  • how can i get a rifle like that or haw are called

  • Thanks. Very helpful

  • Simple but complicated? !?....lol that's like... it hurt so good....lol your a funny man potterfield....a funny man. Alittle too funny...lol jk...good vid

  • But.... Will it blend?

  • Cool, I've got magic weights and spacers in my ARs.

  • Mr Rogers + Chuck Norris = Larry Potterfield

  • look at Kalashnikov he just needed a potato and and some Toothbrushes to build the AK :D simple and awesome

  • Ar15 dont got no full auto, thats a m16(a1?)

  • he forgot to explay the full auto function. lol

  • man , YOU ROCK!!!

  • when I first shot an m16 style rifle, I heard the spring in the stock and I was like... "what the fuck is this? a toy?" and then my dad slapped me and said not to dis a great gun

  • Think of it this way trigger is pulled which releases hammer which hits firing pin and hit primer which ignites gun powder and ejects the bullet and hot gases push back the bolt carrier group which reloads the weapon.

  • @Jake6comments Wrong. Pull trigger, hammer falls striking the firing pin. The firing pin impacts the primer which explodes igniting the powder. The powder burns creating gasses that push the bullet down the barrel. When the bullet passes the gas tube port, gasses enter the gas tube. The gasses fill the gas tube with enough pressure to push the bolt carrier group to the rear. In doing so the bolt cam pin unlocks the bolt and the ejector ejects the spent case. (cont).

  • @Robbob9933 fag

  • @TrentonJamesWollman /yawn You bore the piss out of me. Go away until you are wearing man pants.

  • @Robbob9933 you do know that what you just said is the same as what he said. so forth, fag

  • @Jake6comments (cont) The bolt also recocks the hammer. The buffer assembly absorbs the recoil of the bolt and forces the bolt forward readying the trigger and stripping a round from the magazine. As the bolt continues forward the bolt cam locks the bolt sealing the chamber. You are now ready to fire again.

  • just a bunch of magic weights ans spacers

  • Excellent video Larry!!! Makes great reference material. Thanks!

  • soooo, if you cut that little part off the trigger it could be full auto?

  • wait..gas operated? are the m16 and m4 also gas operated?

  • @timmy8358

Yes they are. What did you think how they work, in the first place?

  • @timmy8358 Ok since no one explained it for you. The gas comes from the round that was fired. When the bullet is getting pushed out some of the gas pushing it goes up that tube to reset the bolt and load the next round. If you hold the trigger (full auto) the firing pin keeps gettin released over and over striking each bullet that is loaded into the chamber. The gas is just what loads the next round and sets the firing pin in place. Notice how you need to cock the gun with the first mag.

  • Water in tiny gas tube = fucked. Would not trust my life with it

  • @Derail07 what would you choose?

  • @longtrangm1a 5.56 barrel

  • @Derail07 - SIG556 gas system. Just like a 552

  • gotta love Larry Potterfield, He's the Mr.Rogers of firearms.

  • where an i get a cutaway ar like this in the uk?

  • the 2 things i hate about canada is the ar-15 rifles are considered restricted and i only have my unrestricted permit fml and the ak-47 is prohibited/banned :(

  • Simple AND complicated? HUH?? What the hell is that supposed to mean?? Oh hell, just buy an AK47 instead as that decision is smart AND SMART. And they are simple AND SIMPLE, and reliable AND RELIABLE. Unlike the crappy AR15/M16 platform...

LOL @ "simple and complicated". More like complicated and unreliable...

    AK47 for the WIN anyways.

  • @SargentBlah 1. Its a play on words. 2. You say AK I say Shotgun. 3.The AR is designed for killing, not for protection...If your going to hunt or assault, you better be smart you better be right and you better not have a gun that misses or youll go hungry...again. I wouldnt use an AR to protect my home with...but I wouldnt want to use an AK either, but I would use an AK on a pile of unsuspecting watermelons from about 10 stories above. Thats about all they're good for these days.

  • Can you shoot 5.56 on a multi cal lower with a .223 upper????

  • @95Eg6SoCal if the upper is 223. then the chamber on the barrel is 223.cal, both my uppers say 5.56 nato and shoot 223. just fine though?

  • @longtrangm1a yup, its just you cannot use a 5.56 round in a 223 barrel

  • Me: What made it rattle?

    Larry: A wizard did it.

  • Why do the fuck people may dislike this video. I don't get it, damn, it' simply a machine, some gears and steel, at least you can remain indifferent, but why dislike? I still can't get it. But who gives a fuck, guns do it better.

    P.S.: I apologize for this..

  • how many other people cut open a buffer to find out what makes it rattle

  • @TopOfTheLine3 how many people ruined their rifle cutting it open?

  • I really enjoyed the cut-away views of the rifle. Thanks for the great video!

  • finaly, the vid I was looking for, that guy rules!

  • Are all Ar-15's gas operated? No matter the brand?

  • @rmm1086 Well, they all have a gas port in the barrel. Most just direct the gas to push the bolt back. Some, however, have a piston between the gas and the bolt.

  • Wow thats awesome!!

  • How do people come up with this sort of innovation in a gun, simple amazing

  • Thanks nice video.

  • why not take out those weights and put in a piston, same weight, yet more reliable.

the entire "buffer" system is fucking stupid

just add a spring guide like one on the ak-47

  • @xGothimox

How is the buffer system stupid? please explain. keep in mind that the AR has a lighter recoil then the AK why is it always a fucking pissing match between these guns. I own both I just happen to own more ar's cause I like modifying them and making them one off custom guns.

