I am going to preface this comment by saying that I am an Englishman that supports a Welsh Side (Cardiff Devils). If you do not know the words to a an anthem you stand as a mark of respect and keep your mouth firmly shut. If you should hear a political opinion from John Redwood, you should always bear in mind his lack of judgement as so painfully captured on camera.
Vile people. They insult the Welsh national anthem just like they would insult the British anthem. Never mind the British flag featured on the wall, but what is our Union Flag doing lying on the floor.
Stay out of Wales you vile arrogant pair. Paid for by the British taxpayers.
@chrisjoneschrisjones You haven't responded to my posit that we would be £6 billion worse off without the rest of the UK. Surely we should be grateful for this investment?
@chrisjoneschrisjones … All this nonsense about not getting enough money, is political spin from Cardiff Bay to excuse themselves from the responsibilities which they have, and of which they want more. Per capita, more is spent on us than on the average Londoner: considering the disparity in incomes this is simply amazing. I'd rather focus on the generosity of the rest of the UK in their provision as a measure of our value as a nation, than a flag which was created in the nineteenth century.
@chrisjoneschrisjones … More than similarities, we have ties – both cultural and political – which most Welshmen (and women) cherish. We are not represented on the Union Flag, because we were a part of the Kingdom of England – in this century the situation is different and we are considered equal to England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland in status. We are not treated like nothing – we receive more than we earn. If we became independent, we would lose £6 billion a year.
@onfiremusicman nicely argued, but maybe the argument should be that England has many cultural and political ties with Wales/Scotland and its Celtic origins other than the other way round? i disagree with your point about Cardiff bay spin, the Assembly isnt perfect but Wales is better off for having it.i think youll find london recieves more per capita than any other 'region' of the uk including Wales
@chrisjoneschrisjones I'm pretty sure that it is not merely an English construct – at the very least Britain was a union between the Kingdoms of England and Scotland. I believe that John Davies, in his book A History of Wales, states that the naming of citizens as British, post-1707, was done by a Welshman – not merely an English construct. I believe healthy differences are integral to our culture and nation, but similarities remain. Similarities which go beyond our links with Europe.
@chrisjoneschrisjones a few year ago there was these man in my street who look like the grizzerly adems, i contact the police but they say they can do NO thing???
Randomly, after seeing John Redwood on Newsnight just now, I wanted to know if he was the pleb nodding his head to Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. It is, and youtube suggested me this video which happens to have my cousin singing in it!

Of course it's the right flag. I'm British and Welsh. Anything that's Scottish, English or Northern Irish is mine just as much as my Welsh heritage. We are all ethnically British, not ethnically Welsh there is no such thing.
@chrisjoneschrisjones My apologies, I was not thinking straight when I said that 'Welsh' is not an ethnicity. I was merely pointing to its current position as a nationality. Internationally, we would be considered (legally) British rather than Welsh, and the same applies to those from the rest of the UK. I am fine with the Union Flag being flown while the Welsh national anthem is being sung, because I am both Welsh and British. Our history is inextricably linked to the rest of the country.
@onfiremusicman technicly yes , we are the original britons of this island .so i agree we are britons from the island of britain as well as welsh but that doesnt mean we are british as this is a english construct,as for being inextricably linked=so is europe and the world.theres links obviously= that deosnt mean that there cant be healthy differences,i disagree with 'inextrcably',thats very subjective .ps wales isnt even on the union jack=if your happy being treated ike nothing thats your call
Redwood is a man who would introduce education vouchers, privatise the NHS, bring back the death penalty and decriminalise date rape. His big idea for improving society is tax cuts for the rich, in the hope that a few crumbs might fall off for the rest of us.
Given that his last major act was to stab a moderate sitting prime minister in the back, it's no wonder that right-wingers regard him as their king across the water.
Damn right he's a bizarre man! Google the phrase "Young men do not want to have to take a consent form and a lawyer on a date" for news coverage of his insane views the matter.
Thankfully, Wales, as a dynamic and is well past the Union Flag debates of yesteryear and is looking well forward to its renaissance as the Cool part of the UK.
Thank you Cardiff City FC, Swansea City FC, Joe Calzaghe, Gavin & Stacey, Grand Slam etc
Its always been beautiful to be Cymru. Its just unfortunate that this year, the media have found out.
