  • You are taking the context out of Bible.

  • "I'll pray for you" is the theists way of saying, "fuck you!"

  • Thats what the New Testament is all about. A new covenant with God. God made up with man.

  • Jesus was a mushroom... case closed.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. As an Atheist, pardon me, as a human being this makes a terrible amount of sense to me, and I would hope, quite a bit of sense to the rest of the world. Especially American Christians, whom I have heard make said argument several times in my life...if only they would all watch this.

  • as an 'american christian' of sorts, i wish they would all watch this too.

  • The problem is that the bible took the truth out of context and what came out of that is the mixed up judeo-christian faith. Watch Micheal Newton's and Brian Weiss's videos. They discribe, heaven, purpose, and spiritual with clarity and common sense! Life, growth, review and then repeat again and again. Its quite simple, includes everyone, jew, muslim, hindu, athiest etc... backed up by countless experiences and even proof through record findings! Only one unnessesary causualty .. love of Jesus!

  • here on youtube? newtona and weiss?

  • Yes they both have videos on youtube and great books that go into detail. The love of jesus is too beautiful to describe but the religions that promote it truly screwed it up! Too much condemnation, fear of the devil/hell and self rightousness which lead to countless wars and violence! Remember how the churches promoted Gibson's "the passion" but said little about Zefferelli's "Jesus of Nazareth" which is a wholy better representation of this great man!

  • your are quoteing the bible out of context

  • hahahahahahah

  • The misquoting of the Scripture irks me too, but the problem you have with this is not that the bits you speak of are not in the Scripture but that the Christians you come across don't know what it all means any more than you do. You begin with the premise that people are good to begin with and don't deserve what they have coming.

  • I'm sure everyone by now knows how god killed all the first born cause the Phero didn't let moses people go. Sure the people got told of this, but I'm sure that some people didn't didn't take the sheep's blood and put it on there doors to protect them, and Innocent people died.

  • this guys an idiot...

  • Nick Gisburne is an intellectual not an idiot you retard

  • Sure... what are his academic credentials again?

  • You do not need credentials to be an intellectual. His videos contain legitimate proof, which is more than can be said for most of the videos on here. He is doing more than stating his opinion, he is stating FACTS, which is also more than can be said for many videos on this site. I can understand you not agreeing with someone's OPINION and calling them an idiot, but you cannot call someone an idiot who only states FACTS.

  • Straw man argument. You called him an "intellectual". And now all you are talking about are "facts". You need more than facts to be an intellectual.

  • Saying Christians quote the bible out of context is not a fact. Quoting a single verse is not taking a bible out of context. Quoting a single verse and interpreting it outside of its context is taking scripture out of context. If this guy had any kind of credentials he would know this. Its not fact.... its not even opinion... is pure unadulteratedly wrong miss-fact.... its just stupid.

  • It is a fact. I go to a catholic school and the bible is quoted and interpreted out of context every day at morning announcements.

  • Just because you go to catholic school doesn't mean anything.

How do they quote the bible out of context? Tell me something they quoted out of context... And tell me why it is out of context...

Quoting a single verse is not "quoting out of context".

  • Every morning they take a bible verse and quote only the portion of it that fits today's "moral standard" and then they try and adapt it to todays world, which is really out of context because todays world is almost nothing like the world of the bible. I have even brought that issue up...i quoted a sexist verse from 1 Tim and my teacher replied with "that is out of context".

  • Your example is the exact opposite then what you are telling me. It is YOU that is taking a verse from a different culture and a different time and then trying to "adapt it to todays world" by interpreting it through your narrow perspective. By calling the verse sexest you are in fact taking the verse out of context. So far, from what you told me, your teacher is right.

  • I was taking it out of context there, I admit it. However, the verse that I was talking about was actually used to justify the firing of a female teacher that taught a Sunday school like course to adults. It went something like "no woman shall ever have authority over a man" or something like that. Wasn't the preacher that used that quote quoting the bible out of context?

  • In that particular situation I would say they did interpret it the wrong way. Thats my PERSONAL opinion. But to say its out of context would require a valid argument to explain why so. But if you don't agree with it, change churches... but this is not the same thing that Gisburne is talking about.

  • There are many ignorant bastards that say Hucklerry Finn is a racist book because of its liberal use of the word nigger when Huck describes and talks about Jim.

You could easily take anyone of the countless passages of Huck talking about Tim, quote it and claim that the book is racist, but IT WOULD be quoting the book out of context, you would be wrong just like you are here.

  • In order to understand the true meaning of Huckleberry Finn you would have to quote the passages where Huck contemplates racism. You would have to quote the verse where Huck decides that if helping Jim to freedom is wrong then he is going to do the wrong thing anyway, because it still feels right.

When you quote THAT passage to illustrate that the book is the most racially liberating book of its time, THEN you are not quoting passages out of context anymore.

  • Here here! Wait... maybe that was out of context... ;)
