  • 6) …Also to young people who see these old videos on YouTube, please share them with your friends and especially to your parents and grandparents who may not be as computer literate. Share them on Facebook too! I truly believe YouTube videos do generate new sales of this fine music from another time! Maybe direct links to Amazon in the comments, I don’t know… but how can someone watch an amazing video like this and not want to find more of this great music!

  • I wish I could kiss April just one time...xoxoxo and hugs...Louis

  • At 49, and a collector of records since i can remember, seems there are just so many to collect. It wasn't until 2011 when i stumbled over this 45. I collect Spector, Motown, girl groups, and other pop, but this track blew my mind. One of the 'perfect' pop tracks, from the instrumentation, lyrics and vocals. Nothing can be improved. Tempo's name pops up often in my collection, and I have their 'Deep Purplr" lp. April & Nino were appealing, and are treasured in pop culture.

  • After reading a lot of comments here everyone agrees that yes Bones Howe did a great job mixing this record.I listen to my copy often on my JVC and I love the mono sound on it.Its a combination of the wall of Sound and phasing like in the song The Big Hurt, superbly done considering it was the mid 60's and equipment back then wasn't anything like today, but we are all happy Nino and April DID record it back then, that's what makes it such a timeless classic.Nobody today come's close to this sound!!

  • @dsl70 WOW..such wonderful comments..They have been forwarded directly to BOTH Nino and April...Will let you know their reactions...but I can assure you they will be delighted.

    Jim

  • Yes folks I am now 59 and I have a White Whale promo copy of this royal gem. They do not make great stuff like this anymore. The arrangement and orchestration is still as haunting as ever back in 66.Yes the wall of sound style here prevails. This is one you can hear on Sirius 60's on 6 as the lousy oldies stations today do not go deep enough in their programmed music vaults to play the real sixties sounds like this one.One of the best singles White Whale records ever released.Still sounds great!!

  • omg this is sooo amazing to see!!! Love Nino & April

  • they're both so damn sexy here it HURTS!!

  • Nino/April-- I want to let you know that this song is one of my favorites of all time. I am thankful that Cousin Brucie on Sirius Radio played it a while back on the 60's channel and I was thrilled to hear it again. I remember the song when I was a young lad (now 56) and had not heard it for many years. It brought back many memories and I must admit that I listen to All Strung Out at least 3-5 times weekly. My son David who should have grown up in the 60's and 70's loves your music also.

  • mmmm april stevens is one classy lady great song too

  • clip for "all strung out" is so moving, i seem to watch it everyday . it pulls you in emotionally. i do feel the current generation needs to know about this song AND nino & april. i am hoping that this song will one day be used in a current romantic movie. with this, i hope the song gets rediscovered, like the righteous bros did with "unchained melody" in the film "ghost".or picture william holden and kim novak doing that smoldering slow dance in the film "picnic" to "all strung out".

  • @MikeCinSantaMaria Hi Mike--

Both Nino and April read both of your comments about "All Strung Out," and asked me to let you know how thrilled they are that you liked the video and that you enjoy this recording so much. Nino mentioned that it was very difficult to mix this record, and that Bones Howe did a miraculous job making it sound as good as it does. They are both very grateful for your enthusiasm and they thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Jim

  • after just recently discovering the "all strung out" clip ,this is by far, my most watched music video ever at youtube!! can not get enough of it. i did buy the 45 when it came out, but never thought i would see a performance of it, i am so grateful this is available for everyone to see. if you really didn't know the year, it just doesn't seem 1966...this could be something from this year or any year. its timeless."all strung out" would be on my desert island song list.

  • Excellent clip and superb song. This song gave "respectability" to the term "all strung out" at the time. Look at how beautiful and sexy April is, compared to the half naked "artists' of today who have zero class and zero talent. 45 years later and people still love this song. A lot to be said for that. April and Nino are living legends.

  • We share the same hometown, Niagara Falls, NY....

  • Hi Jim,

It’s great to see Nino and April in color, and singing on one of the sixties greatest arrangement and productions all wrapped around the brilliant song that is All Strung Out. I remember buying the 45rpm single when it first came out and I am wondering could you ask Nino if the track was recorded in Gold Star Studios, and did Larry Levine engineer it?

  • Everytime I hear this great classic I am suddenly thrust back to 1966 with my first love. What a wonderful song.

  • I remember the Lloyd Thaxton show as a kid. This is good, but they are lip-synching to the studio recording. A live version would sound totally different, case & point, the Beatles live on the Ed Sullivan show vs. the studio versions of the same songs. I also remember seeing Simon & Garfunkel on that show.

