No because everyone knows to close the little ad at the bottom. All the annotation does is block even MORE of the screen. We now have to close the ad AND turn off the annotations. It's not a big deal, just mildly annoying and very pointless.

I was watching this on T.V thinking that this is just another car commercial. but when this guys got out of the car speaking Spanish. I just had to laugh my @ss off. =]
And by the way, the guy sounds super cool because he says his phrase exactly like any Hispanic would say it (in terms of mood) but with his totally English accent. That makes the advertisement even more credible and FUNNY
I speak both English and Spanish and the translation SHOULD NOT be literal if you want it to be funny when they say it. What counts is the mood, and both are great.

@ThePh422 That's not true at all. My entire family are documented American citizens, and we are first generation Peruvian. Don't just assume that everyone who speaks Spanish is undocumented. And quite frankly, learning Spanish is more helpful in many ways than learning French when it comes to real-world applications because of all the "undocumented."
Exactly, it is because of the undocumented that spanish has become such an ubiquitous language in America. The importance of the English language is slowly being diluted by the idiosyncratic Latin American version of Spanish spoken by Latinos. LOL funny video. Why y'all tripping about the translation?? I speak spanish and I think its funny. Translation is an art, you translate the intent, not just the words. In english do you say "to throw a party", in spanish you say "to give (or to make) a party". The intent is the same although the verb is different.
Likewise, it might sound funnier in Spanish if he says mira, go in there and buy me some chips... but in english it sounds a bit rude and its wittier to say "while you're in there.."
@MsAppledance You're absolutely right it's just a hilarriouse commercial, but your'e wrong about the translation, yes it's an art, but it's not just about translating the intent. I could say "just go in there get some fuxxx potato chips" or I could say " would you mind getting me some chips while your'e in there?". They both have the same intent, to get chips, but in the overall connection with the video is lost with one, one is funnier than the other, and the difference is in the translation.

@175726 it doesn't matter if they changed the words around, it still means the EXACT same thing. Also, if we translated EVERYTHING literally, most of it wont make sense. Its just how the languages are. If i said "Me voy a casa de Johns", what im literally saying is "im going to the house of john". But if someone asked what i said, i would say "im going to johns house" because that's how it'll make sense in english

But that's not the message I was trying to relate. I'm a professional video producer with many successful videos, and It just irked me to see a waste in the final scene for non-spanish speakers. Part two of my response is next.
@7Omega9 The creative director of this video who had to edit the film was obviously not a spanish speaker, he should have had a second opinion instead of trusting his primary interpreter, or the video should have been pre-viewed by a spanish speaking focus group before release. This is obvious considering similar comments on the video.

I thought you were saying they screwed up the translation from English to Spanish, but it's the other way around. I agree with you. What he says in Spanish conveys the message "stop complaining, get your ass in there and buy me some chips." In the English subtitles however, he has a much more polite tone, which does not convey the same message.

There is no screwed up translation! The commercial was originally written in English, but the translation was too long to fit in 29 seconds. That's why that last line was translated that way. We get the gist of it. The original line was left in the subtitles either unintentionally or because the producer thought that's the way we speak. I think it works wonderfully. Very funny.

LOL funny video. Why y'all tripping about the translation?? I speak spanish and I think its funny. Translation is an art, you translate the intent, not just the words. In english do you say "to throw a party", in spanish you say "to give (or to make) a party". The intent is the same although the verb is different.
Likewise, it might sound funnier in Spanish if he says mira, go in there and buy me some chips... but in english it sounds a bit rude and its wittier to say "while you're in there.."

@MsAppledance You're absolutely right it's just a hilarriouse commercial, but your'e wrong about the translation, yes it's an art, but it's not just about translating the intent. I could say "just go in there get some fuxxx potato chips" or I could say " would you mind getting me some chips while your'e in there?". They both have the same intent, to get chips, but in the overall connection with the video is lost with one, one is funnier than the other, and the difference is in the translation.

CORRECTION:
@vivaLApico - What he says is "ya entra y compra...." so I guess the actual translation is more like "Go in already and buy me some potato chips." Either way, their translation is wrong!

@vivaLApico - you're 100% right. It's SUCH an awesome commercial but the translation is wrong exactly where you said it is. His reply is "Look, go in there and buy me some potato chips" and not what they wrote. You'd think their multi-cultural ad agency wouldn't have made such an obvious goof, yet they did!

LOL love this,but...Funny thing is that this commercial has to do with learning spanish.Only the translation they use is incorrect.The correct translation is: "13 non stop hours in the car, and you dont have music" BUT they wrote it as (13 hours non stop and no music) THEN THE OTHER GUY SAYS "look, go in and buy me some chips" BUT they wrote it as (Buy me some chips while your in there)....You would think they would hire someone to ranslate correctly LOL

This is one of the funniest commercials i've ever seen. It's actually funnier in spanish than it is in english, because they translated it wrong, the guy at the end actually says in literal translation "Look go in there and buy me some potato chips"... not "Buy me some chips while you're in there", I can't believe they made such a great commercial and screwed up the translation...

@175726. Thanks for clearing that up. As the second guy spoke I thought his tone and stance really didn't "align" with the english subtitles on the screen. I speak very little Spanish but I just knew something was off. So thanks again.

@175726 it doesn't matter if they changed the words around, it still means the EXACT same thing. Also, if we translated EVERYTHING literally, most of it wont make sense. Its just how the languages are. If i said "Me voy a casa de Johns", what im literally saying is "im going to the house of john". But if someone asked what i said, i would say "im going to johns house" because that's how it'll make sense in english

@175726 They did not screw up the translation. "papitas" does literally translate to potatoes (it's actually more like little potatoes), but in many Latin American countries, "papitas" is the proper word for chips.

But that's not the message I was trying to relate. I'm a professional video producer with many successful videos, and It just irked me to see a waste in the final scene for non-spanish speakers. @7Omega9 The creative director of this video who had to edit the film was obviously not a spanish speaker, he should have had a second opinion instead of trusting his primary interpreter, or the video should have been pre-viewed by a spanish speaking focus group before release. This is obvious considering similar comments on the video.

@7Omega9 But "Buy me some chips while you're in there" is more ""Passive Aggressive"" than the intended "Aggressive" response of "LOOK, GO IN THER AN BUY ME SOME POTATO CHIPS", which is a more humorous and appropriate response to the equally aggressive insult of "13 hours and no music"!!!... @175726 I just read again your first comment and realized I misinterpreted it the first time. I thought you were saying they screwed up the translation from English to Spanish, but it's the other way around. I agree with you. What he says in Spanish conveys the message "stop complaining, get your ass in there and buy me some chips." In the English subtitles however, he has a much more polite tone, which does not convey the same message.

@175726 im agree with you, but in Spanish and also in English sometimes you don't always translate very literal all stuff you read and listen. I think the bad translation was made on purpose, so that way Americans can understand was going on with the situation... but anyways its still a great comercial and its true is funnier listening in spanish..

There is no screwed up translation! The commercial was originally written in English, but the translation was too long to fit in 29 seconds. That's why that last line was translated that way. We get the gist of it. The original line was left in the subtitles either unintentionally or because the producer thought that's the way we speak. I think it works wonderfully. Very funny.
