  • 1girl5gays :D

  • This video inspired me to come out again (as genderqueer) to my mother. I had a lot of tears but at least now we're closer to being on the same page and I feel like I can talk to her more.

  • i just came out to my parents in the last month. It felt *AMAZING*.i will wait til after junoir high to come out to friends. I happily have no bullying going on and would like to keep that way but pray for all the other teenagers who have to go thru and all the pain, and to the ones who ended the pain RIP.

  • i created a page called need someone to talk to .its all about helping people please check it out and possibly like it.thanks

  • The people featured were great but it was really missing Sook-yin Lee and Steven and Chris.

  • I'm watching this with tears in my eyes. I'm 36 years old..and still waiting for it to get better. I can't come out...I'm a single mom with two kids & depend totally on my parents for help. I dated a woman for one year, they disowned me. They told my kids that I was sick, and tried to get them to come and live with them. I went back in the closet. Now every day of my life is a lie. Still waiting....

  • Gay people don't get to choose who they fall in love with any more than straight people. Love just happens. Why should we judge people based on something they have absolutely no control over?

  • @HankKill93 Definition of ignorance, intolerance and hateful= an Americunt. FUCK YOU!

  • WHY WASNT MTV CANADA'S DAN LEVY PART OF THIS VIDEO?!

  • I'm 16 and just came out to my mom last Wednesday and it felt amazing the next day I told my step dad and sister and they were totally cool with it and made me feel so much better. It truly is like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. At least I have someone to talk to now. I think I'll wait to come out publicly till after high school cause I live in a small town where I know no other gays and everyone is a homophobe, can't wait to leave this town and explore the world and more importantly my s

  • I think it's important that Canadians admit that there is still homophobia in our society, and then look for solutions. Homophobia, and all forms of prejudice, thrive when people are not willing to talk about them.

So thanks a lot for everyone, straight, gay and everything in between, for bothering to watch this video and read comments.

  • I came out WOOT so much better love Canada glad I moved here Woot

  • Hey , check out our video about homophobia! We were really inspired by your video and catch phrase ! hope you like it

  • sn-n-n-nah sn-n-n-nah SNOW BUTTON

  • I composed a musical piece dedicated to "It gets Better". It's on my channel and called "Don't Despair" :-)

  • I love Canada :) so happy to live here

  • would just like to point out that not all christians hate gays. im a christian, i have no problem with gays. spread the love, it gets better!

  • @sjja6693 I am Christian, very practicing Catholic-to be precise... and guess what, I am GAY! :) IT DEFINITELY GETS BETTER!

  • I came here to feel better but this just made it worse because of everyone talking about their terrible time in school. Please somebody tell me I'm not the only one with a great loving family in SCHOOL, all my friends, and a fucked up home life. My mother is the most selfish person I have ever known. And right now I want to strangle her. She made me hit rock bottom & I begged her for help she turned to her bible group and asked for god to save her daughter. I'm her son. her transgender son.

  • @CatFlashBlue if you really need to talk contact me by message on youtube or add me.

  • @parie4me sure I'm always up for a friend- casual or serious that is. I was very angry & irrational the day of that last comment, by the way. As a general case I am the happiest person I know, and also very contradictory by nature. Just so you don't get this misperception that I'm all about glbt-oppression-angsty-hate or whatever =D

  • @CatFlashBlue We all have our bad days.

  • @CatFlashBlue You already saved yourself. Although you may feel helpless and hurt, you saved yourself from a life of lies and unhappiness down the road. Just know you are a strong person for going through all this. You should be proud and hold your head up high because you are now in control of your own life. Don't let people playing God, tell you what -they- think God wants. Only God can tell you what he thinks of you, not them and only you can control your life.

  • @Donevor Of course, of course. But that doesn't stop the insanity of being around people like my mother and sister. It's all because they think they're so right and I'm this horrible immoral person.

  • how is it possible that the focus is always on gay men. how's it justifiable that lesbians are a minority within a minority.

  • @MsCreepyCrawly Wow that hurts... it's not your fault. It's my mom's. She's making everything hurt right now. I am transgender female to male and that is the smallest minority within LGBT. 3 to 1 transgender people are male to female. I am a minority within a minority within a minority. Gay men may be the poster children, but lesbians aren't the only ones kicked to the curb.

  • ahhh why r gay men sooo damn gorgeous..