  • Wow the LLoyd Thaxton Show ...now I feel old.

  • I am SO glad this is here on YT! Thank you so much for letting us April and Nino fans see them and re-enjoy their wonderful talent! I could listen to this song forever.:D

  • Hi!

Nino and April - if you're reading this, I am a 19 year old fan of 60s music and you two were and are simply the best. Magic harmonies. Wish you guys the best!!!

  • @NeedlesNPinza

    Hi Needles...

Nino read your comment and asked me to respond to you with his deepest gratitude. He was especially impressed because of your young age, since the demographic of most of their fans are those (well) over 50. In any case, he asked me to let you know how grateful he is for your enthusiasm and for your very kind comment. I made April aware of your words as well, but haven't heard from her yet.

    Jim

  • @jimc1389

Well, I'm over 50, and this is one of the best! Spectoresque! It should have been a HUGE hit!! I still love it. Nino and April should have been MEGA-stars.

  • @NeedlesNPinza

    Hi Again Needles!

April just called and wanted me to tell you that she thought your comments on "All Strung Out" were "fabulous" and that she and Nino both enjoy them so much. You "really put a smile on her face." she said. As I mentioned earlier, Nino was also very pleased, and mentioned that he is very proud of this record.

    Jim

  • Good lord, is this woman hot or what ???

  • This is a wonderful song and video, both Nino and April are real lookers with great voices.I just want to say I like them as much now as back then.ThANKS to youtube I can now enjoy their songs every day.I want to say the 60s would not have been the same without them.April, you and Nino really meant a lot to us baby boomers, bye.

  • @louisyoung1

    Hi Louis...

    Hi Louis...

Both Nino and April called and asked me to send you a note to let you know how grateful they are for your very kind words. And you're right, YouTube is an incredible place to watch these great vintage TV appearances. I just wish we had more videos to post, but none have surfaced in the last several years, and Nino & April don't have any in their collections.

  • @louisyoung1

This one of "All Strung Out" (as well as a separate video of "I Can't Go On Livin' from the same show) was graciously provided to us by Lloyd Thaxton's widow, Barbara. As far as we know, this is the only color performance around, other than a clip from the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" of Nino & April doing "Mr. Businessman." Unfortunately, we have contractually obligated not to publish this clip.

Again, many thanks for your comments, and regards from Nino and April.

  • Natural talent and pure melody~ voices woven together seamlessly ~ a PERFECT pop record ~ I bought this in 1966....

    SUPERB

  • Fabulous song!!!!

  • I'm glad the Righteous Brothers (great though they were!) passed on this song. Thanks, Nino and April. Songs like this are one in a million!

  • I'm g;ad tje Righteous Brothers (great though they were!) passed on this song. Thanks, Nino and April. Songs like this are one in a million!

  • TRhis was Nino & April's last Top 40 hit, reaching #26 over an eight week run in September-October 1966. And yes indeed, it should have gone a LOT higher.) Their first of 20 chart hits (either collectively or as solo artists) was April's "I'm In Love Again" in 1951; the last Nino's almost unbeliebably catchy "Sister James" in 1973. Nino (real name Antonio) was born in 1935, April (real name Carol) in 1936; their real family name is Lo Tempio.

  • This Song has a Total Gold Star Recording Studio sound about it.

    This is One great song.

    Thank you for this listing.

  • This is absolutely awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil Spector and Brian Wilson..........eat your hearts out !!!

  • I love it, I love it, I love it!

  • I first heard this on the Varese Vintage CD reissue of While Whale singles back in 1998. I was born two months after All Strung Out came out (hometown - Rochester NY) and I gotta say it's my favorite Nino & April single. This should have been a much bigger hit . My best to Nino & April!

  • Such a great, great tune! It should have been Number One for over a year! They have a really romantic sound! All of their songs are top notch. And if I may add, April looks so very beautiful!

  • This is one fantastic Song This Song has a Phil Specto Flavor. This Masterpiece had to be recorded at Gold Star. This is when Music was so fantastic. What a Great Song.

From the Greatest Brother and Sister Act from the 60's

    Thank you

  • I love this record. Nino and April were such good-lookin' kids, too!

  • I have to listen to this song at least once or twice a week. Sometimes more than that. This, and "Come See About Me" by the Supremes are my two favorite songs of all time. And Nino and April -- What classy people. I still treasure and cherish the card April sent me about eight years ago in response to a comment I posted on their website. Beautiful lady in so many ways.

Thank you for posting this performance.

    Robert

  • d.a.m.n good carcamano italian kids.

