Gus G is a fine player. However, he will never be the innovator, the composer, or the player that Malmsteen was when he hit the scene. Malmsteen has lost his visionary past [as I was just beginning to play guitar when Rising Force came out in 1984] and has become very predictable now.

That being said, there is no way that Gus "kills" Malmsteen even in YJMs current form.

I saw Alcatrazz with Yng in San Francisco twice at this time. He would just go on stage and gleefully DESTROY! One of shows was going to be cancelled because Graham was ill, but Yng went on anyway with the rhythm section of the opening band and then did two HUGE BRAINMELT unaccompanied guitar solos. At all of their concerts almost everyone who went came to see Yngwie, so it was extra special cool that he didn't just cancel the concert.

Im a Blackmore freak.He admitedly borrowed chord progressions from J.S Bach and used them frequently as the harmonic base for his solos.He was Yngwie's idol. He learned every solo note for note on'Made In Japan'.
