not being punished under the law. That is a big part of it!!
Glad that you were able to break away like I did. I found that the whole being Amish thing was more about their rules and less about people. I left beacuse they do everything without love. If that was not true then why are all the church services still in German? One day I will get past the ways that the Amish people have hurt me. If you don't want to live your life according to someone else's personal agenda then stay away from the teachings of Jacob Ammann and Menno Simons. Sorry to be boring
Not boring at all, I get all kinds of feedback in interesting way about my videos, last night I got a call for a guy who I need to help me with a project, and he started to talk about my videos too...
Anyway, that is exactly what many have been finding that these too people were more about making rules then about helping people learn about Christ...
Hmm (sorry it toke me this long to reply), I think the reason they did not like me, was cause of my family's history of coming from another sect (my grandma on mom's side), so everyone in my family had a problem with everyone, but things happened, and we ended up moving to this area, and it did not help. Now the area was mostly my family (aunts and ungles), and a few other people, but those people also did not like us, so tentions just got bigger... It is really hard to explain the whole thing..
Animals have souls or are souls rather. You are a human soul and they are the souls of whatever species they are. Its all over the bible. Its also sinful to be cruel to animals and to kill for sport. A righteous man roasts his kill..in other words you can't just kill an animal for no reason. This is part of the significance of fasting and it should be noted that God had to shed the blood of a lamb for us because we disobeyed him. It is the first time blood was shed on this earth sadly.
What part of what I said are you questioning? This guy was from England was wondering why he sees no Amish there and its because the Amish are descendants of the anabaptists..the pioneers of the reformation. They are European settlers like the rest of the white/european americans who come from there ancestors of the mayflower. The roman catholic church would torment the heck out of protestants and so they said "later" and the amish kept chose not to evolve with the rest. They are very american.
Hey sorry for the confustion, but you did not click reply to his comment, so it came out as a reply to the video rather then to him... He also will not be notified of your reply unless you post it under his message by clicking "reply" above his message.
How come there arnt any Amish in england? Also, how well do the Amish (born and Raised) understand the outside world. As far as I know, the Amish do get a chance to go out into the modern world (I couldnt think of a better word), but how much education do they get about it? Would they know who the current president is and all that? (Just so you know, I live in England, so i've never actualy met an Amish person before.)
well becasue they left the old world to come here. they are descendants of the reformation group and since that time was 1600s?? They came here and actually before we were set on a language. German almost became our language but the quakers stayed with it..its why most of them are tri-lingual. They learn English but I think some amish groups primary language is German/Dutch and they learn English as a second language. They have one room schoolhouses usually till the 8th grade.
I am from Centralamerica, when I was a boy I remenber dreamed with two old men and one old lady dressed like to the Amish people, it was curious because I never saw Amish on my country So now I was in New Holland and Lancaster, PA. 3 times and they are a beautiful people for me I guess They are SPECIAL PEOPLE. I am not religious but I believe in God.
Not so much for the Swartzentrubers, although I know of one family that left after joinging the Swartzentrubers... But there are actually online groups of people who call themself "seekers" who want to join the Amish.
elderly woman and has confessed to doing it other times after being caught. How would the Amish community deal with him if he were released from prison and placed back in the Amish community? How likely would he be to continue abusing other young girls in the community?
Hi Mr. Deleted, I'm actually writing a paper on how the Amish deal with pedophilia. One of the questions I have to address is, what types of concerns should there be if an Amish pedophile is released back to the community on parole? and why? I ask with respect, becuae I have been unable to find much information on how the Amish deal with pedophiles. The scenario to my case is that an Amish man has been incarcerated and is up for parole, but he has sexually assaulted plenty of kids and an
Although I am "English" I taught at an Amish schoolhouse in Gordonville pa for 1 term. I did not see evidence of child abuse in all my years of associating with the community. Is it a big problem in the Amish near you?
This is pretty much based on my experience with the Swartzentruber Amish sect, and although not all of them are abusive, the biggest problem that I see is that they do not report it, and that makes them just as guilty as those who do abuse.
i'm from malaysia, i found out that amish is somekind interesting to me. their quilt is very very beautiful, their lifestyle kinda remind me of the old english hundred of hundred years ago. my question is there any possibilities that this culture will be dissappear or vanish in short time since there are to much of globalization factors around them?
I am "English", but had many Amish neighbors, when I lived in Southern Iowa. I have been fortunate to become very close to many families in the community. I have eaten at their tables, worked beside them, been invited to family gatherings, and stayed in their family's homes when I've driven them to other states to visit. There are so many misconceptions about the Amish, which is a shame. I feel so blessed to be so accepted, and I have the greatest respect for the people and their beliefs.
I wouldn't classify the Amish lifestyle as a "cult"...it's just a way of life. When you understand the reasoning behind their choices, it actually makes sense...although it's not for everyone. It's not perfect, but it's certainly more healthy than what we live with in "modern" society. It is hard work, but the positive work ethic and sense of "community" are inspiring.
I enjoy listening to you explain your journeys in life. I respect the Amish and have a better understanding that most English. A few years back I was involved with a Amish guy and he left to come and live with me. It didn't work out but we remain friends. He explained alot to me about the Amish ways and I have many friends who are still Amish. Why can't people understand that they are human just like us but choose to live a very simple life. For most parts a good life. Hope to hear more from you
Yes. Some I would not know who they are anymore, but I have spoke to some who now have large families (you may think I have a lot of kids with 4, but my one sister now has 14!)
You are not amish, you're a drug addict .I grew up amish and watched many of you goofballs get lost on dope and I think you are a disgrace to any culture. Remember Danny Miller from Holmes Co.? Learn a lesson..... Hashbiya
Oh ofcourse I am not Amish, I left that culture almost 10 years ago! As for drugs, yes I have taken some like cold medicine. But I never got addicted to it.
I can't say I remember Danny Miller, I was never in Holmes County that much, so I am not sure what you are talking about.
Also hard drugs are bad for you, please seek some help before posting again on here? thanks.
Yes. In fact they practice "bed courtship" in some groups, meaning the dating couple go to bed together, with a board between them... like that is effective lol.
In most cases, they would! One of my sisters' boyfriend insisted he had sex with my sister to get my parents to let her get married at 19. My mom did not believe him, but the ministers forced her to let my sister get married. Ofcourse he had to pay for her till my sister's 21st birthday, as if she was his maid... BTW that sister now has 14 kids.