  • Thank you a million!!!

  • I am the proud sibling, cousin and friend of openly gay people. Thank you for this video! This makes me want to stand on the side of the street with a sign "It Get's Better". Being a teenager is hard enough, nobody deserves this torment for being who they were made to be! Love the one you love and never let anyone steal your joy!

  • I'm proud to say in openly bi. And I recently after 3 attempted suicides and almost dying have a tattoo on my left forearm which reads "it gets better"

  • Thank you so much for this! Such a positive video going beyond bullying to help prevent teen suicide. Thank you to all these successful Canadians for being OUT and reassuring those who aren't. I am always proud of Canadian media and films :)

  • ok I will admit that i don't get the whole 'it gets better' we have so many who are coming out to support teens that it will improve after school. No one seems to want to try to change what is happening *in* the schools. Just hang in there, survive and don't kill yourself until you are out of it and than it will get better. Bullying should be a crime. Bullying straight, gay, trans, nerds, the odd balls, the nemos the . . pick your label shouldn't be tolerated. EVER

  • Ok, my own mother has said that if any of her children were gay she would disown them and thrown them out on the streets. I'm gay. So people say being gay is a choice. If it were a choice I would change immediately, but the fact is, its not a choice. Do you think that i want my mother to hate me? So, all you people who say its a choice or were going to hell, doesn't god also say "do not judge"? Now who do you think is going to hell?

  • It does get better Canada!

I'm a very proud gay male from Ontario, i'm here for all of you.

  • Is it just me who's surprised about Rick Mercer being gay?? By the way, this video is amazing. I just hope that this message will get through to those kids that are really struggling and about to give up.<3

  • @themissbea00

I didn't know that Rick Mercer was gay until recently. I was surprised as well. It's nice to see these people give support to gay teens.

  • Really loved this video and it's all important message offering hope to those who need it. I'm Canadian and just loved seeing all the many well known Canadians being featured, knowing they too were bullied and have gone on to now know that it does get better. I have always loved Rick Mercer, he makes me laugh whenever I see him, didn't know he was gay, but what a fantastic role model! Thank you to ItGetsBetterCanada for an amazing video!

  • This is a very inspiring video. thank you for doing this. Hopefully I will be able to touch people like you have with my motivational speaking. thank you for this.

  • We are sooo lucky to be Canadian - It DOES get better - trust me!

Rick Mercer - you are AWESOME!!!!!

  • I wish It Gets Better here also in the Philippines..

  • Rex Murphey's gay? It was pretty obvious Rick Mercer was.

  • I think I can speak for every canadian when I say "Rick mercer is gay?!"... Now that I think about it, it makes sence.

  • Wow I had absolutely no idea that rick mercer is gay.

  • Rick Mercer: coolest homosexual since Neil Patrick Harris.

  • 2:26

    my favorite defensive speech ever

  • What I would give to live in Canada...

  • @whatsimonsays1 Marry a canadian :-) I did.

  • I'm not gay, but just hearing those discriminating words make me sooo angry

  • Rick Mercer is gay? Seriously???

  • I'm not gay,but i'm still made fun of because my sister is. If i get a little bullied just because my older sister is gay.I can't imagine what she went though.Even though you made some bad choices you are still my hero.I love you so much.<3 stay strong sis.

  • I found that really funny. "When you ride Air Canada, you get put in the front because. . . well, the guy behind the counter is gay too!"

    XD I love that!

  • I really didn't realize Rick Mercer was gay... that's cool, I think he's funny, but I guess I don't have very good 'gaydar'. lol

  • It's kind of funny put every time i feel down i see this video and i feel like things are better again.

  • My name is Breanna, I will be the president of the U.S, and I approve this message:)

  • My way of dealing with bullying was effective, but not something I'd ever recommend to others. For me it was ruthless violence, intimidation and revenge. A lot of it had to do with the environment I lived in, and what I thought it took to survive. Sand in the crankcase, antifreeze in the fuel, setting cars on fire, slashing tires--I was never caught--but it instilled an element of fear that kept potential enemies at bay---people started to think I was dangerous and hot-headed. Not into that now.

  • This video is reason #746,374 that I am unbelievably proud to be Canadian.

  • @anomicbomber Right on!!! I won't bother asking you to list the prior 7746,373 reasons, but I like the numbers.

