The Khmu Rok people live in northern Laos, mostly in the Houn and Pakbeng districts of Oudomxay province. There are more than 50,000 Khmu Rok people and they are part of the Khmu family of peoples that represent the largest group of Mon-Khmer people in Laos. Mon-Khmer people are related to the Khmer people of Cambodia whose mighty Khmer Empire once ruled Laos and the Mon people who have lived in the Thai-Burmese region for centuries and probably thousands of years.
The Khmu are old Khmers. Khmer empire was so vast, the Khmer administration lost contact with them after fighting non stop war with Cham, Thais and Viets. Therefore, they became isolated from Khmer empire. They then don't belong to any country. After Chao Pha Gnoum reunited, the territory, it was then called Lan Sang. The 3 major tribes ( sdach Kranh ) integrated and became Lan Sang. Lan means million and sang means elephants. Consider Laos was Cambodia.
@SouraAmaridh You know who ruled you Khmer Hindu (India) thousands of years ago they the one build Angor wat used khmer as slave even cambodia words mix
