Do you know what happens when you team up the "best" singer and the "best" guitarist and the "best" bassist and the "best" drummer..?
You usually end up with a bunch of prima donnas who sounds like shit together.
It doesn't matter if Dio was a better singer than Ozzy. The singer is not an isolated entity... he has to project the essence of his band into the audience.
There's an intrinsic quality to all of this stuff... that's what I'm saying. For Sabbath, Ozzy was it. Dio was not..
@darodaro9 well it shouldn't be in ( ) because it's Black Sabbath with Dio and it's Heaven and hell. I just like Dio a lot and I didn't like the fact that you have written (with Dio) nevermind it's not a big problem
I find both Singers are the shit but some song i find Ozzy just go with them and same go with Dio Such as Iron Man, and Paranoid is the best with Ozzy. But Heaven and Hell, and Voodoo go good with Dio. Both were amazing singers and ill like to see if there will be a next best singer to keep Black Sabbath going.
regarding sabbath, there is a clear distinction between the dio years and the ozzy years. but all of them were golden because all of them were sabbath. for you people who love ozzy and dont think dio didnt belong, imagine life without heaven and hell, maybe then you will stop debating nonsense and enjoy the music

i love the band black sabbath ozzy or dio as long its geezer tony and billy i love this band bill ward is a great singer and any true fan knows that vinnie is a good drummer too.i love it all but the ozzy years and the dio years are epic and any true music lover knows why.NO DEBATE!!!!!!!
Ozzie and Dio both had there say in the raise of Black Sabbath..I've seen ever version of Sabbath and these two where the best front men ever to grace the stage
I love Ozzy's songs with Black Sabbath, as I love Ronnie's songs with Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell. They are both two of the greatest (as in legendary) vocalists heavy metal has and will ever had. But I honestly believe Ronnie is a better singer. Ozzy is a better frontman.
Face facts folks - after "sabbath bloddy sabbath" the rest of the band just flipping LOST it - the last three albums are terrible and I don't blame Ozzy - his first two solo Lps are some of the best rock Lps ever!
Listen to Born again with Gillan - that sucks too. I was there when this shit came out - the progression in real time fucking sucked - it was painful. I'd got to the point I was sick of wasting money on their shitty LPs.
@Toma4449 You're not the only one! Dio fan here BIG TIME! I think Sabs were more of a group than they were with Ozzy. They seemed to be more of a backing band for Ozzy then. (Not that I don't love Ozzy too, I just think he was better on his own...)
@Toma4449 You're not the only one! Dio fan here BIG TIME! I think Sabs were more of a group than they were with Ozzy. They seemed to be more of a backing band for Ozzy then. (Not that I don't love Ozzy too, I just think he was better on his own...)
I am a huge Black Sabbath fan and I love Ozzy Osbourne, but I honestly think Ronnie James Dio in Sabbath was technically a far superior singer. I can guarantee you that most Sabbath fans will disagree (and I know how sensitive they are on this issue) but I apologise in advance. I just like to call a spade a spade.
@MrGeorgios2020 I agree with you totally. Sabbath with Dio were a total breath of fresh air from the latter Ozzy-period. In my opinion, musically, Sabbath's music assumed a new, updated menacing quality. Great stuff!
@MrGeorgios2020 I like Sabbath with Ozzy better, but I agree Dio was a much better singer. The Ozzy era sabbath of the 70s to me seemed grittier, rawer, almost more punk like which is why I like it better. The Dio years to me seemed more metal, more new wave of british metal (it was the same period of time) which I also love but it was more refined than the Ozzy stuff.
@MrGeorgios2020 Don't apologize dude! I too am a rabid fan of Black Sabbath in particular the stuff with RJD! He was perfect fit for Sabbath. FAR superior than Ozzy. Btw, damn good vid! Check out mine from Chicago one of the last gigs The Great RJD did. August 19, 2009 Charter One Pavillion. I recorded about half the show from second row. The audio turned out terrible but the vid is awesome!! Be sure to check out Follow the Tears. I got a VERY good close up of RJD. The other vids are good too.
Perhaps more technically superior, but that's not the most important criteria when judging these two singers. Ozzys body of work over the span of his career with Sabbath and as a solo artist is superior. His unique live performances and onstage charisma as well as his signature distinctive sound have a greater appeal with Rock audiences. Most of the classic Sabbath music is sung by Ozzy & his trademark songs are more memorable and influential with young and older fans alike.
@rickomi777... Besides that, for decades Ozzy has surrounded himself with some of the most talented & innovative musicians like Randy, Aldrige,Trujillo, and Zakk....setting the standard higher for bands that aspired to be successful.
@MrGeorgios2020 - maybe...but being technically superior don't always mean better to the listener..it's in the tone of the voice that we love the singer not how technical correct the notes are IMO
When i think of DIO, i think about Bonn Scott, Bruce Dickenson, and Brad Delp, Some of the best voices ever in rock music! period! The Holy Diver Album is one of the best Metal Albums ever! If your into the best metal/hard rock music .you have some DIO in your music collection. DIO...You will be missed