  • This is my favourite "It Gets Better" video. I love my country. :3

  • I am GAY and I approve this message! lol it is certainly well done and I am proud of it. As for the bible, written over 2000 years ago! does it mean today what it did then? who has translated it countless times, whose opinion does it show now? Countless people die from wars brought on by Religion. Religion has no right to be upheld as a good thing Martha!

  • You marrying the same sex should not have to be legalized, it should have been legalized in the first place

  • beautiful message

  • First off, let's establish the fact that not everyone on the Internet is a Christian, and won't give a fuck about your bible quotes

Second, I'm not gay, but a lot of my friends are, and they get bullied alot, and i get bullied for being with them(and for having ADHD) and they dont care about what anyone else says nothing can change who they are!

  • I would just like to throw it out there, it says in the bible that you can sell your daughter if she gives you enough trouble and own a person in a neighboring country. I'm not sure everything the bible says fits in with today...

  • @beautifulwhitecat please shut the fuck up, nobody cares anymore about your bible. This is why I dont believe in god, because your god is a hypocrite. He says to love everybody but lets face it, when it says everybody, it means only people that are brainwashed into fitting into what the church thinks is right.

  • @MissAnglophile1 That's because they don't study the bible, the orginal hebrew bible doesn't condem homosexaulity and god is not a hypocrite as he is in the "American" bible.

  • @MissAnglophile1 look im gay and i know alot of other gay people dont believe in god.i do i believe that the churches are giving the wrong message!! but my god loves me completely as is not a hipocrite.

  • I don't get why people compare marrying a person of the same sex to marrying an animal.. or a sibling.. or a parent.

MARRYING SOMEONE OF THE SAME SEX WILL NOT ALTER YOUR CHILD'S GENETIC COMPLEX AND CAUSE MUTATION THAT WILL HARM THE CHILD PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY.

And at least a person of the same sex is not only close to your age, but also the same species.

So please, when you feel like asking an intelligent, and a not so common/cliche question, feel free to question the LGBT society.

  • It Gets Better videos make me feel like shit.

  • @MarleyTheRockstar I know the feeling I do NOT believe it either.

  • @EKmion

You are mixing up sexual identity with a list of other unrelated issues. Two consenting adults should be allowed to marry as a matter of equality. A 6year old? Thats paedophelia, animal? bestiality, sibling and parent? incest.

  • @Ayhayteyam And a man and a man? plain old gay, wrong, and discusting, ide say sin if i was a christian..

  • im sorry if i offend anyone, but when i saw RUG MUNCHER at 7:13 i giggled :P

  • just bought my plane ticket to canada.

    jk, I WISHHH.

  • being gay makes you think outside the box, I agree

  • Thanks to everyone who put this together.... it made me so proud.

  • 2:40 This. I feel like everyone else cares about my sexuality so much more than I even do.

  • @ITGetsBetterCanada

  • I LOVE LOVE this!!! I feel so heartbroken when I hear that some parents are so cruel. The home is where the love should be unconditional!!! Canada is such a phenomenal place and such progressive hearts and minds!

  • Of course canada makes a 12 minute movie about this. they fucking rock when it comes to the arts!

  • thanks it gets better project!!! :)

  • its just so hard being gay and more if your family doesnt accept it and it just ..........hard

  • This does really make me think..if being gay was a choice, why would anyone wanna suffer this kind of abuse if they could just switch oritentation tomorrow. Does make me realize as weak as we like to make gay people out to be, you have to be tough to take that kind of shit day in day out and still stay true to who you are. AND I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA RICK MERCER WAS GAY!! But I can say I respect him more now than I did before, didn't think I could actually say that.

  • Heh. I'm pansexual but at first I thought I was bi.... And I was a LOT more afraid of how my mom would react to me being bi than I would've been if I'd been a lesbian! She's a tad (ok alot but I love my mum and she's otherwise a nice person) homophobic, but she thinks bisexual people are the lowest of the low.

    She tolerates it.

As long as i don't talk about it!

  • I'm bisexual and 17 I came out when I was 13! It's been 4 years and it's gotten so much better and it will get better and better the older I get((: This It Gets Better Project is amazing ever gay and lesbian or even bi person needs to watch this!!!

  • ya canada i now love you and your maple syurp

  • I love you Rick Mercer! I didn't know before that you're gay, this gives me a new perspective about your conseravtive party commentaries. lol. You're a super funny brave man and I love you baby!

