  • He composed both solo and for DP. He's just being different. He is to me more jazzy funky flavored, while Blackmore is pure old school rock/hardrock and that how we knew DP.

    Still, I enjoy both :)

  • WTF is so great about Morse anyway ? He came up with NOTHING since he joined the band but playing Blackmore's songs. Really, not a single HIT. So yea ... Satriani is great and also an artist. But Morse is just a guitar player with zero skills in composing anything.

  • @AlexOne82 allow me to laugh...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha omg ur killing me. Really? zero composing skills? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @AlexOne82 and he made sometimes i feel like screaming. Its rly hard for an old great band to get a new hit cause fans dont accept it even if its good.

  • @AlexOne82 oh wait, gotta laugh some more hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @AlexOne82 Now go learn something about music you stupid fuck!

  • @hellsSG : seems I know a lot more about you . Nice argument to sustain your affirmation. Either you don't understand English or you are plain stupid. Read again moron!

  • Two of my most favorite guitar players with my favorite band, it doesn't get any better than this.

  • DAMN! Steve Morse and Satch, two of the best ever .

  • I love this DP tune but it must have been influenced by the Liverpool Five's tune "She's Mine", also on Yu Tube. Both borrowed a little from the bass riff on Rick Nelson's "Summertime" and then gave it more punch, especially DP'

  • @Oddsman57 Gotta agree with you..but I like both LP5 and DP tunes as well as " Summertime"

  • Satriani X Morse= we won.

    suckers...

  • 4:01 Damn, Legato vs Alt pick...

  • 4:01 joe satriani pwns :P

  • that was good shit.. satriani was making the call and morse was responding with very similar stuff but in his own style

  • /watch?v=zCh9zEggTTw our cover check it out!

  • How cool is this? The improv is awesome

  • Did you have some other video of this live ?

  • @Giltindor

    Or this complete song ?

  • GARY MOORE IS KING !!!!!!

  • I miss ritchie. Still, this is great stuff.

  • I don't think Joe and Steve care who's better... so neither do I!

  • satrani borrowed morse's guitar - not bad AT ALL!!!!

  • satriani isn't using an ibanez!!!!!!!!!! this is new lol

  • blackmore + fender strat = deep purple

  • Thanks a lot for posting .... great moment , great music

  • those who speak, don't know; and those who know, don't speak -

  • talking about who is the best between one guitarist and another one is stupid

  • No way to argue that Deep Purple + Satch = BADASS!!!!!

  • i think the rediculous thing about arguing about who is better in this video, is that they are soloing together! they are combining there incredible talents and mastery of the instruments/music to make something greater. this isnt a "guitar battle" this is music!

  • Steve Morse and Joe Satriani?? Amazing!!!!! Plus George Lopez is singing hahahaha

  • Steve Morse and Joe Satriani?? Amazing!!!!!

  • Morse makes music, Satriani makes solos

  • Did Joe forget his guitar and had to borrow Steve Morse's Musicman?

  • @verbotenco often, one person just shows up to watch the show, the other person notices the first person, and invites him to play. the first person wasnt planning on playing, and so has to borrow a guitar. im assuming that is what happened in this case

  • here here!

  • Here Here!!

  • Two for the price of one

  • A cover band playing DP

  • @metacosmos

Indeed, the greatest DP cover band. Now, we both we'll get killed by Gillan hordes.

    RITCHIEEEEEEE!!!!!

  • @trento777

You're both morons. There's nothing you can do to make Ritchie come back. He play that wierd shit now on and since Gillian is on band, you're never going to see Ritchie on Deep Purple.

  • @YoLpIsBest Thank god he wont be back at Deep Purple

  • joe is a tad better, but hey us guitarists give slack to the others. This isnt martial arts competition!

Steve is awesome and they are both way above the average guitar slinger.

    Chill!

  • Ritchie is a smiling down on these boys. I think Joe is a wonderful fit. You do not replace someone like Ritchie Blackmore, but you can fit in. Nice Job!

