Ettore Bastianini is one of my favorite baritones of all time. I just LOVE his voice and, for the most part, his interpretations. I never imagined I would leave a negative comment on a recording of his.

I'll just say that the lyrics of this song reflect a young man returning after a long absence to find that his beloved has wept copiously while he was away and then died. He no longer walks past her window, but past the cemetery.