Shazzarei 3 years ago
So true, and that is the major part of the problem.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
Glad that you were able to break away like I did. I found that the whole being Amish thing was more about their rules and less about people. I left beacuse they do everything without love. If that was not true then why are all the church services still in German? One day I will get past the ways that the Amish people have hurt me. If you don't want to live your life according to someone else's personal agenda then stay away from the teachings of Jacob Ammann and Menno Simons. Sorry to be boring
Shazzarei 3 years ago
Not boring at all, I get all kinds of feedback in interesting way about my videos, last night I got a call for a guy who I need to help me with a project, and he started to talk about my videos too...
Anyway, that is exactly what many have been finding that these too people were more about making rules then about helping people learn about Christ...

you're my idol. I find the amish community so interesting and i give you props for doing this (:

From the looks of your username, so are you.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
Hmm (sorry it toke me this long to reply), I think the reason they did not like me, was cause of my family's history of coming from another sect (my grandma on mom's side), so everyone in my family had a problem with everyone, but things happened, and we ended up moving to this area, and it did not help. Now the area was mostly my family (aunts and ungles), and a few other people, but those people also did not like us, so tentions just got bigger... It is really hard to explain the whole thing..
mrdeleted 3 years ago
so what is your standing on the concept of forgivness.
iworkforme 3 years ago
I believe you need to forgive if you want to be forgiven...
Actually, for the Swartzentrubers, they need to learn that concept, as they do not seem to know how to forgive.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
I know this is a weird one but how do the amish folk view masturbation?
francisliamburton 3 years ago
I don't think they like it... I know of a guy who got caught doing that and it toke them a long time to get over it...
mrdeleted 3 years ago
I'm sure its frowned upon as it is with strict southern baptists..they are in some ways related.
cymbeli 3 years ago
Animals have souls or are souls rather. You are a human soul and they are the souls of whatever species they are. Its all over the bible. Its also sinful to be cruel to animals and to kill for sport. A righteous man roasts his kill..in other words you can't just kill an animal for no reason. This is part of the significance of fasting and it should be noted that God had to shed the blood of a lamb for us because we disobeyed him. It is the first time blood was shed on this earth sadly.
cymbeli 3 years ago
First? There was killing and blood shed as far back as when Cain killed his brother... I am wondering what you trying to say...
mrdeleted 3 years ago
What part of what I said are you questioning? This guy was from England was wondering why he sees no Amish there and its because the Amish are descendants of the anabaptists..the pioneers of the reformation. They are European settlers like the rest of the white/european americans who come from there ancestors of the mayflower. The roman catholic church would torment the heck out of protestants and so they said "later" and the amish kept chose not to evolve with the rest. They are very american.
cymbeli 3 years ago
Hey sorry for the confustion, but you did not click reply to his comment, so it came out as a reply to the video rather then to him... He also will not be notified of your reply unless you post it under his message by clicking "reply" above his message.

How come there arnt any Amish in england? Also, how well do the Amish (born and Raised) understand the outside world. As far as I know, the Amish do get a chance to go out into the modern world (I couldnt think of a better word), but how much education do they get about it? Would they know who the current president is and all that? (Just so you know, I live in England, so i've never actualy met an Amish person before.)
PsychoRage666 3 years ago
hmmm i guess that is cause of them coming to America a few 100 years ago, and staying here...
I think most of them would, they can read newpapers, although they probably mostly read the Budget, an Amish newspaper...
mrdeleted 3 years ago
thanks for replying so fast.
PsychoRage666 3 years ago
well becasue they left the old world to come here. they are descendants of the reformation group and since that time was 1600s?? They came here and actually before we were set on a language. German almost became our language but the quakers stayed with it..its why most of them are tri-lingual. They learn English but I think some amish groups primary language is German/Dutch and they learn English as a second language. They have one room schoolhouses usually till the 8th grade.
cymbeli 3 years ago
I am from Centralamerica, when I was a boy I remenber dreamed with two old men and one old lady dressed like to the Amish people, it was curious because I never saw Amish on my country So now I was in New Holland and Lancaster, PA. 3 times and they are a beautiful people for me I guess They are SPECIAL PEOPLE. I am not religious but I believe in God.

