Im thinking about getting a Bullmastiff. But I want a dog that will be like my shadow, go and do everything I do. You say they are low energy dogs. Does that mean if I go for a walk in the woods, would he rather stay at the house or go with me?
No, I'm sure that he would love to go walking with you. They just aren't like labs which need constant physical activity to be happy. If you're looking for a jogging partner though, I'd pick another breed. They love to run but run out of gas pretty quickly
This video is alot more than a 101. This was one of the best videos i have seen on the bullmastiff. This dog is one of the best breeds for protection. If you live in a city, this dog is great, and your right, you do not want an "OH NO DOG" in the any city, it can be a liability. Rottweilers scares the daylights out of most people. Presa canario's are dangerous{a really BIG pitbull that IS man aggressive}. Not to many breeds fit the bill & since most people live in cities, this dog is perfect.
Don't pay any attention to me!! I'll show them. Goodbye rocking chair. NOM NOM . . It's sad to hear though. I always think it is sad when people just adopt dogs for whatever reason and then throw them wherever.Adopting a dog is a large responsibility. Dogs aren't some inanimate object you can buy on impulse and then forget about. Not that that is what happened, but still. They should have known better. I am glad they chose adoption instead of throwing him out on the street. Good for him.
probably, but there are vastly different temperaments, even in the same litter. Keep correcting the behavior when you catch him in the act. Also, you might want to invest in some bitter barrier spray
What do you think of the bullmastiff as a breed for the first time owner. It would be my first dog to raise on my own, I raised my parents dog the first 4 months of it's life but never been the sole caretaker before. I'll be working one full time job and have family around to spend time with him when I am at work and aid in socialization.
that was basically the case with me, Ranger is my first dog. They are a wonderful breed, but are very powerful and strong. You need to make sure that you and your entire family can handle walking a 120 pound dog. If he takes off running and you don't have control, you're going with him. They are easy to train, but you need to be able to assert dominance over the dog (that includes your family as well). They are also VERY expensive. Puppies cost around $800-$1000. Rescue will be cheaper of course
that being said, they make great family pets and make excellent companions. I have absolutely zero regrets about adopting Ranger. If you and your family can handle a large dog, I would recommend one highly.
Aww cool dog! I have a Boxer Springer Spaniel named and she is great. She is really hyper though so we walk her everyday and she always tends to get to excited around other dogs so we don't take her around the dog park to much. He also loves to play and generally does it once a day, thats a lot of fun. She's friendly to everyone and a great friend. She lives indoors and is spoiled. Her fur isn't noticeable on carpet or couches either.
I die a little bit every time I see someone with their dog chained up outside. I have a German Shepherd and it would kill him to be forced to live outside, away from me and my wife. Dogs are parts of the family, not things for your entertainment. If you can't deal with a dog in your house don't get one!
Great vid, I learned a lot about this giant! Aren't big dogs the best!?
Great looking pup!! Our last three dogs have been English Mastiffs, and your description sounds very similar. Our second mastiff (Gabriel) was the best dog that I ever had. Sounds like the only difference is their size, farts, and drool. Presently I have Sarge he's 5yrs, 240lbs. His farts can wake you up from a deep sleep, if you can fall asleep w/ his loud snoring! LOL He has very loose jawls and he produces a plentiful slime/drool combo that's amazing. I don't mind, he's a great dog! Thanks
thanks man! I love your videos of sarge, he's a good looking dog. I showed a video of him to my parents and they were shocked at how big he is. LOL. I have heard him snoring in some of your vids too. I'd like to get an english mastiff some day
@nicker3290 LOL I don't even pay attention to his snoring anymore. He does like to slime ya, he's famous for the "drive by slime ing". It's always fun to watch Sarge chasing my wife in the morning to slime her before she leaves for work. To him, it's a fun game! LOL
I have Bullmastiff 7-1/2 months old. Sounds exactly like mine. Great companion.

I'm about halfway through Ceasar Millan's "How to raise the perfect puppy" It's a really interesting read if you're interested in dog training.
