It should be noted that the CIA's program of acquiring ownership of what were ostensibly civilian organizations (i.e. media outlets) parallels the modus operandi of the Nazi SS; I would be interested to learn if they acquired ownership of any non-media related industrial concerns as well. I bring this up because the SS did this, and did it primarily as a way making themselves virtually independent of any other governmental power.

At the time the printing press was invented, the corruption inside the Church became known, and many left the Church. Today, there is the internet, and while it is another opportunity to spread disinformation, ihere is also a risk that things like this will be found out by too many people, with the consequence that the gov't will lose its legitimacy. Maybe that is what they want.  What else except a revolution can put an end to a nationalistic USA.

Landowners largely financed the industrial revolution in the UK, increasing as renters and creditors their economic power and political influence over the way in which the new industries brought rapid growth of revenue into their coffers. With military support, an industrial empire was born on the back of colonised foreigners, enabling the gentry to rent out conquered land to natives and build a macro economic system based on exploitative labour/trade and luxury goods. A model adopted by the US.
