  • @piraveen1 dad? is that you?

  • Stretching what? What do you keep calling it/

  • I'm so grateful to Mr patrick. way better than my "indian teacher' and the reason definitely the damn accent..

  • Way better than any math teachers I've had so far in college!

  • As somebody else said, you explain things much better than my college professor. That, and your handwriting isn't worse than a doctor's like his is.

    Thanks for these videos. :)

  • at 2F(x) shouldn't it be (-1,-2) i dont understand the arithmetic logic someone please help i have a test tomorrow.

  • thanks this helped me for my precalc class....now i have to deal with AP calculus my freshmen year of highschool =/

  • Thanks so much :)

  • heh im a freshman in honors algebra II. don't take it. its going to ruin your life. it ruined mine. FRESHMEN GRADES DONT EVEN COUNT D:

i enjoyed the video, cleared up alot of stuff for me :)

  • OMG ur vids help so much thanks man

  • Im learning this in 9th .... 11th??? not to mention COLLEGE? what?

  • Thanks dude, my teacher been explaining this for over a week and i did not get it, but dude you're awesome. Thanks once again!

  • LOL, im learning this right now in Grade 11 University math...

  • @iiChocolatee lol same i'm a junior too, precalc

  • i hav a question i think its stupid but when do i know wheater or not to use a horizontal or vertical transformation by looking at the function

  • thanks dude

  • wow, why do you explain this better than my college professor!? WHY!?.....I'm just going to go to class today...pay half attention...come back to my dorm room and tune in to your "virtual class"

  • @funkyboy90000 well, i used to teach as well, so i am not exactly 100% clueless : )

  • @funkyboy90000 They teach this to you in college? Im learning this in grade 11 University math o-o.

  • THANK YOU!!!!! I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD THIS!!!!

  • omg!! thank you!! :D you so awesome lol , i didnt understand a single thing my teacher lectured tis whole week and and wasnt able to do any of my hwk, and they all will be due tomorow =-= ur vid saves my grade lol-- i did read the book over and over many times and but it didnt make any sense lool

  • Why can't teachers be this simple???

  • Awesome video I love it youre great

  • Math 12 in summer school for the first time..... you are truly amazing so straight forward and your format is laid out very nicely keep up the good work

  • your like a god

  • omg.. i seriously had no clue how to do this at all from my GTA. you taught me in 8 minutes. thank you sooo much.

  • lets say you had F and you wanted to reflect it across the y axis and vertically modify it by 1/10. would this be f(-x*10)? or f(-x) *10?

  • wahh thank you soo much! this video helped alot!

  • thanks a lot for the wonderful help!!!!!!

  • this video helped me so~~~ much

    thank you~! ^.^

  • can you help me with something? how to you graph y= (2x+3) squared, what are the transformations, also f(x)=l3x-6l, what are the transformations? thank you

  • save my semester year! thank you!

  • thank for the help. you're a life saver lol

  • I am a crappy artist too, that's why I use a ruler :P

  • Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you.

  • you know you are a genius, right?

  • @waleedhk1 far, far from it. i am a pretty stupid guy (that can do math ok).

  • @patrickJMT just like me

  • patrickJMT your videos are great. I am studying for my frist chapter test in trig.thanks for the help

  • thank you so much you answered my question in the first 50 seconds of your video

  • Thanks for this. I've got my math final in an hour and this was an area that I was struggling with.

  • marry me hahha

  • Very Helpful, Thanks!

  • thanks man, my teacher is sucky that's why i had to look online for help when i found you and you really are a great help. Thanks again and keep teaching us! =)

  • hi patrick..i have problems with my calculus..can u pliz show me how to do this equation...write the equation if y=x cube undergoes the follw transformation in order:shift left 5,vertical stretch of 2, shift down 4..

i have test this coming fri..i need to understand how u do it...

    thanks...

  • Hi is this the answer:y=2 (x+5)^3-4?????

  • Thanks so much you really helped!

  • thanks patrick! your examples really help me.

By the way, do you also teach limits (Calculus)?

  • thank you for making this video.

I did not understand horizontal/vertical stretching and shrinking until i watched this video.

so thank you thank you thank you!

  • thanks so much for this. i jst cdnt remember this... but wen u said that think of f of x as y.. n so wen u multiply by 2 it's a vertical stretch n wen by half its a vertical shrink. i totally get it now.

i hv like watch at least 10 of ur vids today n they're really helping. thanks. btw, ur graphs are pretty neat actuallyy.. cz in every one of the graphin vids u say.. i'm not an artist.. blah blah.. lol

  • Could you write that first function as f(x)=2y?

  • thanks faith for the donation : ) muchas gracias!

and you would not want to use f(x) = 2y since already y =f(x); at that point, it is circular as you are naming a new function in terms of its own self.

(this is being COMPLETELY anal about notation, but that is what must be done!)

if you wanted, you could use g(x) = 2f(x); but i would not use g(x) = 2y as notationally that again means y = 2y (which does not make sense).

i hope this makes sense, if not let me know!

  • Thanks!

  • boo ya!

    no problemo!!

  • please devise a long detailed video on curve sketching techniques to sketch curve of any difficult equation also tell me when you will air that video.....

  • i already have... curve sketching using calculus

  • Patrick, on the function y = 2 f(x), you graphed a constant function with the coordinates (-1, 2). You said that in order to strtch this function, you need to make the first coordinate into -2 and the second coordinate to 4. It sounds like you multiplied 2 (-1 and 4). I thought that you can only multiply this function by the y-coordinates in this case. Are there excepitons, or an I missing something? Is it because it's a union of (-2,4)?

  • Very helpful. My math teacher is just not explaining things, but this really worked. I'm so grateful!

  • Thank you. You have just explained better than my math teacher. I past to advanced functions without realy understand this fundamental part.

  • thanks a lot. this was pretty confusing for me at first but i get it now!

  • wow awesome

gonna pass math test tmr LOL jks

  • Thankyou for this, very helpful

  • : )

i am glad that you think the videos are so helpful! i waste too much time on them for people to say bad things at least : )

  • Nice.Good job!