I have a question! how common is it for an outsider to join the Amish church?
lablover959 3 years ago
they can't
elrscott 3 years ago
I've read around that they can! I have another question! How do you say, "Shut up!" in Penn. Dutch?
lablover959 3 years ago
as for "shut up" it is something like "saa shtill", maybe I'll make a video sometime with some prononations...
mrdeleted 3 years ago
Thank you!
lablover959 3 years ago
Not so much for the Swartzentrubers, although I know of one family that left after joinging the Swartzentrubers... But there are actually online groups of people who call themself "seekers" who want to join the Amish.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
Do you know the name of one of those groups?
lablover959 3 years ago
Conservative_Anabaptists on Yahoo Groups, you can also search that site for Amish keywords...

elderly woman and has confessed to doing it other times after being caught. How would the Amish community deal with him if he were released from prison and placed back in the Amish community? How likely would he be to continue abusing other young girls in the community?

Would you be willing to call me? The number is 800-739-VILLAGE
mrdeleted 3 years ago

Is it a big problem in the Amish near you?
gettalong123 3 years ago
This is pretty much based on my experience with the Swartzentruber Amish sect, and although not all of them are abusive, the biggest problem that I see is that they do not report it, and that makes them just as guilty as those who do abuse.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
You still have a very Amish accent. i was just at a friends Amish wedding today in Gordonville PA.

He doesn't know we are flying to Tokyo.
He's not going to panic and scream "WITCHCRAFT!", is he?

i'm from malaysia, i found out that amish is somekind interesting to me. their quilt is very very beautiful, their lifestyle kinda remind me of the old english hundred of hundred years ago. my question is there any possibilities that this culture will be dissappear or vanish in short time since there are to much of globalization factors around them?
lavennovell 3 years ago 2
I am "English", but had many Amish neighbors, when I lived in Southern Iowa. I have been fortunate to become very close to many families in the community. I have eaten at their tables, worked beside them, been invited to family gatherings, and stayed in their family's homes when I've driven them to other states to visit. There are so many misconceptions about the Amish, which is a shame. I feel so blessed to be so accepted, and I have the greatest respect for the people and their beliefs.
misterb1965 3 years ago
Why did you left amish cult? Hard life?
Kristycoon29 3 years ago
I wouldn't classify the Amish lifestyle as a "cult"...it's just a way of life. When you understand the reasoning behind their choices, it actually makes sense...although it's not for everyone. It's not perfect, but it's certainly more healthy than what we live with in "modern" society. It is hard work, but the positive work ethic and sense of "community" are inspiring.
misterb1965 3 years ago
I enjoy listening to you explain your journeys in life. I respect the Amish and have a better understanding that most English. A few years back I was involved with a Amish guy and he left to come and live with me. It didn't work out but we remain friends. He explained alot to me about the Amish ways and I have many friends who are still Amish. Why can't people understand that they are human just like us but choose to live a very simple life. For most parts a good life. Hope to hear more from you

do you ever see any of the amish people you grew up with
skippylexi 3 years ago
Yes. Some I would not know who they are anymore, but I have spoke to some who now have large families (you may think I have a lot of kids with 4, but my one sister now has 14!)
mrdeleted 3 years ago
cool thanks for responding so soon :)

You are not amish, you're a drug addict .I grew up amish and watched many of you goofballs get lost on dope and I think you are a disgrace to any culture. Remember Danny Miller from Holmes Co.? Learn a lesson..... Hashbiya
ftlbrt 3 years ago
Oh ofcourse I am not Amish, I left that culture almost 10 years ago! As for drugs, yes I have taken some like cold medicine. But I never got addicted to it.
I can't say I remember Danny Miller, I was never in Holmes County that much, so I am not sure what you are talking about.
Also hard drugs are bad for you, please seek some help before posting again on here? thanks.

do the amish date?
saturrdayzz 3 years ago
Yes. In fact they practice "bed courtship" in some groups, meaning the dating couple go to bed together, with a board between them... like that is effective lol.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
lol can they move the board?
saturrdayzz 3 years ago
or jump over it lol
mrdeleted 3 years ago
lol i wish i was amish!
saturrdayzz 3 years ago
lol well I am not sure that is a good thing though, you may end up haveing to get married cause of that.
mrdeleted 3 years ago
lol not if they dont find out
saturrdayzz 3 years ago
In most cases, they would! One of my sisters' boyfriend insisted he had sex with my sister to get my parents to let her get married at 19. My mom did not believe him, but the ministers forced her to let my sister get married. Ofcourse he had to pay for her till my sister's 21st birthday, as if she was his maid... BTW that sister now has 14 kids.
