Gratton should have gotten an instigator and a game. It was a clean fucking hit, and there was no need for the extra crap. Instead of jumping Phaneuf on a clean hit, Gratton should have tried to line up and cleanly hit Iginla.

I hate how poeple say he never fights. He has 20 fights in the last 3 1/2 years. That's a pretty high amount for someone who's clearly not an enforcer. And why would a player who is one of a team's best assets on offense AND defense want to fight more so that he could lose playing time? That wouldn't make any sense. people don't understand the difference between jumping at someone and creating momentum using spring from you legs mid section and occasionally arms. I'm all for hitting in hockey, it is part of the game, but Dion does it to hurt guys, he should focus on the play that will and does develope while he's out of position giving the hit. Dion is a douche bag. I've seen him play often in the WHL. I hope he gets what's coming to him. A cheap shot that sidelines him for the rest of his career.

people don't understand the difference between jumping at someone and creating momentum using spring from you legs mid section and occasionally arms. Phaneuf knows how to do it very well, it almost looks like hes getting ready to spring at them but hes just using extra muscle to make his hit more punishing, looks like a jump but isn't.

uhm. technically with the new rules his hit wasnt even clean. he left the ice. he jumps right before he hits him...so its not really clean. its excusable tho but you should have to defend yourself after a big hit because you cant just let a team rock all your players and you not do anything about it? you have to stand up for yourselves or it wont stop.

I've you watch many phaneuf hits he doesn't throw many elbows. You can even see it in this clip, he has his elbow out then drops it before he hits. After the hit his elbow follows through making it look like an elbow.
