  • Technically speaking, this game and its sequel are part of the Gradius series. The two ships in the game are the Vic Viper and the Lord British.

  • seems faster on the PSX port, also powerups were the same as Gradius on the NES

  • Does anyone know whether this game is available on the PSN for the PS3?

  • My history of trying to get hold of this is not a successful one. To this day I haven't got a copy of it. The stupid twit in my local games store expected me to pay £24 or $50 for the PSP jap version. I bought a jap import game -bleach, before. It was a stupid mistake and now I'm stuck with it.

  • I got mine off ebay for about $33, far cheaper than what that shop wanted, if you can try Ebay.

  • Stupid Youtube moving replies to the top of the page. I also see you got the game, have fun.

  • OMG I remember running to the chipshop every dinner time at school the play this, haven't seen it in years ...I love this place

  • O_o omg i need to get my hands on this version

  • Arcade boards are pretty tough and most are still around today but fetch a high price, mine was about £100gbp

  • Man that is awsome I'd give anything to come round to your house play that thing to death. Hahaha. I've got the PSP version but its not the same.

Its awsome but it doesn't give me the same thrill the way the arcade version did because of the co-op mode.

  • I only played Lifeforce. Level 3 looks easier here than in the NES game.

  • RE: Tdagrossa:

Actually, this arcade version of the game is considerably more difficult than the NES version of Lifeforce. It only looks easy when an experienced player blows through a level because the game is so fast paced. But this game will eat average players alive.

  • Got PsOne(psx),but it is both sad and unintelligible that it hasn´t ben released here in Europe, only in Japan. :( Cannot play it on this console.. If I could,I could look for and buy it.

The NES version is good, but the one on psx (this one) is 100% arcade perfect.

  • Glad I own these games on the PSP and PSX, they never get old,and are quite timeless classics. Long live Gradius.

  • As well as long live Parodius and Twinbee, got those on PSP as well as Gradius and Salamander, glad Konami re-ported them to PSP.

  • There's actually a PSP port of every Salamander Game out there now. Same with Parodius and Twin BEE. But... it's Jap. Luckily, it's not region Protected. Personally, I love the first stage's music better than stage three actually.

  • I bought the PSP port too. It has Xexex and Gradius 2 (MSX) on it as well. Great games. Stage 1's theme does indeed own hard.

  • ya I used to love stage 3's theme but now its stage 4 thats the current fave.

  • Everyone likes Stage 3's music. Even I do. I like the backgrounds, however.

  • I think the Stage 4 theme is the best.

  • Watch out for the seizure bot!

  • Yeah that thing makes my eyes hurt. Glad that didn't appear in any other Gradius game.

  • Yeah what was up with that thing? lol I always try to kill it as fast as possible.

  • There's nothing more gratifying than hearing the roar from the Stage 3 boss after you defeat it. Absolutely classic. Salamander is definitely one of my fave shooters of all time.

  • The stage 3 and boss themes (Planet Ratis and Poison of Snake) are classic Konami greatness. I think they're the first two really superior songs from Gradius & Salamander. Figures "Poison" would show up in Gradius V along with the rest of the classic boss tunes!

  • Lifeforce/Salamander was my was favorite shooter, until I played Darius Gaiden (and that was mainly due to the awesome soundtrack). STILL, I go back to this game, from time to time. One of the true classics.

  • Darius Gaiden is excellent! It's the game that made me get a Sega Saturn back in the day.

  • G-Darius for Playstation is pretty rad too.
