  • If you can't produce any audio better than this..... don't be offering advice The SM58 is a great mic.... but you are a lousy producer.

  • these are Awesome :D !

  • would this work on a boom for a web series? how would it handle sound on a boom with 2+ people talking underneath?

do you suggest a cheap alternative to use on a boom and will produce good sound without hissing and the like?

  • So your an expert on audio? But can't make a video with good audio? NOOB!

  • You should set decent audio levels on ur videos lol

  • Ever try the beta version?

  • youre black

  • what's a good cheap speaker or set-up to use with this microphone to get good inexpensive quality sound?

  • Lol, at 1:48... kinda like if its a microphone...

  • wow lol horrible sound video by someone who works off of audo

  • Whenever I record with it my shit sounds soooo dry and bassy. No clarity...

  • @ScorchinBeats fake sm58

  • yea i always hear them talking bout this mic.

    Benson and Tonic

  • Bad sound quality your video.

  • This is very ironic that the audio is absolutely unbearable on a video advertising audio secrets. Some moron needs to learn how to use a mixer... It probably says "phantom power required" right on the box, like every other condenser mic. :|

  • there are some in ebay for just 32 £!!!

    Woww!! Check it out XD

  • The ones are ebay are fake.

  • Good video but, for an audio tips video, i find it ironic how the sound on this video is terrible... lol

  • IM SELLING, The "SM58s" for $140US brand new on Ebay.

If you are interested message to me and ill give you my selling details

  • You can buy them for $99's...

  • you're selling it for more than they cost brand new in the shops, lol.

  • i got mine about 5,6 or 7 months ago

  • lmao @ you licking it. Good review!

  • hey guys. I'm looking for a new, good, affordable microphone and I found this one. I was just wandering, is it any good for Metal-vocals? I'm not talking death metal growling, but just Trivium/Pantera/Metallica'ish metal-singing. Would it keep the clarity etc. ?

    /Alex

  • Well, it won't handle any super clean high waily stuff without some distortion, but you can probably pull that stuff with this thing.

  • Why is the audio so poor in this podcast!?!?

  • what 50 bucks??

    Here it's 130$ Canadian.

  • I have an SM-57 and I love it. It's much more versatile and can be used for vocals too (I like it's sound for that purpose).

  • 1:45

"Kinda like if this was a microphone"

I think it is a microphone, lol.

  • he ment flashlight i think

  • yeah makes sense since he said shinning in your face.

  • This video is not meant to demonstrate audio and I am not trying to be Speilberg. It was just made using a video camera that has a built-in mic so it is what it is. it's just a review of one single mic.

  • I recently purchased a new MXL condenser mic, but i have no way to power it (it requires phantom power). Prior to buying it i had used and XLR-USB cable to input my mics into my computer. To patch this problem, I was thinking about purchasing an ART Tube MP preamp to power it, only because it's a very fair price, and i'm on a tight budget, and from there, use my XLR-USB cable to input the preamp into my computer. i am not sure if this connection will even work properly. i could use some advice

  • The ART Tube MP is not a bad low-cost choice. If you can afford a better preamp, then save up to get it because it will help the sound of your mic.

  • Thank you for the advice! i really appreciate it. But i have one more question. assume i do buy the Tube MP, will my lightsnake XLR-USB cable work from the preamp to my computer, or will i have to find another way to input it?

  • only advice is: BUY SHURE SM58!!

  • you sound like cleveland off family guy

  • I have heard really good things about the shure sm58, and i am convinced that i should get one, but i haven't seen them anywhere in my area for under $100 or more. Can you recommend any good websites that i can find it for a cheaper price? thanks

  • if your looking for a vocal recording mic...a good starting one is the EV cobalt co11 : about 100 usd...or Ev cobalt co9 : about 60 usd...hope this helps

  • Khaliq, why is the sound really bad at this video?

  • This video is not meant to demonstrate audio and I am not trying to be Speilberg. It was just made using a video camera that has a built-in mic so it is what it is.

  • can i use SM 57 for vocals or SM 58 for instrumental?

  • Again, use the SM-57 is for instruments and the SM-58 is for vocals. You can switch them if you want but it will be a different sound (maybe good for the song, maybe not).

If you can get a better vocal mic, then use it for vocals instead but the SM-58 can be used if nothing else is available.

    Khaliq

  • @khaliqovision no true... I'm back to the sm 57 on vocal and is much more real. the ball used on sm 58 give a too crunchy sound. but that's me

  • help please

wich is better for vocals and instruments

    SM57 or SM58

  • The SM-57 is for instruments and the SM-58 is for vocals.

    Khaliq

  • Again, use the SM-57 is for instruments and the SM-58 is for vocals. If you can get a better vocal mic, then use it for vocals instead but the SM-58 can be used if nothing else is available.

  • @khaliqovision hey i got this microphone but can i use it for a studio microphone

  • i have sm 58 ,beta 58 a beta 57a ,lyric 8600 and shure prolouge toooo best series ever and wireless tooo

  • you'd think the sound quality would be better on this clip considering its about a microphone

  • what connector are you using?

  • Do you have any experience with the Shure beta 58 A?? Is this a better mic or just more expensive but still getting much the same product?

    Thanks

  • The Beta 58 has a slightly different sound and polar pattern.

  • how can i connect a mic to my computer, wat do i need and is shure sm58 dat good plz reply

  • if u are recording at home and u want to use this mic do u need a pre-amp or can u just record straight onto your computer?

    thankyou-Matt

  • You usually need some kind of preamp with any microphone unless it is a USB mic.

  • ok thanks 4 the help :)

  • am searching 4 a good usb mic for a professional studio sound quality is there any?plz reply

  • I was trying to install a Forum and I must have totally screwed it up. Try again now.

    Khaliq

  • I have a PG-58.

KG, tried the MusiciansVideoTube, but I got SQL errors when trying to sign up...just wanted to let you know. //dan

  • great video as usual, I dont subscribe to many vids on youtube but I like your honest approach and plain speaking.

I own one of these and have yet to really record with it as I have no pop shield or mic stand as yet..hoping to record my band at my house so will be using any tips I can to improve performance.

    thanks again

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

    Khaliq

  • AAH! The microphone - the first element in your signal chain - and I would argue one of the most important!

I like these video tips because let's face it, the majority of the peoeple doing home recordings have not gone to engineering school and most of their efforts at recording is spent making mistakes and then trying to figure out what the mistake is; and all too often, the errors can be remedied with small inexpensive materials that you have right around the house!
