I got to do that in the late 1980s. Awesome power station - it turns 100 in 2014. You can only walk up to the generator hall maintenance door now. Somewhere up slope underneath the penstocks is the Porters Pass Fault. I wonder how easily the operator acquires spare parts for the generators now.
Did you get to see the intake at Lake Coleridge? Dangerous. Its submerged so there is a whirlpool when the station is running. Could walk onto its concrete platform when the wind wasn't blowing strongly.
LOTS -n- LOTS o' MEGAWATTS! ;) They have generators of all sizes! Are the baby generators for the in-house lites & exciter windings? Have you ever seen the footage here on youtube of the Kayana-shushenskaya hydroplant in Russia that blew a turbine? REALLY tragic! 75 people parished. Sad.

@kiwigeofreak I have seen the whirlpool and got a VHS-C video of it too.
As my camera flip screen is not working I can not digitise that footage at the moment.