  • btw 6:45 + totally reminds me of early Wishbone Ash ;) Same type of harmony, always sounds great ;) Very Phoenix-like

  • Satriani can really combine fast playing with melody, great vibrato and feeling, the guy is a really "complete" guitar player. And he has brilliant tone in this video (even with that sound quality)

  • Never thought Joe Satch will even play a musicman~lol

  • ritchie is the best

  • Couldn't agree more, better, or worse, people do NOT know their shit. In fact, many are just common idiots who just post crap for nothing. Sorry, but you idiots make the newer generation really look stupid and thats a real shame. steve is NOT a student of Joe by the way, he is a student from a different university. They are BOTH amazing guitar players, and both are teachers in their own right with individual styles.

  • These two virtuoso guitar players are the cream of the crop..and man can they play.

One thing though. Where's that Deep Purple Sound?

Satch and Steve did a fine solo number..liked it a lot but where is the Deep Purple sound? I think I said that twice. Wanna here it again?

  • Nice playin!!

  • why keep comparing! Steve is a Student of Joe..so what else? they are both good but totally different...

  • Nice interplay!

  • Playing with Gillan, Glover, Paice and Airey... wow !!!!. I agree, comparisons are stupid, two great guitar players, Morse and Satriani... Its like saying that Mozart is better than Bethoven... Please, just enjoy, listen, and maybe you guys can learn something.

  • from 6:1O to 7:10.....it's just an epic moment

  • Awesome video. Two guitar greats having fun together. They actually mesh very well together. I hope Morse is invited out for a G3 in the future if he ever gets the time. :)

  • A big thank you to the record company for demanding a single to the In Rock album.

  • @larteonceagain

Except that it wasn't actually on the original In Rock album, it wasn't on until the remastered album.in 1995, and there's a blistering version on there with unedited guitar solo's.

  • @midnighttilldawn

I know that it wasn´t on the album, since I have been playing it x times ( many, many hundreds ).

What I meant that they required a single to support the album.

That´s the reason Black Night exists.

    But you knew that already.

  • they are both very very good. But there is something about Blackmore.. exciting and interestring. Almost like Hendrix in a way...

  • hat to both joe n steve..way to go both of u..

  • Guitar Gods...

  • whoa i was there when i was 16!!!!! smoked a blunt during 'strange kind of woman'. it was epic.

  • To me,the most interesting thing about this session is the sound of Satriani's guitar. Even if it's a Steve Morse's Music Man, you can hear Satriani. So, every guitarist should learn: the secret is in the hands!!! You can buy expensive signature guitars, but unless you learn to play, they won't make you better.

  • @belarus84 you're right, the sound is in the hands of the musician (and in his head), provided he plays the right type of guitar. if he doesn't, he'll struggle to manage. These guys have real mastery of the instrument . if you give a star another guitar, he'll sound like ...himself!

  • joe schools steve at 3:46 and 4:04!! :)

  • Why hasn't Blackmore been on tour with G3? That would've been cool.

  • Because his ego wouldnt let him hes to busy with his fairy project that he started after Rainbow aka Blackmores Knight

  • @dirmo77 I haven't heard Blackmore's night, but I thought it was just a side project...

  • I actully think most of it is great however when thay play Smoke on the Water acoustic with his wife singing...lts just say it wasn't mean't to be done that way.

  • @pigletized I think I understand what you mean. Does he only do acoustic stuff now? I think I always appreciated his lead guitar playing the most, along with his songwriting. A more acoustic-oriented group, I think, would be slightly weaker than his other material.

  • @Alex11710 Yeah that's mostly what he does now, folk and classical. I read in a recent interview he said he only plays rock ocassionally at a local pub! I don't know what to say, I guess he wanted a style change, but he has been playing acoustic on the side for many years.

  • I think it's because he is into the classical, acoustic thing these days with Blackmores Night.

  • Steve Morse !!! New Legend!

  • bla bla bla ... better.. worst... better.. worst,.. ...................... just listen the music, seus otários, nunca se compara alguem com ninguem, chupadores de ovo

  • Steve is better than joe. Joe is better than steve. Shut it all of you. Ritchie blackmore is twice as good as the both of them on there best day. He is fantastic and he had commercial success. They aren't doing bad but they don't have eleven castles and money to spare.

  • @avp010994 Think Steve has a few castles thanks to Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth. Are we ranking great guitarists by castles now?? I know Eric Clapton has one that he rents out to Jeff Beck.

  • Could y'all imagine a G3 tour with Steve playing with Joe and Mr. Vai!!!!