  • Thank you very much, you've helped me a lot. Still haven't come out to people, only to 4 friends. My school is filled with homophobes, my city is filled with homophobes.. even my family!!! But it will get better, it has to :)

  • @hazmonsterpaws it will! i promise... i myself am not gay, but my sister is and my parents are unbelievably homophobic... my mom was soo pissed at first, but she came around and is sooo supportive of my sister and her girlfriend... it might be nasty at first, but it get's better! :)

  • I am straight and everything, But I really believe that this I a great video for those people that are struggling with something like bullying to this extent. Great Video.

  • 8.20 made me laugh :) I love this, everyone, please believe, it really doest get better!

  • I thought that Canada had a lot more advanced society in terms of sexuality acceptance. After all they rank really high worldwide in education, health, and several cities have really high standard of living. It's gonna take a long time before occident considers homosexuality as something normal.

  • ahh, good ole' Canada. The singers, the gay-friendliness nowadays... good place, good place. : ) on a more serious note, this is a very lovely video. it helps a lot. :)

  • My uncles are in this video :) I love them and will aways stand up for who they are!!!

  • @SummerMurphy12 thats so cool which ones are they?

  • i used to think canadians had it easy because gay marriage is legalized throughout the entire country. but watching canadian people tell their stories really opened my eyes. hell, in america more states allow marriage between first cousins than gay couples. what the fuck?

  • Proud to be a Gay Canadian.

  • I get called a fag for being really close with my friends and we r really close

  • I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING SO NEGATIVE. HOW IS MY SEXUALITY EFFECTING YOUR LIFE? WHAT DOES ME BEING GAY HAVE TO DO WITH YOU. REGUARDLESS OF HOW YOU FEEL, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE MIGHT BE A LITTLE BOY OR GIRL HURT SO MUCH BY WHAT YOU SAID THAT THEY WILL KILL THEMSELVES. ARE YOU REALLY SPEAKING FOR GOD? LAST I HEARD I WAS STILL HIS CHILD. EVEN IF I WASNT RELIGIOUS I STILL WOULD NOT ACT LIKE THAT. IF BEING STRAIGHT WILL MAKE MY HEART AS COLD AS YOURS IS I PASS.

  • "unless you're going to kill me, you're never going to change who i am." this is such a brave statement, since some people actually go so far as to kill.

  • @sidereally I love that statement too. That's playright Brad Frazer speaking. He wrote "Love and Human Remains" This was made into a movie directed by Deny Arcand.

  • Even though I'm straight, I want to be as confident in myself as they are in themselves!

  • Thanks to our neighbors from the north. I cant in my wildest dreams figure out how ans why 66 people rated this video a negative !!? WTF

  • why are the most anti-gay people so hateful? Why so scared of a relatively SMALL minority? What would those people DO if THEY were the minority and most people were gay - would they become suicide bombers ?!

  • Canada is amazing, especially Toronto! Very gay friendly cities everywhere and not to mention .. GAY MARRIAGE! :)

  • @spammam675 haha look how far gays have come people like you have your own issues and clearly need help! Your insecure but for us it gets better! For you

    Probably gets worst

  • I cried for this movie. My whole story came out. I am 51 and have lost one of my oldest friends four years ago, he was then 46. He hung himself because he thought he may be gay. At 46 he did not even accepted the idea. In my country being gay can still be a huge problem especially for those families having a catholic background. And our government is hugely homophobic. I wish we could have this movie in Italy! Thanks to every single witness here. From old, dying Italy

  • @spamman675 fuck ur life bitch. lots of balls over the internet....lame-o

  • @jessa121890 Ill Poop On Your Mother

  • @spamman675 If you want to quote "poop on my mother", then go ahead and do so, as long as you have permission from her beforehand.

That won't change you most likely being an insecure closeted homophobic-yet-homosexual bigot, who can't accept who they are.

That's the difference between us and all of the idiots in the world like you: at least we can accept who we are.

It's pathetic, really, when you think about it.

  • @spamman675 You do realise that my post mainly of a satirical nature, right?

    You do? Good.

Now you can shut up.. you attention whores are really pathetic.

