Glad he noticed Brent Smith too. That is one good vocalist(Just make the contrast between Shinedown - Beyond the sun, Shinedown - Simple man, 45, Heroes). He also rocks live no matter how much audience.
ledzeprocks21 come on! R u serious? Cheesy lyrics ?Range?Intrusive? U should B may's fan, whatever ur smoking stop now, May will never reaches Labrie's feet and DREAM THEATER and RUSH are the TOP talking about lyrics, please don't throw up shit by your mouth!THX !
ledzeprocks21 i respect yours too but May's voice will never be so LOUD and so Growl like James voice's! Try The high notes of James Labrie on U tube or listen some songs from Dream Theater's albuns like AWAKE,Images and Words or BC &SL! So u'll dig what i'm talking about!
@TheFacilidade well to me, labrie's voice is very intrusive and has bad tone, and the cheesy lyrics don't help. Range doesn't mean anything to me if I don't like the tone.
@TheFacilidade ooo I don't know about that... I mean I respect your opinion and all, but as far as I'm concerned, maynard's got pretty much everything going for him wayyyy better than labrie with the exception of range, which they are nearly even on.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that he repeatedly brings up Freddie, its so cool of him to dare give homage to someone like him for a metal guy. I think that the Frameshift album is the closest James has come to beeing able to build his vocals in a way that would approach the Queen level of orchestration. But it'll come one day!
In my perspective, if u compare both Maynard has more power... A lot (especially in the studios). Sure Labrie has high range... hell he could break glass break if he wanted to. But Id pick power over range, falsetto or head voice w/e, any day.
Maynard has taste. That what Labrie lacks a little. Labrie is a technically strong singer but he needs to know whats cool and whats not. Especially lyrically. Labrie is atrocious as far as the cheese factor goes.
@concantenation maynard sings from the heart, tool plays from the heart ,dream theater is very tecnical which is perfect for this kind of singer like james, that's what i think
Kind of an odd question, and it seems a bit odd that the camerawoman is asking more questions than the interviewer. Also, just a suggestion, put a high pass filter on the audio to get rid of a good bit of the road noise.
Makes me wonder what Tool thinks of DT.