  • This is the favorite song of all time, last heard about 1968 when I was a teenager, full of hope for a life ahead, now at 62, I heard it again for the first time in about 42 years, and it's just as beautiful then as now! Wonderful to dream with this song again! Thanks April and Nino for this wonderful rendition of my best loved and very favorite song!

  • @schrodingercat91

Hi..Nino read your comment and had this to say:

Please tell this wonderful fan that after I read his comment, he has now become my best new friend. Comments like that make it all worth while. Thanks James. How nice that was. NT.

  • @schrodingercat91 Ditto ---a remarkable confection. One of my all time favorites, also. So hopefull.

  • april is such a beauty

  • I was a young teenager in So Cal when Nino and April were all over the charts. Man, I loved these guys.

  • One of the best of the 60s rock songs! Bullseye!

  • A few hundred of these views are mine - what a fantastic song & performance!!! Found out it was released in UK but didn't hit. I found a copy of the US 45 and it's now a staple of my DJ set. Hearing this boom over a sound system is just beautiful! So glad you posted this & i hope Nino thinks about touring the UK sometime soon

  • Classic, timeless and eternal song. Sheer perfection! You can tell that this is a kinescope, because you can tell they filmed directly from a "roundie" television screen. Look in the corners and see what I mean. I thought by 1966, video was widespread. No matter, this is Nino's and April's best song. Period!

  • was she hot or what? WOW! this is a great song. also liked deep purple....and really miss seeing lloyd thaxton too...his show was very entertaining.....a great option for when we needed a break from dick clark ..thanks so much for the upload..love these old clips from past shows.......

  • the hottest male/female duo - EVER.

  • Killer track, as fresh today as in '66. BTW, this is the first surviving color footage from "Thaxton" I've seen! Very cool.

  • I was 7 yrs old in 1966. I used to listen to the radio and they played this song alot. I couldnt get the tune out of my head! I never knew who performed it and never heard this again. After discovering it on youtube in 2010, I did some resarch on Nino And April and come to find out they are from Niagara Falls New York. I was born & raised in Niagara Falls New York and still live there today, although I have a home in LasVegas as well. Unbelievable! THis is PERFECTION! PURE TALAENT! LOVE IT!

  • @mjt5050

Hi--Both Nino & April read your comment. Nino said "How about that ? A very nice comment and a coincidence that he's also from the Falls. Very flattering to hear these nice remarks; If you think of it please thank him."

April would like to send you a personal note, so if possible, could you please visit our website ninoandapril (dot) com, and leave your name/email address in

the private Guestbook? She will write you

  • thank u

  • Absolute, utter perfection! The White Whale label was attempting to expand its artist roster, and this veteran Atco label duet was ideally suited to the label's visionary approach. Indeed, the Phil Spector influence factors into it. But Nino and April had previous proven themselves to be masters of high drama, which they exhibit in abundance here. The flip side, I Can't Go On Living Baby Without You became a minor hit in its own right the next year, and it's just as great. Love it!!

  • @MikeBlitzMag

    Hi Mike...

I forwarded your comment along to Nino...this was his response.

"Wow...that made my day. Please thank the sender with my eternal gratitude. Tell him how satisfying it is to an artist to receive feedback like this."

Just for the record.."Strung Out" and "I Can't Go On Livin.." are also two of Nino's very favorites from all of the recordings he & April made.

    Many thanks for your post.

  • Wow April is soooo Beautiful. And they both sound so great

Wish there were more like them today.

    Cheers thanks for posting

  • great video love them ty

  • Brother & Sister Act.

    Great Song

    Great Arangement

Was this classic recorded at Gold Star?

    Got the Phil Spector Sound

  • I still have this 45, and it STILL hits me as powerfully as it did when it was released in my junior high school years. So great to find this performance of it. This was and always will be an absolute #1 on my list. Great harmonies - great voices and vocal nuances - perfect intonation - one of those songs that had me aching for the refrain to come 'round each time! That summer growing up in NE PA was the best because of this song. Can't get enough of it...baby... thanks Nino & April - in 2010!

  • In her biography Darlene Love implies that Nino Tempo had as much to do with the Phil Spector sound as Phil Spector, and Phil would use Ninos ideas. I have a Nino Tempo 12 inch fromthe 80s called "hooked on young stuff", great track probably from the L.P. BearZest mentions.

  • Great clip! I've had the 45 of this for years. It's mind boggling, though, to think of all the drug references they crammed into such a romantic song.

  • April was a beauty to be sure! She had an understated and tasteful style, and you are certainly right about the eyes. But that Nino!!

  • I now remember why I had a crush on Nino! What a beautiful song, beautfully sung and beautifully arranged. I was around 9 when this record came out, and I am proud to say I still have the 45.

