  • Firstly do we want children at the age of six worrying about gender and racial discrimination, their minds are innocent and ignorant to these issues, do we want to corrupt this? Secondly I think that the point of Disney movies is just to show that love conquers all, and it doesn't matter who you are or how you were raised, that you can find love with a man who would be willing to die for you in battle because he loves u that much, or that he loves one of your personality traits so

    Much, like y

  • what does asseritve mean?

  • You know that most of these movies were made when these gender roles were the norm for society or like in the movie mulan that was how women were treated they had no say in anything if a woman did what mulan did she would have been killed and from this project you dont know a lot about mermaids they often married men or that is what legend tells us

    sorry if I sounded rude

  • This was really good! It opened my eyes to alot of things I didn't see in the disney movies while watching them.

  • I really dont think at the age of 7 you want to be scared with the facts of life...It kind of takes away the meaning of CHILDHOOD! In all fairness i would LOVE to be 7 again when nothing else mattered apart from getting barbie to the salon on time, making sure your dolls turned up to the prom looking beautiful and setting their eyes on the boy they would love for the rest of their life... Yes it gives them a happier view of love but at least your not taking their childhood years away from them

  • Well yes. But do you really want to expose little kids to the thought of gay marriage. Iy might be to much for them to comphrehend.

  • nice

  • People do crazy things when they're in love, so don't go dissing Cinderella and Ariel like that. And Mulan??? Mulan fought against the chinese impression on women to save her father? How is that feminist oppression???

  • This is a good start for people who have not yet challenged their thoughts and how movies (especially Disney) affects the way they view themselves and others. However, once you're past that first level, you'll realize that you do need to balance out by pointing out counter arguments so as to not give a biased argument which may make it seem unrealistic and cause people to turn away. It's a great start though, glad to see it.

  • Lmao. Jafar = "the a-hole." XD

  • Has anyone ever noticed how incredibly successful Pixar has become by focusing squarely on the 10yr old boy turning into Man plot base. I guess the Know that women are impossible to please.

Btw what the heck happened to feminism? Yall use to protest Hugh Hefner and Larry Flint, now yall getting in a huff over the Disney Princesses, Smurfette and Winnie the pooh.

    Joyless!?

  • ...Not to be a Troll on this matter but your observations are sound and fairly reasonable. However All these Gender surveys on Disney films tend to avoid the fact that these are retold fairy tales from a by gone era. It would be nice if someone plotted the progression of women Heroins in these movies rather going on and on about how victimized they are.

  • 3.20 she met him.

  • My only critique is that it required the viewer to do all the reading which may get boring for some viewers...maybe include some video clips, and sound clips from the films and maybe some voice over would help too. Just a suggestion.

  • Using any part of mulan as an example is ridiculous. Such as slide at 5:41. The entire point of that movie is breaking gender roles. Maybe you should be more familiar with Disney before you criticize.

All in all the extreme take that you have has your presentation lose quite a bit of credibility. Instead of presenting both sides of the argument you just use extremely slanted information and generalizations.

  • @MrBastalicious We're not criticizing anything, it's more analyzing than anything. It's simply a final project to a class

  • I thought it was clear and to the point. It stuck closely to the topic and included many relavant examples. I wish you would have compared the gender roles more closely to common stereotypes i.e. the cult of domesticity. I especially appreciated the quote about raising children, and I thought the beginning statement of being defined as "boy" or "girl" from birth really set up your piece well. This was just superb because I've always agreed with this, but it's true most are fairy-tale based.

  • thought provoking I'd have to say, but remember that these stories were not created by disney, they were re-created from fairy/folk tales back in the day. So we shouldn't blame disney really.

  • Yeah, I don't necessarily agree with everything either. We just had to take a "feminist" approach to this project. So basically we picked different topics brought up in these movies and analyzed them in a way we wouldn't normally do.

  • like and dislike all I gotta say

  • I was surprised that you were able to get so many examples for girls and boys. It always surprises me when I watch a Disney movie of the blatant stereotyping that children grow up with. I really like your point about there being no mention of gay couples in children's movies. A lot of the time the worst way to teach kids something is to not teach them and then they grow up ignorant.

  • Personally, i dont agree with some of the stuff, but outside of personal beliefs and on content and video quality, the movie is great. It gets the message across to your audience superbly, and the music choice was fantastic. It was very well done and obvious effort and time went into it. A great deal of research was done to show that you are not just rambling and throwing half-baked ideas at people. It creates emotion and a very strong message to the audience. Very well done.
