This has always been problematic for the NHL. The game is too spread out at times and way too fast to just have two officials calling penalties. There's no way in hell they can see everything. But they should at least have equal authority to call penalties. They don't even listen to the linesmen when they tell them what happened.

The game was just pure violence, Bure was getting abused and cheapshotted and instead of letting the enforcers deal with them later, decided to get the job done himself.

I remember seeing this incident the night it happened on the sports recaps. This was totally pre-meditated. Bure was pissed cause Churla had roughed him up earlier and wasn't called. He took the law into his own hands. Alex Kovalev did the same kind of thing to Darcy Tucker a few years ago. Russian players can be very dangerous when agitated to a boiling point.

Another instance here where a player felt the need to take matters into his own hands because the refs let a bunch of dirty stuff earlier on by Churla go. This has always been problematic for the NHL. The game is too spread out at times and way too fast to just have two officials calling penalties. There's no way in hell they can see everything. But they should at least have equal authority to call penalties. They don't even listen to the linesmen when they tell them what happened.
