I have a 1972 Chevy Caprice Kingswood Estate wagon and mine too has all manual windows save for the back gate window, which is electric. Power windows @ doors were options. I love these old wood-grained station wagons of the 60s-70s.
Wagons are very cool,i believe this is a 390 2 bbl. I don't think the 390 4 bbl were available in the LTD that year. Growing up we had the twin to your wagon,it was a 9 passenger with the fold down 3rd seat.
Thanks for the video. Takes me back. My father bought one new and we grew up in it. It had the 429 2bl though. On the wheel covers, I seem to remember the ones you have as the same ones which came stock. Take care.
youre lucky to have manual windows... i have a LTD sedan 69 and all but the front passenger side windows have frozen so i have to take all the doors apart and replace all four motors.
Did you mention that the wheel covers were incorrect for a 1969? Those came off a 69/70 Marquis or Monterey. It's a great video and I love the wagons...I have a 1991 Colony Park that I got from the original owner that still looks new even in the Arizona sun. Another product for the wood panel applique is Future Floor Finish or maybe it's called Pledge.....
your accelerator pump gasket is shot, its leaking fuel and it needs an exhaust donut. itll run the new r12 freon, put two cans of oil and the rest freon 4 cans and it should operate.
My parents got one of these when I was in Jr High School, and as a class project, took it to school, and repaired the rust work on it, it was like a light yellow/beige color, black interior, inside was great, but repaired the outside!
Parents brought one of these home back in '72. Red with red interior. I used to call it the fire truck. Remember diving over the seats like an obsticle course. Standing on the back bumper holding the luggage rack like a fire fighter. Road trips to grandparent house every summer. Thought this was the coolest car in the world. I was just a year older than this ride. Didn't know it was supose to be driven by square parents. Still think it's cool!!!
Had a 69 Ford LTD Country Squire Station Wagon in my college years. Had the 429 4-bbl carburetor and the trailer package with a 3.25 rear axle. Weighed 4850 lbs. It was maroon. Used to race it at Milan dragway in Michigan. It ran 15.67 seconds in the quarter mile at 89 MPH. I used to get between 11 and 13 MPG.
i have an 84 mercury version of this now had since "96. had one similar to yours in the 80's. looking for another one someday of this vintage. cool thing about these cars is typically no one else around has one or has seen one in years. they tend to draw attention whenever you take them out. i call this phenomenon - "rising coolness" fyi - i have seen the taillights lenzes and cages for these on ebay from time to time new.
my first car was a 1969 ford ltd country squire wagon with a 2 barrel 351 engine. color was jade black. got it in 1974 from my dad. i have many many great memories of that car. i used to drive it off road a lot too. talk about heavy metal. and after i installed my 8-track player i was in heaven. i would love to get another some day to restore. love your video.
When I was a kid in the 60s, my neighbors had a '68 Country Squire. I only know it was a '68 by looking at pictures of that model. I recognized it right away. My neighbor's had a blown shock or something in the right rear because that corner always kind of dragged, lol. What a great sight it was as it came down the road with all the kids in the back, pulling into their driveway! Aaah, great memories!
This was our family car from when I was 10 to 14. I am nostalgic for it. It was the 2nd of 3 Ford wagons my dad bought for the family car. All 7 of us went camping in it, with a ton on the roof rack!
thanks for the video! my newest ride is a 1970 country squire with a 390cui 2V like yours. even the look is nearly the same... will make a video someday and upload it!
My parents had one like that, it was more a lighter yellowey blend color, they bought it off neighbors for $600, and it ran great! My dad did some body work on it, it had rust in some areas, then he kinda gave up on it, so I as a kid loved the car, so I went on and repainted where it was primered, and pretty much looked like new! The back area at the tail gate, those seats came up, but we never used them, but I kept it clean, and the seats with armour all on them!!
I have one the same color, although I have dark brown interior. The original owner passed away and the family donated it to the Salvation Army. I bought it from the lot contracted to sell for the SA. Mine has a 390 2V, AM radio with optional rear speaker, and no roofrack. Mine still wears the original California black plates. I took to to the Fabulous Fords Forever show where there was something like 15 Country Squires this year. I also have 1972 Grand Torino Squire and a 1956 Country Squire.
My mom had one new! Iwas 7 at the time ,as kids we used to stand in front of it and my dad used to put the lights up and down!YOU are lucky! hold on to it ,i wish i had one. it has to be a 69, best looking ford ever!
That is one gorgeous wagon, and I commend people like you who are helping to keep these classics where they belong--on the road. Superb video, although the audio suffered at times with the passing traffic, but I got the gist of it. Great description of an awesome car. We had a '68 CS which got stolen. I remember these wagons well--I'm 46. Thanks for posting and for some great memories.
We were forced to drive a '70 LTD in high school during the 80's when they weren't so cool. We were very embarrassed to be seen in it. All the cool kids were driving accord & rabbit hatch backs at my school. I was so glad when Dad finally bought us a VW rabbit.
nah - don't listen to this dirty little whore Rebecca - she is just pissed cause some guy named Vince used to like to suck cock instead of her yeast infected bug. Dig the car -
Chris, thank you for this video; it is one of my favorites! I grew up with a 1969 LTD Brougham 4 dr hardtop (not a wagon, but a pillarless sedan). Our LTD had a 429 engine, and your wagon's exhaust sound reminds me of that car. That sound was one of my favorite aspects of the our LTD!
Incidentally, I now have a '69 County Squire of my own...same color as yours! The original exhaust system is long gone, so I miss that distinctive song at idle!
Doobie, our '69 LTD Brougham hardtop had a "K" code 429 2V engine. The '69 Country Squire that I now own, however, has the "N" code 429 4V. Not too many of that combination around...
@Doobie1975 Hi Doobie, and sorry for the 3 month silence! Unfortunately, I can't really compare the performance difference between the engines because our my family's ownership of the 429 2V hardtop ended almost 30 years prior to my acquistion of the 429 4V wagon! And I wasn't of driving age when we owned the earlier car! As far as the rarity of 390 vs 429 engines, I believe the 390 was a much more popular (and therefore common) choice as it probably provided adequate performance for the job.
@KIILew I always feel that the 390's were the most common engines for the Ford full size wagons cause of the power/torque and they were pretty powerful motors
My parents purchased a 1969 Ford Country Squire Wagon in the Spring of '72. Green with the wood siding, a 390 2 bbl engine. The specs. said 270 hp and 10:5 compression ratio. A good, torquey work horse engine. Good memories in that car. It had only 60k miles on it in Feb. of '79 when it was rear ended by a Subaru Brat.
We had one of these when I was a kid. Maroon, with "wood" paneling. We used to hop out to watch the lights go off. Black vinyl interior got hot as hades.
my dad bought one of these in 1969. 390 4 bbl. green no wood. love that car. back had side bench seats which me and my twinn brother always got to sit on trips. can you see 5 brats in a ford station wagon going on a long trip.
Thanks, your video really brought back great memories. My mother had a white 1969 Ford LTD Country Squire with the 390 V-8, it was a special part of the family. We had so many good trips and times in that car - I'll never forget it. We drove it to the ground. The concealed headlamps were really neat, and I remember hopping from the back to the middle to the front and back having a blast - it was so roomy. Yikes, who used seatbelts in 1969? Thanks for posting, and hold on to your Country Squire!
I have a 1972 Chevy Caprice Kingswood Estate wagon and mine too has all manual windows save for the back gate window, which is electric. Power windows @ doors were options. I love these old wood-grained station wagons of the 60s-70s.