  • @bopava Hey I had a crush on April !! Those eyes did me in !! Got the 45 too. I agree this is one of the best ever.

  • I bought this record and wore it out from playing it so much. This was one of my all-time favorites of the Top 40 era and its nice to hear it again. I hear things now I couldn't hear on the record or AM radio. What a gem!

  • A legacy of Nino Tempo's Wall of Sound years....cooked to perfection here. Great single; one of my all time favorites!

  • women really had great hairdos in those days

  • One of my all time favorites....played the 45rpm to death in the 1960s.

  • You Can Get this wonderful Song On a CD ROm I did with a bunch of Great Songs from the 60's

    What a Great Song

    God Bless

    Disco Free KRTH

  • The Greatest Song this Brother & Sister Did.

This Song has the Phil Spector Sound No Doubt.

Now we Need the Spector in Top 40 Music.

  • @TL250Rider This was one of those songs that I heard once or twice back when it first came out but I didn't know the name of the song or the artists who sang it. That was a shame because I really loved the song. Here it is forty-four years later and I stumble across "All Strung Out" on YouTube. What an unexpected treat! I never would have guessed that it was performed by Nino Tempo and April Stevens. Great song! Great performers! Thank you.

  • Great song - great video. Nino - a 'Disciple' of 'Mr. S.' Does a BEAUTIFUL job.

  • This record is brilliant. The arrangement and orchestration is perfect. And Nino and April's vocals are smooth, soulful and, at times, hauntingly elegant. Absolutely perfect. As a teenager in Michigan, I spent the summers at Camp Dearborn - a beach and campground which had an outdoor Canteen where there was a dance every night. The disc jockey ALWAYS made this the last song of the evening. As soon as the crowd heard Nino's "I just can't get enough of you baby" couples ran to the dancefloor !!!

  • A masterpiece. Righteous Brother's

rejected this . I'm glad they did. Thanks Nino And April. Timeless

  • Made it to #26.Should have gone MUCH higher.Wonderful song.Lots of great songs fell by the wayside back then because competition was so fierce.

  • Thanks for this great rare video of a great duo and song. The album of which it came from was also fantastic. The first time I heard this song I had to get it and am glad I did.

  • Worlds greatest song! Thanks for posting this...

  • Best drug song ever.

Love the way they finish the phrase "just the way you ARE-ar" together at 1:54.

  • This has to be one of the absolute best arrangements and the best performers ever, not just the '60's. I remember this from high school ,my junior year. I thought Deep Purple was great. Then came THIS! Such a perfectly matched pair of vocals. I can't turn my stereo up loud enough! Thanks for posting this video! God,I'm in love with April all over again! :D

  • 1966 is m favorite music year and this is a great tune from that era! Thanks for posting this!

  • I sincerely can't think of a record I've listened to more than this. Still have my original record WW236; had to buy a second copy cause original was wearing out. Thanks Jim you made my day also.

  • Great song! Sounds like a Righteous Brothers record! How this didn't go to number 1 is a mystery! 5 stars.

  • Never enough Lloyd Thaxton to go around!

  • Thanks for posting! This is one of my favorite tunes ever, and I remember watching this show in '66 -- thinking April was the hottest and Nino was the coolest. I was right.

  • an absolutely BRILLIANT single - proving other people could get that 'Spector' sound - an of course Nino Tempo played on some Spector recordings.

He made a SUPERB album of saxophone instrumentals in about 1984 - it was called 'Tenor Saxophone'

  • Nino read your comment, and wanted to let you know he's very grateful.

  • oh. my. god. Jim, you're better than Santa and the Easter Bunny. I'm all misty watching this clip!

  • Thanks Jim - both look gorgeous! Lovely clip - and in COLOUR! thanks! :-)

  • ditto! they're hot.

  • this song is one of my favorites...aged much better than some of the songs that was a hit then. I love love love this song.

  • GREAT CLIP !!! Thanks for posting this, Jim.

April Stevens was drop dead gorgeous.

    Still is !

  • This is such a great song--and what a great clip! And, I've gotta say... Nino Tempo was sexy as hell back in those days! April, while always pretty, looks a bit tired here.

  • Dan....isn't it the best? Now I thought April didn't look TIRED....she looked DREAMY......

  • Overall, she looks good (love the outfit!), but there were a few shots where dark circles could be seen under her eyes.

  • Jim....thank you so much for letting me know that this was uploaded!!!! I am in heaven. Nino and April..no one else could have done this justice.

  • What a glorious performance (though lipsynked)....they are SHINING! And my tears are of joy!
