What I love most about this interview is the window he allowed us to see him in - as nothing other than what we are - just a regular person, with dreams/talents/a life and child growing up in front of him. He didn't ask for fame- just tolerated it as a result of what he went on to accomplish. Aren't we all the lucky recipient of him pursuing his craft?
How old are most of you leaving comments? If you can't appreciate anything else about this man understand this - he founded the most independent venue for all new artists and developers of film today. It is called SUNDANCE You have all heard of this haven't you? It is an open stage for every new director/writer/actor/producer . . .etc. to project themselves into the international arena. Thank you for all of your short term attention span.

Seems like he was always a bit too rebellious; rebelling against the stuff that's already bohemian is kind of redundant. He's really good, and I love many of his films, but I think he could have been better if he hadn't always had a kind of reticence and suspicion of everything. You miss a lot that way, actor or not.
@abed83a funny you should mention that as when he was younger, he has a striking likeness to a younger bill clinton.... but using older people to play a US president is unrealistic... I doubt we will see men his age or older becoming presidents in immediate future of this country. for some reason, youth is being celebrated more and more in this country and older generations & people are being discriminated against on many social levels. A tragedy & another reason European culture supersedes us.
I never cared for The Natural; I thought it was about just about everything EXCEPT the character's relationship to baseball. It was too mythological for me. Bull Durham was a superior baseball film, in my opinion. Redford's most complex character, the one I think got the closest to what he's really trying to say and came closest to the thread that runs through the overall expression of his art, was Hubble Gardner from The Way We Were.
Robert Redford is everything Hollywood should be and could be if they let men like him run things. Heck, let's just say that could go for this whole country as well.
Redford looks like he's tired of the crowd applauding every time Lipton mentions a movie. That's the one thing I hate about this show. Constant butt-kissing from the host and crowd.
Well done Lipton, you really let your guest speak and personify there experiences ! this man (Robert Redford) is a true legend and his Journey is tough and honest !!
@athens1950 Check you into a Chicago downtown hotel once. Handsome. Robert do a remake of the movie "Body Heat" where naive attorney Ned (William Hurt) is entranced by the alluring Matty (Kathleen Turner in her film debut). Ned is manipulated into killing Matty's much older husband. Remakes should be much better. with Idris elba and zoe saldana.
@athens1950 money and success makes good looking people even more attractive. But mostly it´s money and success that attracts women which seems like they do not have much pride.
~The way he conducts himself is interesting.
I didn't find this interview boring whatsoever.
A good actor and intelligent person.I enjoy his movies & television performances.

I won't even see his movies anymore - who wants to hear him bash anyone else who doesn't agree with his politics. Money talks.

Wasn't he originally considered for the role of Michael Corleone? Are there any interviews where he comments on this, or mentions that?

There are a lot of parallels between Redford and Jeff Bridges; I would love to see them together in a film.
