So you payed all that money to go study at Berklee and yet you cannot tell the difference between a ruff and a drag! WHAT YOU HAVE JUST TOUGHT US ALL IS A DRAG! NOT A RUFF! A ruff is based on the single stroke roll and has NO double stroke within it!
@DubsMood Yep! Never trust someone with a glued on Tash and shit sounding snare with duck tape. Probably one of the worst rudiment lessons I have seen on here, he didnt fill me with confidence or sound confident, I actually thought the camera would pan out and there was gonna be some 70's porn going on or something!
first of all, a ruff is a short single stroke roll, you are playing drags... A three stroke ruff has two alternating grace notes before the main accent. A 4 stroke ruff has 3 alternating grace notes before the accented note jsdrumcapt. ALL short single stroke rolls are ruffs! there are five families of rudiments
He is playing a Three Stroke Ruff. The two grace notes is a drag note. The Main Note (quarter) is the Ruff. It is a single component. A drag is a combination of Ruffs: 1 drag& 2 drag&. I know, it is very confusing to many drummers.
What the drummer in the video is playing is just what the title and description says, it is a Three Stroke Ruff. What you are describing, is a Four Stroke Ruff.
Hey man, I appreciate you taking the time to make the videos...but I gotta say, with that hat and mustache...I keep expecting to see you crusing around my sons daycare in a big panel van - i'm just saying is all

whats d difference of this ruff to a drag??
fammahum 2 years ago
Nothing lol.
Its just another name for it. Like how a sixteenth note is called a semiquaver, a three stroke rough is just another name for drag. :D

Not everyone is meant to teach. IMO you should keep studying with a drum teacher. Not trying to be mean just stating the obvious.
