  • Surely it would be better to mount the gyro under the NXT brick, say on the axis of the wheels, it would still be able to detect the bots rotation, and would protect the gyro from impact damage on falling. Many mems devices are sensitive to impact.

  • @Parax77 The robot design uses small rubber bumpers on both front and back to soften any impact from falling. My experience is that the NXT itself is more sensitive than the sensor. The sensor itself is required for LEGO certification to survive a "drop" test that is worse than any possible HTWay fall.

  • @MyJohnmartin I got those at a local hardware store. Not sure if the same exact system is still available but take a look at Home Depot online and look for "Stack-On 39-Compartment Storage Cabinet". This looks very similar to what I am using.
