Being born in Belgium, raised in Holland (during WW2 that was occupied by Germany), moving to England and later America, living in Switzerland until her death (RIP) and being able to speak fluent French (she had small parts where she spoke French in some of her films such as Paris When It Sizzles and The Childrens Hour) , her second husband Andrea Dotti was Italian as well and she lived in Italy for a while, then yes its not suprising at all that Audrey spoke many languages =) <3

@Lemontree23 I find it interesting that most Europeans speak several languages, perhaps because travel between countries is commonplace, accessible, and affordable. I believe Ms Hepburn lived abroad and because she is very bright...picked up Italian and also French.

She had been married to a Italian Doctor 13 years. She had a child in 1979 called Luca Dotti.

That's why her italian was almost flawless.

@pyt82 It's obvious that the fact that her husband was italian probably helped her improve her accent, but she learned how to speak italian long before she married Andrea Dotti. She was fluent in loads of languages, includind spanish, italian, german... That was one of her many talents and it helped her a lot during her Unicef missions.

I'm pretty sure Audrey was fluent in Italian since her childhood. I also read somewhere that she did her own voice-over translations for the Roman Holiday movie launch in Italian. She was fluent in her early twenties, so I think she learned the language when she was still in early school, during WW2.
