I may be wrong, but Atheism within the Western philosophical canon has had very definitive propositions based on rationality and empiricism with an underlying aura of teleological thought. Determinism is the bedrock of many philosophical traditions in the West. Post-Structuralist thought de-centers many of the great ontological and epistemological claims that have been held for many centuries. Today the deconstruction of Atheism leads to new theological interpretations i.e death of god theology
@Alberto2382 I approach this as a layman, but isn't Christianity the ultimate embodiment of determinism? Zizek talks about this a little bit, saying that if everything that happens is God's plan are you prepared to say that atrocities are also part of that greater plan? Most Christians I talk to, both in times of desperation or joy, says that their condition is only possible because God has willed it. In this sense I think that determinism is an atheist mirror to an omnipotent, Abrahamic, God.
The most daring claim that Zizek makes is the inverse statement of only a true Christian can be an Atheist. Voluntarist philoosphy and axiomatic thinking confines us to the condemnation of pre-destination. Christianity has always been on the side of free will, and on the side of the poor. The Christian message is best exemplified through the belief in the permeation of the holy spirit through the death of Jesus. Ironically, Atheism has undermined itself via post-structuralist philosophy.
@Alberto2382 Your words are indicative of a lack of thought and understanding, I think. At least, this is the conclusion I am forced to come through. However, perhaps I should give you the benefit of the doubt. Please, enlighten me, how has Atheism undermined itself via post-structuralist thought?
