Gay people don't get to choose who they fall in love with any more than straight people. Love just happens. Why should we judge people based on something they have absolutely no control over?

ok I will admit that i don't get the whole 'it gets better' we have so many who are coming out to support teens that it will improve after school. Ok, my own mother has said that if any of her children were gay she would disown them and thrown them out on the streets. I'm gay. So people say being gay is a choice. My way of dealing with bullying was effective, but not something I'd ever recommend to others. For me it was ruthless violence, intimidation and revenge. A lot of it had to do with the environment I lived in, and what I thought it took to survive. Sand in the crankcase, antifreeze in the fuel, setting cars on fire, slashing tires--I was never caught--but it instilled an element of fear that kept potential enemies at bay---people started to think I was dangerous and hot-headed. Not into that now.

I cried for this movie. My whole story came out. I am 51 and have lost one of my oldest friends four years ago, he was then 46. He hung himself because he thought he may be gay. At 46 he did not even accepted the idea. In my country being gay can still be a huge problem especially for those families having a catholic background. And our government is hugely homophobic. My way of dealing with bullying was effective, but not something I'd ever recommend to others. For me it was ruthless violence, intimidation and revenge. A lot of it had to do with the environment I lived in, and what I thought it took to survive. Sand in the crankcase, antifreeze in the fuel, setting cars on fire, slashing tires--I was never caught--but it instilled an element of fear that kept potential enemies at bay---people started to think I was dangerous and hot-headed. Not into that now.

This does really make me think..if being gay was a choice, why would anyone wanna suffer this kind of abuse if they could just switch oritentation tomorrow. Heh. I'm pansexual but at first I thought I was bi.... And I was a LOT more afraid of how my mom would react to me being bi than I would've been if I'd been a lesbian! She's a tad (ok alot but I love my mum and she's otherwise a nice person) homophobic, but she thinks bisexual people are the lowest of the low.

I thought that Canada had a lot more advanced society in terms of sexuality acceptance. After all they rank really high worldwide in education, health, and several cities have really high standard of living. It's gonna take a long time before occident considers homosexuality as something normal.

I cried for this movie. My whole story came out. I am 51 and have lost one of my oldest friends four years ago, he was then 46. He hung himself because he thought he may be gay. At 46 he did not even accepted the idea. In my country being gay can still be a huge problem especially for those families having a catholic background. And our government is hugely homophobic. I wish that I can say that I can understand the horrible things that the LGBT people go through, but I can't. Though, as an Asexual, I do get Straights giving me the evil eye because I'm comfortable that I don't need a man in my life, nor do I want children. I even get told that it is just a phase and that I should just try sex because it will 'cure' me.
