most people try to go too fast with sweep picking

practise as slow as possible to get your hands muscle memories synced

if you're not making progress your probably going too fast

if your making mistakes while playing faster then your going too fast

also holding the pick at a 45 degree angle helps, well it does for me

@Kona20 it doesn't matter when to learn sweep picking i've only had my guitar for 2 months and i'm already trying to learn sweep picking. just play and learn how you want. :)

@master18666 - that is silly. You should master your more frequently used picking before attempting something like this, you may learn to do it... but why not master alternate picking and string skipping etc.... stuff used more often than sweeping. Sweeping is adding cool tools to your arsenal, but hammer on's, pull off's.. alternate picking, tremelo picking, etc... should be learned before sweeping....

@master18666 iv played seven months nd thts a bad idea im self taught nd i aint tht dumb serioulsly learn your scales i mean all 5positions to the pentatonic scale then learn stuff like this because the pentatonic scale is probs the mot important start to your improvisation nd soloing. then add tins like pinch harmonics nd bending nd slides etc to ur solos before u try sweeping because you also need your sweeps to b in key with ur solo otherwise it sounds bad

tip 1:

don't begin with all 6 strings start with 3

tip 2:

search for an easy lick or 1 exercise

tip 3: first unplugged to hear all your notes

tip 4: start with clean sound later you can do high gain and crunch

tip 5: search youtube or something for people who play sweep picking, maybe you can find a trick to make it easy.

and finally tip 6: practice is the only way to understand it, pick everytime you watch video's, tutorials, or lesson your guitar and do what they do.

but that could be a bit tricky because you're only muting that one specific string, also it might be a tad hard to avoid accidental muting on the other strings too so.. i can try it anyway, thanks :)

when I try and do the sweep picking and i take my finger off the string to move to the next string, the string which i have took my finger off still rings out, so it's almost like a pull-off effect.

I agree with XxshoverbxX , I started watching them last night. I got frustrated after about 5 minutes. So I put the guitar down, then when I got up today I tried it again. It only took me about 10 minutes to get all of this down. Be sure you take little breaks though. So you don't get so stressed. Your progress will be better. :)
