I had a similar experience last fall here in the mountains in Colorado - I was meeting with a buddy of mine on my back porch & all morning the crows would not shut their beaks - had to be at least 20+ all over this tree. Finally we noticed this giant great horned owl sitting on one of the branches, looking all manner of annoyed. Eventually he flew off, but really who can blame him - those crows were obnoxious!

I believe great horneds steal crows' nests, which is why they flip out around one :)

Reminds me of a time when I saw a red-tailed hawk in a tree and it was getting the shit yelled out of it by a measly red squirrel in a branch right by it! Guess it took it since it lost the element of surprise. : /

I always hear great horned owls out in the desert. I see more barred owl than any other. Occasionally I'll see dead screech owls on the side of the road. If you want to see owls, check out the Louisiana coast, Cameron and surrounding area. I've seen great horns flying during the day, and screech owls at dusk. In the Texas hill county I once saw an elf owl. I'd love to see a Great Grey in Minnesota. Cheers. Thanks for the vid.

No that's just the typical strategy of an owl when under threat. They try to hide by staying still and freezing. They also do it when humans approach, which makes people think they're tame, when they're not.

I could have to say for not being a predatory bird it is by far one of the bravest birds i have evr seen.

You also have the eagles and falcons who are birds of prey but super brave. I have seen those 2 birds attack things that a bird should not be messing with.

They actually do this on a regular basis. Owls will frequently kill smaller birds including crows at night. So when they find a Great Horned during the day, they try and get it to go away.

aparently, these owls wait til nightfall then take out has many corvid(crow family) as they can eat, hence the crows haste at trying to get them out of the area before dark, crows etc are there staple diet, they predate many on corvid,,top nature video