  • @spamman675 how dare u spamman675 crawl away

  • This is why a lot of people LGBT move from the USA to Canada. Yes we do have people who are homophobic, every country does. But you better keep your mouth shut, cause if you hate speech on a person. They have to right to sue you. Sure bullying happens it does everywhere. But it has to stop, I know people in Canada are bullied for this. But it's not as bad as America. Just compare our gay rights between the countries. I am lesbian, proud of it and I hope America can learn that it i

  • I wish that I can say that I can understand the horrible things that the LGBT people go through, but I can't. Though, as an Asexual, I do get Straights giving me the evil eye because I'm comfortable that I don't need a man in my life, nor do I want children. I even get told that it is just a phase and that I should just try sex because it will 'cure' me.

Why all the hate? I can't understand it.

I really love that these videos are being made.

    It gets better everyone!! :D

  • I just watched that WBC video... like the God H8s one? And it just made me feel so incredibly shit for being who i am and being the way i am, and yeah. this made me feel so, so much better. Thank you for making it .

  • GOD...if there's one wish in this universe that I would like to come true be fore I or better off, before the sun explode and destroy this galaxy is for everyone to understand that although some of us are a little different, but at the end of the day, we are all pretty much the same because we're all human breath the same air, live in the same planet, we all been through pain and happiness and last but not least we all got only one life to live so let's all make the most of it.=)

  • @wild2dreamer It gets better, even if it's you who has to make that change to make it better. It gets better. ♥

  • We were born this way for a reason! either to tell homophobic people there is nothing wrong with us! or just plain out to make a difference!

I kno many people who tried to go straight, but they were unhappy, live your life the way you want! not the way others want!

If you have a friend that hates you cause your gay, they were never your friend to begin with!

    Real Friends care.

    Family can't change you!

    Religion can't change you!

you are who you are! live life to the fullest! :)

  • It gets better .... in canada

Here, Homosexuals are killed simply if someone doubts you're slightly metrosexual.

My lgbt friends live in fear :(

  • Remember guys, God doesn't make mistakes. ;)

  • while people say religion tells us to hate LGBTQ persons, it also tells us to love everyone. LOVE EVERYONE, regardless of who they are. being a gay catholic, i can attest that God loves everyone on this earth. if we are to follow Jesus in his image, we are to do the same.

  • @theatergeeksjk24601 That's one of the many contradictions in the bible. It turns you against gays, and then it tells you to love them. You can't do the same at once. You just can't, it makes no sense.

It'd be best to abandon the whole damned thing and follow what feels right and wrong rather than what some bronze age book of desert scribblings written by stoners says.

  • This message is very very nice...But i think that i've not all understood because i'm french XD

IMO is very bad that we haven't a french version of " It gets better " :(

  • Bdsr40 shut your trap-we are born gay this is not a choice so take your hate and leave you are a poor excuse for a human

  • I think Mr Sutton was my teacher too.. srsly, he's so.... MATH TEACHER

  • who the hell disliked this???? 65 people are total homophobics

  • who dislikes THIS??!!!

  • if any of you are from Calgary, or go to school in Calgary, please check out Centennial High School in south Calgary. It is SOOO LGBT friendly!!! the teachers and students are AMAZING!!! it made coming out SOOO much easier. PLZ PLZ PLZ check out Centennial.

  • @G41MCombo what an ignorant statement. good luck in finding a brand of clothing that doesn't have a gay person designing or associated with it.

  • @tomsymes If I don't find any I will have them tailor made.

  • i love the boys from 1 girl 5 gays!! <3

    remember you are loved!!!

    it gets better

    <3

  • Sometimes I wish I was gay. There is no challenge in being a white middle-class American Heterosexual male. Anyone got any Gay pills?

  • @porkythepig007

    Ciao Bello!

What an utterly charming as well as sweet thing to say! But you know dear friend, it doesn't work

that way! It has however, earned you at least one more "fun" queer(gay) friend!

    Sinceramente,

    Blaine

  • this has nothing to do with religion. it has to do with people coming to terms with themselves, about finding out who you are and how to live well and accept your life.

  • i think the best thing about being gay is that it forces you to THINK before everyone else. think about life, think about yourself, think about religion, society, human interaction. everyone else just think what people tell them to think

  • i'm a christian and I completely support gay rights, and if you don't like BITE ME!!

  • @thames5 I would have loved to BITE YOU If I were a poisonous snake, like a black mamba or king cobra and then watch your reaction when the venom hit your blood stream.
