Why on earth would someone cough in the middle of such an incredible performance. This is an amazing performance , second only to the maestro himself Juilan Bream . Mind blowing.
@Evraem Just pretend that whoever coughed was actually a death metal vocalist who accidentally let out a feeling-filled roar caused by how freaking fantastic this performance was. Hopefully that said made your challenge easier to overcome.
One of the best renditions on youtube....although I found the bass notes in the beginning a bit short and somewhat weak...kind of cut the life of the piece down...could be due to lack of sound enhancement though. But great job...one of my favorite pieces.
@TheRealrocker74 - FYI that is not rest stroke. I was at a master class with Jerome last year and I asked him how he plays those scales, he plays them using tremolo all the way through - ami, ami, ami etc.
Like all Classical music, this piece strips away all the BS found in other music and ask the musician to bare their souls and shoot for greatness. Every classic musician should do the same and not let any percieved barrier keep them from trying. Performances like this only serve to encourage me to work harder. Its, of course, the journey that makes it all worthwhile.
This has got to be one of the hardest pieces in the repertoire for solo guitar. Even Ducharme, who is amazing, has more than a couple obvious flubs. Great performance though without a doubt.
When I get a wild hair and feel rambunctious I think I can play this way and then the beer wears off. LOL. I wish I were good enough to compete in the GFA.
Last night I saw Ricardo Gallen play the three Spanish Pieces, was just phenomenal. So incredibly detailed musically, technique was just amazing, of course. His Zapateado is the best I've heard. Had such a unique approach music in general.
@campb91 Cool, where did you see him? I'll be watching him this coming Thursday in Melba Hall at Melbourne University....Rodrigo was listed on his program, so after reading your comment, I guess he will be playing those pieces!! I can't wait! I love Zapateado!
@MrTxutxi Paco is great, of course, but his Zapateado has nothing to do with this piece. It is an entirely different tune, but thanks for the suggestion.
@GeeZeRWoD The legendary Segovia would have lozenges handed out to the audience and would wait indefinitely for the room to be utterly silent before starting any performance.
It doesn't get any better than this! Watch this with the sound turned off. You can see the inner rhythm of the piece in his left hand alone - just amazing (as are the Fandango and Passacaglia).
Especially around 0:48 when he comes back down straight into madness. I haven't found a version around here that even begins to capture that moment. It's like a ton of bricks right in the gut and he nailed it.
This guy has to be one of the most articulate players of all time, he plays the scales in less than 2 seconds each!!! 1 mississippi...2 mississippi whoa, whoops, there goes two of the hardest scales in the guitar repertoire- perfectly- haha
this is the most wonderful interpretation of this piece that i've seen in youtube, it's almost impossible to find another version better that this one. But the best verion of this piece that i've heard it's a recording of a brazilian guitarrist called marcelo kayath
@RenatoAndrescs I've heard 20 years ago one record from Kaare Norge, and since I never heard better than him... unfortunately where could we find this record ?... I don't know
Beautifully played! Ridiculous question I'm sure, but is this something that can be learned with tabs? I'd like my son who plays guitar to broaden his horizons and like this song or maybe Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt

Tabs lack the expression, and the details that are required to play a piece of this difficulty ie; right and left hand fingerings. Keep in mind this is a very high level (virtuoso)piece of music to play.
Theoretically it may be possible to learn this by tabs. As a practical matter, not possible. This is a fantastically difficult piece to play - even just to read, however slowly. Most students need a good five years of study before they even approach this. If you, or anyone, is playing the guitar and cannot read music, you're not a classical guitarist, and to play this, you have to be. Ducharme makes it look easy: that alone makes him one of the world's best.
You inspired me and now I'll play this piece and make a video response to it! LOL good playing. You deserved to win the one of the most chalenging competitions on the world!
