I don't think people completely understand what they are listening to now. This could possibly be the greatest songwriter/poet alive today, and somehow, he's relatively unheard of.
I have the vinyl. Sounds like he got p*ss drunk the night before the recording.. I love IT ! Brian is amazing. Chuck's song is also sick. Sounds so good coming out of a 1965 record player. "thank the good lord fo' sending his angels in a 49 mercury for lightin' fast gettaways"
@7Pwd21 To play like the video: standard tuning, capo on the 3rd fret OR full step down, capo on the 5th fret Intro C (G) Am F G x2 (the G in parentheses is quick) Verse Am F Am F Am F C G x2 Chorus C Am F C G x2 Am G F x4 G Bridge ("They're not your friends...") F G Am (G) x3 C G F G Am (G) x3 C G
@ziffels i think there are a hell of a lot more people then bruce springsteen that this sounds like just because one person becomes famous that is in this genre doesnt mean he started it because he didnt not even close. and ripping it off?? really i think your a bit over dramatic or just a huge springsteen fan and either way your opinion on music must suck,
I'm one of the biggest Springsteen fans around and even I can say this isn't a "rip off of Springsteen".
This chord progression has been used since the 50s. Even Springsteen took it. It's in a thousand songs - and it's still being used.
Bruce doesn't sing like this.
As for using descriptive lyrics, Springsteen wasn't the first either. Dylan, Guthry, all of Bruce's heroes are what influenced him...who in turn influenced Brian.
@ziffels lmao i love how everybody calls brian a Springsteen cover act, yet when Bruce started out everyone called him a Bob Dylan cover act. Fallon is just doing what all other great musicians do, playing a sound that he was inspired by and making it his own
@ziffels lol that's to the untrained eye my friend! Bruce is just among the MANY that have itched themselves into Brian and the guys. (Tom Petty, Tom Waits, The Replacements, Billy Bragg, The Clash) you name em' he likes em. But nice try. P.S. Bruce and GLA played together live several times btw.
its capoed on 5th but his guitar is tuned down a full step so if your guitar is in standard tuning you should put a capo on the the fret to get the same key, he uses the C Am F and G chords, im sure you can figure out the progression of them
really?? who sings the oriniginal??i know of a few more tin pan alley songs... but never heard this one before...and the lyrics just seemed like bryans style
pure class,

Brian fallon is probably one of the most honest and amazingly talented musicians of the last 20 years. This is such a beautiful song.

Doesn't he have to kick royalties back to Springsteen for this? No offense, but he's just an inch from being a Bruce cover act. . .

@ziffels what someone cant be inspired by someone else?
fuckusernames33 1 year ago
@fuckusernames33 Inspired by? Of course. Derivative? Still tolerable. Rip off of a sound someone else perfected? Probably gone too far in my opinion.
This is Springsteen's sound. Sorry.

@ziffels given that Springsteen is a huge fan and supporter of the Gaslight Anthem I'm sure he's okay with it

@ziffels Just the fact that you are comparing him to The Boss would probably flatter him, even if you think he's imitating his sound.

The cats are all crazy Mona Lisa... they try to say my future is stone.
They say the make all the rights calls,
to all the right numbers that the fat cats know.
But these wheels were meant for burning, these wings weren't meant to last.
And in the end it's all fireworks and smoke rings, it's a treacherous road, baby, try not to crash.

So keep your singin' voice golden, keep your red shoes on.
I just wanna sing rock and roll, and buy my baby something nice to take home.
i wanna dance with poor girls, senora.
i just wanna dance...
dimestoresaints 2 years ago 5
See after all it's a crazy dream baby, all the good cards burn up in a flash.
oh my my it's getting late Cinderella,
how long before these dresses turn right back to rags?
'Cause don't forget about my homeboy, we almost died at them gates,
thank the good Lord for sending his angles, in a '49 Mercury for lightning fast getaways.
dimestoresaints 2 years ago 5
they not your friends, they all wanna sell your blood.
isn't that why everybody signs up?
Forget it baby, keep your eyes on that Cadillac.
And keep them feet dancing for they too old...

So keep your singin' voice golden, keep your red shoes on.
I just wanna sing rock and roll, and buy my baby something nice to take home.
So keep your singin' voice golden, keep your red shoes on.
I just wanna sing motown soul, and buy my baby something nice to take home.
We keep our singin' voice golden, we our red shoes on.
I just wanna sing rhythm and blues, and crack this old heart, baby, made of stone

yeah, that's what I got too.
at first I was like, brian fallon with a capo on the fifth? weirdd. then I figured it had to be either a half or full step down. haha.