Heavy Metal really lost a legend. God Bless you Ronnie, you were and will always be awesome in my books. What a voice this guy had. He was a class act.
@MrFlatspace P.S. a devil's advocate is someone who takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with for the sake of argument. This process can also be used to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure.
The Elf may have been small in height, but his voice was larger than us all. R.I.P. Ronnie... reserve us a place at judgement brother - Last In Line. We are the Last In Line.
ronnie will be missed SOOOOO MUCH!!! i rock out to this song daily! and will do so even more now that hes gone. your music will live on forever DIO!!!!!
I totally agree with Jaymzhellfyre, but I think that after all those years of Ozzfest with Ozzy as the singer in BLACK SABBATH this lineup needs another name.
When they play any song from previous Sabbath albums, DIO says "this is a song from the 1st...or 2nd album we did together" ....he never says anything about BLACK SABBATH.
I think it's some kind of respect, and I respect that too.
I hate how people think that Black Sabbath suddenly becomes Heaven and Hell when Dio is singing. The albums are titled under Black Sabbath. The album Heaven and Hell is a Black Sabbath album, and it's one of the most important metal albums ever. Much better without Ozzy.
Youll find the only reason the Black Sabbath name remained on the Dio albums is because the record label and Don Arden wouldnt let Tony change the name, Bill didnt want to keep the name and neither did Geezer: "it should of been reitred when ozzy left".
Black Sabbath and Paranoid are the most important metal albums ever, the Dio albums are actually closer to hard rock than metal, no expert will disssagree on that, as for it beig better than ozzy albums, well the numbers beg to differ.
@TheJaydeeOldBoy The Dio albums are actually closer to Power Metal than Hard Rock, whereas the classic Sabbath lineup is probably the most influential doom metal band in history. Many experts will disagree with you on this. Also, since when have numbers meant anything? Nickleback's albums have probably sold the same or more than any of Sabbath's albums, Ozzy or Dio. Your logic is then saying that Nickleback is better?
2)Sabbath is the most influential Metal band, Doom Metal is a spin off from Sabbath and many other bands that spornd from Sabbath.
3)The only music experts who will disagree with me are music critics who arent experts or musicians, only journalists with their own opinions.
4) Nickleback wasnt around during the 70s or 80s when record sales really did matter and mean something, Nicklesback is also a mainstream band, Sabbath has never been.
1)Dio era had metal riffs not related to the style or structure or power metal riffs. Power metal isnt determined by the theme of the song, but the sound and style of music writing and structure.
2)Sabbath have some doomy tracks, they are the definition of metal, dio era also contains doomy tracks but even you will admit dio era isnt doom metal
3)Sabbath was influence for all types of metal bands being the first of the genre any spin off can and should be attributed to then, it doesn't however make them a member of any of those genres
4)Simon and Garfunkel... so, are you trying to compare this very old band with Heavy Metal, two different areas of the music business entailing totally different types of music and fans. You may as well compare Motorhead with Take That. Are being stupid on purpose or are you really this moronic?
@TheJaydeeOldBoy "are you trying to compare this very old band with Heavy Metal"
Yes, because Sabbath is also very old. 40 years now, if I'm not mistaken. I compared them to another band that was at the top of the charts at THE SAME POINT IN TIME, so as to prove that numbers STILL don't mean jack shit. S&G sold more records than Sabbath at that time, and would therefore be "better" by your definition (Ozzy Sabbath> Dio Sabbath because Ozzy Sabbath sold more records).
To make that comparison you need to compare metal or hard rock bands. NOT two totally different types of music, fans and business. What type of music is S&G... because believe it isnt Metal or Hard Rock and therefore irrelevant, as i explained in my PREVIOUS comment. Led Zeppelin shot Sabbath to pieces in the 70s with record sales, because they were better as Sabbath also did to motorhead. True its not always the case but with the majority it applies and most certainly with Sabbath
@TheJaydeeOldBoy You're still equating quality and quantity. There were significantly BETTER metal bands than, let's say, mid-90's Metallica, yet Metallica was still selling out arenas, still selling more albums, and still more popular. Again, quality does not imply quantity, and vice versa. Just because an album is good (Neurosis' Through Silver in Blood) doesn't mean it will sell well (Metallica's Load). Dio was leaps and bound a better singer than Ozzy, and his music was much better.
@SexyYfronts Slow down, take a breath, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Black Sabbath was there for all rockers, no matter who fronted the band. \m/
Wow ,I know this is amazing to be in the row of such gifted legends and what else can anybody say . thank you for a wonderful video. These guys are Gods.

1) Dio era Sabbath had epic guitar lines, songs about Kings, Dragons, Voodoo, and other various mythos. So, Power Metal.
2) Sabbath is a doom band. The label might not have been around back then, but they are a DOOM band, probably the most straightforward ever.
3) Actually, pretty much any musician will tell you Dio-led Sabbath was a highly-influential POWER METAL band.
4) The self-titled record was number 8 in the UK for a spell. #1 at the time? Simon and Garfunkel.

@payko526

This comment has received too many negative votes show
in my eyes Black Sabbath consists off, John Osbourne, Terrance Butler, William Ward and Anthony Iommi. Not this fucking goof!
spinksy1979 2 years ago
Both are cool. Seems cool that they don't turn their backs on anyone but embrace the history of the band, all the twists and turns.
