This is very ironic that the audio is absolutely unbearable on a video advertising audio secrets. Some moron needs to learn how to use a mixer... It probably says "phantom power required" right on the box, like every other condenser mic. :|
hey guys. I'm looking for a new, good, affordable microphone and I found this one. I was just wandering, is it any good for Metal-vocals? I'm not talking death metal growling, but just Trivium/Pantera/Metallica'ish metal-singing. Would it keep the clarity etc. ?
This video is not meant to demonstrate audio and I am not trying to be Speilberg. It was just made using a video camera that has a built-in mic so it is what it is. it's just a review of one single mic.
I recently purchased a new MXL condenser mic, but i have no way to power it (it requires phantom power). Prior to buying it i had used and XLR-USB cable to input my mics into my computer. To patch this problem, I was thinking about purchasing an ART Tube MP preamp to power it, only because it's a very fair price, and i'm on a tight budget, and from there, use my XLR-USB cable to input the preamp into my computer. i am not sure if this connection will even work properly. i could use some advice
Thank you for the advice! i really appreciate it. But i have one more question. assume i do buy the Tube MP, will my lightsnake XLR-USB cable work from the preamp to my computer, or will i have to find another way to input it?
I have heard really good things about the shure sm58, and i am convinced that i should get one, but i haven't seen them anywhere in my area for under $100 or more. Can you recommend any good websites that i can find it for a cheaper price? thanks
if your looking for a vocal recording mic...a good starting one is the EV cobalt co11 : about 100 usd...or Ev cobalt co9 : about 60 usd...hope this helps

Again, use the SM-57 is for instruments and the SM-58 is for vocals. You can switch them if you want but it will be a different sound (maybe good for the song, maybe not).
If you can get a better vocal mic, then use it for vocals instead but the SM-58 can be used if nothing else is available.

great video as usual, I dont subscribe to many vids on youtube but I like your honest approach and plain speaking.
I own one of these and have yet to really record with it as I have no pop shield or mic stand as yet..hoping to record my band at my house so will be using any tips I can to improve performance.
AAH! The microphone - the first element in your signal chain - and I would argue one of the most important!
I like these video tips because let's face it, the majority of the peoeple doing home recordings have not gone to engineering school and most of their efforts at recording is spent making mistakes and then trying to figure out what the mistake is; and all too often, the errors can be remedied with small inexpensive materials that you have right around the house!
If you can't produce any audio better than this..... don't be offering advice The SM58 is a great mic.... but you are a lousy producer.

would this work on a boom for a web series? how would it handle sound on a boom with 2+ people talking underneath?
do you suggest a cheap alternative to use on a boom and will produce good sound without hissing and the like?

Well, it won't handle any super clean high waily stuff without some distortion, but you can probably pull that stuff with this thing.

The ART Tube MP is not a bad low-cost choice. If you can afford a better preamp, then save up to get it because it will help the sound of your mic.
