These musicians are excellent and experienced. They've no doubt played this symphony at least a dozen times in their careers as orchestral musicians, if not more. I like that the conductor isn't going out of his way to overly "interpret" the piece. For Brahms, just get out of the way and let the musicians play. For this, they just want a decent downbeat and clear tempo changes. He obviously did a good job getting all this straight in rehearsal. Well done!
This orchestra and conductor are young and relatively unknown. Interesting to compare to the performance of this same work by the blue chip Vienna Philharmonic under Carlos Kleiber also available here on YouTube.
To all the loyalists, this is your gift.Young power with emotion.I,m sure Brahms could'nt be more pleased with his piece. Ulfen Daddy? You're conditioned!Don't speak for me.
BRAVO!!!! Never heard of these people before, but really enjoyed this wonderfully fresh performance. Some detail shined here better than in most performances by worlds best orchestras.
Hay palabras inventadas muy escondidas en un rincón olvidado de nuestra alma, hoy amerita expresarlas después de esta maravillosa obra e interpretación, felicidades:
Good to see the players smiling and involved with the piece unlike some of the established `great' orchestras where the players look like they could play any piece in their sleep ( and frequently do ! ) and cant wait to go home and watch the football match.
this is so nice to see, especially after seeing the mostly-male vienna philharmonic play an equally attractive performance.
i think it's really a shame the the VPO is stuck in the past, trying to maintain that 'genuine sound of european males' (directly quoting a VPO musician). here we see a beautiful performance by a mostly-female, young orchestra. GOOD.
@peacelovebassoon0107 Gender is completely irrelevant to music making. Kyung Wha Chung, a petite Korean woman, is one of the greatest violinists of all time. (I'm a huge fan). There are many other glaring examples out there.
@Penhandball Gender is irrelevant-but opportunity for all is NOT. Women were excluded from top orchestras for many years!! That's called 'sexism' in case you didn't know. It may still exist.
@peacelovebassoon0107 You are a buffoon. Making a comment like that implies that a "mostly-female, young orchestra" should for some reason be held to a lesser standard than an orchestra like the VPO. By making such a big deal of this orchestra's demographics you belittle the fine performance of these players.
As far as your "quote" goes, I hate to break it to you, but there are crotchety old farts in every orchestra everywhere and you have to hear shit like that until you win the audition.
@jkujawski16 I think Peace's comment partially valid and you miscontrued it--women were excluded by orchestras for many years. That certainly was NOT opprotunity. One wonders if the old boy's club still exists.
@peacelovebassoon0107 Yes! Good thing we can have mostly female and non-European orchestras but are forbidden to have ensembles comprised of white men. We've become conditioned, Colored Woman good good good, White male bad bad bad. Got it. (It's called "political correctness.")
@peacelovebassoon0107 I think some misconstrued your interesting comments. But don't be discouraged---this is the new wave and includes more women (and minorities) who have been denied seats in major orchestras in the past. no longer. this is the new 'face' of classical music. Refreshing.

Kudos to the trombone at 8:38, really makes that major scale down from the D5 sound fantastic!