  • @guitarspeare hell throw Eric johnson in there and call the tour G-four-ce!

  • What is so cool about this vid is that Joe is playing one of steve's guitars. It feels like Joe was just there hanging out and they asked him to get up and play. (not sure if that is the case) Two gods playing together with so much repscet for each other is just amazing. And they are indeed humblers of all us steel string players.

  • Technically speaking, Steve is better than Joe, but that's only one(?) side of the coin. Joe is a friggin' monster when it comes to phrasing and articulation. Listen to the studio version of Love Thing for an example, Joe's guitar literally sings!

Of course, Morse is also very musical, his tunes on High Tension Wires is all about compositional finesse and feeling. Luv them both!

  • Hey For what joe is it touching with steve's guitar?

    Was it surprise?

  • I agree 100% with you immortalsoloist. Those moron will never understand.....they just love to lose their time quantifying something that cannot be qyuantified..come on guys....

  • Morse VS Satriani is like ... which eye's better? :) Fantastic guitarists both!

  • Technique, satriani is much better than morse

  • are you kidding? you obviously don't know anything about steve morse.

  • I know everything about him, but i think joe is better.

  • Steve is better than Joe

  • @666Vlada666 First of all you dont know how to speak. Second, you are an asshole.

  • They played well together......This was more music than sporting event IMO......I liked it.....Who cares who's better.....In the end it's the tune more than the gymnastics.....

  • Two masters!!!

  • I have played and played so much that my fingers bleed and I still cant get my music to sound this good...

  • yo immortalsoloist,brother u r so right,great comment.

  • TREMENDOOOO !!!

  • Great to see both of my fav players jammin'

  • I think most of you should shut the hell up and grow up! Joe is better than steve Steve is better than Joe here is what I say screw YOU!!!! Cause none of you can create tunes like Satriani can and none of you can play with immense diversity in all styles like Steve Morse so respect both musicians and enjoy the music and stop being such noobs and coming here and acting as if you know your shit... Cause from these comments most of you show the height of ignorance! Shut up and let people enjoy!

  • well said

  • Thanks man I am just sick of these lame comments.... These are world class players and they have the utmost respect for one another so when these you tube douche bags come in and start bashing such virtuosos it just ticks me off...

  • i think joe is better in everything. Dont you think?

  • @jmthurow94 : I'll say it again Joe Satriani is Joe Satriani and Steve Morse is Steve Morse they both are heroes to me I don't need to see who is better because they both are original and diverse.

  • @immortalsoloist

I say punctuation is so important.

  • @brownpants69 Good for you.

  • @immortalsoloist I totally agree. Completely different players in their approach and both very well versed in how to play guitar. Plus, neither of them can touch Charlie from Busted

  • @immortalsoloist joe taught steve vai

  • @immortalsoloist

Yeah, you right. Blackmore is best, all shut the fu******

  • @immortalsoloist no one can replace Ritchie's magic dude...they are great musicians,no doubt about it...

  • @immortalsoloist God bless you..they are great ones..both of them, in different ways.. :-)

  • @immortalsoloist

Heck now, you're THAT right bro!

  • @immortalsoloist your sooo fucking right

  • @immortalsoloist Maybe you've overlooked the whole point of this format, which is to comment, rate, thumbs up or down a video and just in general 'say what you will' about it. You sure about 'none' of us can play/create? Wow dude, do you need a minute- to maybe get your shit together and look out that window? There are more players that can spank hiney than you are aware of. I have students well on their way to spank town and very soon.

    Look out that window man.

    EC was here.

  • @nottubee Wow!

I think I am well aware of that. I am a graduate in guitar performance myself. But it seems like you overlooked the entire point. The point was simple these two musicians have been inspirational in many ways for many guitar players. And for people to come here and bash them is pure ignorance and pathetic arrogance. And seems like you haven't got stuff together to come here and judge me my friend. Cause I know there are tons of great guitar players all over.

  • @nottubee I know a bunch of them personally. And have met a lot of great virtuosos during my time at music college. I have been looking outside the window all along. But I would not like to see a bunch of people out here bashing these two that really have made a mark for themselves. Just because I am defending them doesn't mean I am not aware of a lot of other great players. Arrogance doesn't get a person anywhere. Good talent is good talent whether old or new.

    Cheers,

    Take care.

  • @immortalsoloist FUCKIN OAF! THERE IS NO COMPETITION IN MUSIC!

  • @2patero Screw you ASS HOLE! Did you even read my comments before writing this you ignorant PRICK! My whole point was music is not a competition you idiot!

Next Time read things carefully before being a lame TROLL!

  • @immortalsoloist Brother you have obviously misinterpreted my comment! I meant 'fuckin oaf' couldn't agree with you more! I was actually supporting your argument! Anyway PEACE brother JAM HARD!

  • @2patero My apologies man. I seriously did misinterpret. Actually a lot of people love to have arguments with me and stuff. IT kind of gets annoying at times. Once again I apologize for my harsh words. Keep rocking brother and stay awesome thanks for the support :) Truly appreciate it. Wish there were more people like you that took music this way. That way we would have tons of good music listeners and appreciators than just posers that claim to be cool with their lame arguments. Stay EPIC! :D

  • @immortalsoloist ROCK ON BROTHER! Rather than compare one against the other, I like how the individual differences compliment each other like this performance!

  • @2patero Well said bro.

Exactly that's what music is all about right the differences in creativity from the individuals that can play all sorts of great stuff but in their own way. It's all about sharing that creativity and enjoying what they do. You are absolutely right man :)

  • and people think morse is better than satch.. people who actually play guitar should know how difficult satchs songs are... but a good jam in all

  • nice jam!

  • Wedge..haha oh wow...Ian isn't what he was..hes been belting out tunes for 45 years straight...but "horrible" dude.....you have no idea what he means to rock n roll

  • Man I want to see more of these two together...

  • both are such talented musicians, its incredible

  • Satriani with Steve's MusicMan??????????????????

  • i hate all the joe satriani haters. People who think morse is the best is on fucking crack cocaine. If morse was good he could actually keep up to satriani.

  • cool opinion bro.

  • Thanks for the footage!

Deep Purple have always had amazing guitarists with Ritchie Blackmore, Tommy Bolin and these two...Steve Morse and Joe Satriani.

  • what happened at the solo?

  • no its an ernie ball music man morse signature!!!!!

  • I miss Ritchie Blackmore

  • Satriani is setting the pace.

  • Blackmore actually shits on you for being THAT ignorant

  • Idiot..

  • and you can go fuck ur mother too

  • Dude how ignorant are you to be talking about Blackmore

  • if u dont know what u are talking about shut the fuck up .we know blackmore and he is a fucking scum bag. he is the greatest guitarist i have ever heard and i have heard him play in private many times but he is still a motherfucker

  • You're a douchebag and you know nothing about music.

  • wat guitar is joe playin?

  • perhaps fender

  • I think the Steve Morse's guitar...Musicman...

  • The one of Steve i think :))

  • He's playin one Morse's guitar, I believe it's a Paul Reed Smith Guitar... I really don't know, they are pretty rare guitars.

  • Comment removed

  • this is one of the best jams ever

  • Brilliant! 2 great guitarists on the same stage.

  • The satchster is so professional sshesh !

  • JoeSatch on a musicman SteveMorse model

  • Satriani is better than all the guitarist dead of alive !!!

  • I Love Steve Morse! D=

  • awesome

  • Madafakarzzzz

  • Wow, Satch holding something other than an Ibanez. Don't see that too often.

  • is steve's lick between 04:52-04:56 from another song?

    thanks in advance

    awesome video :)

  • Comment removed

  • sounded like cliffs of dover

  • yep, that's because Steve knew that Joe was played with Eric Johnson, imho )

  • Fucking yeah!

  • I'd like to see Morse's band in G3 tour..

  • I would love to see myself in g3 :D THink i ll do pretty well, nowhere near these guys

  • don't feel bad. happens to us all mortals...

  • NO MORSE!

  • Shut your fucking face, unclefucker!!!!!

  • u're a boner-bitting basturad, motherfucker ))))

    nice quote)

  • You clowns just don't get it; you're obviously not muscians. Most of you have this "my dick is bigger than yours" mentality. It has no place in music. Steve and Satch are two of my favorite guitarists - two styles - both incredible and both do things the other can't do. But this isn't a competition.

  • Nicely said my friend. They both have an extraordinary way of playing a guitar.