  • Probably the most educational minute and a half of my life.

  • How long did it take you to design and mill that AR to be a functional cutaway? Wicked cool!

  • its simple and complicated, and that's the way it is!

  • He should try to fire that rifle :D

  • I didn't know that's what they mean when they say " gas operated".

  • It means it's operated by gas.

  • that would be a cool ar to own haha

  • Great but not educational.

Explanation rationale behind design decisions, particularly in comparison with AK 47, would stop pointless debates and myths.

  • Good vid! A real firear. I'm so tired of clicking a video like this only to find out that what they are really showing is an AIRSOFT GUN!

  • Load IT !!!

    j/k

  • Guy seems nice in the video, but like most people in the gun world, he'd probably be an asshole to you in real life.

  • the foward bolt assembly does it release the bolt in the bolt hold back position?

  • @dills2403 no.

  • @fusionstar916 thanks... i got it now.....

  • such a shame a prefectly good ar had to be cut open for this deminstartion. just makes me sad.

  • There's almost a million of them out there, why cry over one? At least this shows how it works..

  • so thats how the foward assest works

  • thats why ar-15 rifles suck byond imagination! they had to complicate the hole by using a gas tube instead of a gas piston!!

  • I like the usability and design of the M16 platform, but I have three problems, one of which you mentioned. The first and most important is the caliber, the 5.56 is not good enough for stopping men. The second is the gas tube instead of a gas piston. The hot gases blast carbon into the receiver, heats up the bolt, and evaporates lubricants. A gas piston is a time-tested, cleaner way of operating a weapon. And the third is the star chamber. Too many lugs, too hard to clean.

  • i did not get a lot of that. but ill give you this: a bullet is a bullet. doesnt matter if its 7.62 or 5.56. you can have 30 7.62s but if you miss all of 'em and i hit you with my one 5.56, i still win. It's a tried an tested design, yes, 7.62 does give more stopping power, but 5.56 is lighter and allows more ammo to be carried. and in a war, youll probably be cleaning your rifle when you know its absolutely safe, other wise probably not at all, so its redundant.

  • I'm just talking from a Soldier's perspective on what would make the M16 better. That was all. It's just a pain doing weapons maintenance for hours trying to get things clean, especially the star chamber. And Haji likes to shoot up on adrenaline and drugs before the fight, the 5.56 becomes a pellet from a bb gun, one of my buds had to shoot an insurgent five times before he finally fell. Sure you can carry more of it, but if it's near-worthless then we have a problem.

  • im not saying this to start anything but, i get so sick of this argument, i could kill u with a .22 and b4 u say anything about it not being effective, let me shoot u with one and u tell me its not a deterrent, or i could shoot in the head and kill instantly. again, not trying to start anything and when i say "you" i dont mean you.

  • @trippyhatesu Exactly, if you know how to place a bullet, it only takes one to kill. 30 7.62 rounds in the arms and legs vs. 1 5.56 in the head..... not hard to figure that one out. But i understand both sides of the argument.

  • @ Mr2ndAmendment.... Will the gas tube, over time, get fouled and clogged, or is there sufficient pressure from the gas from the fired round to keep it clean? Thanks!

  • It should be fine on its own, the amount of pressure and heat in that tube during every shot should prevent anything from being built up in there. The problem though is that all of that carbon gets blasted out of the tube and straight into the receiver.

  • @ Mr2ndAmendment. Thanks!

  • Thanks Larry!

  • So if you file down the disconnector and the point on the hammer that catches it, would that make it fully auto?

  • You'd have the hammer ride the bolt carrier as it goes forward which would provide insufficient force to activate the primer.

  • @gvpcachnc

I'm not sure, you should call the atf and ask.

  • @gvpcachnc no. your rifle will just be non operational single shot.

The hammer will follow the carrier forward and that is all it will do. However a slam fire will be highly likely as well as a firing out of battery.

A true full auto m16 has an auto sear which holds the hammer cocked until the bolt is locked, when the carrier moves the last few bits, the rear of the carrier pushes the auto sear, and lets go of the hammer. And repeat process.

  • @fusionstar916 ARs cant fire out of battery.

  • You can't get a license on the AR-15 in Sweden.. Stinks, doesn't it?

  • also with many design flaws

  • i love that gun

  • so... if you machine a hamer with out a disconector it will be fully automatic, nicht var?

  • Cool vid but shit gun.

  • Let me guess you prefer the ak.

  • AK is the better design. Especially in terms of reliability and durability.

Thumb warriors at its best. LOL they can't argue...

Give me as many thumbs down as you want, thats my opinion.

  • What are you talking about '' thumb warriors at its best''

  • under sustained fire the gas tube will melt on the ar-15

  • Yep, and that could be very dangerous in a serious firefight.

I hope the US Army will finally "find" a better weapon for their troops.

  • look up the lwrc psd, it has the same ar 15 design, but the gas system is designed a whole lot better, its in testing to become our new standard carbine.

  • the military m16/m4s hav a thicker gas tube ( its made out of some other material, not shure what kind ) that can take alot more rounds before you have to worry about you gas tube over heating

  • yes it worst design ever

  • not the worst, but definately not the best.

  • What part is it that casues the most jams? the Gas system?

I want a AR style Rifle in the Future, but I don't know if I should go with a traditional design or a upgraded model.

    HK 416

    Lr300

  • The fact that the gas system dumps right into the bolt group/chamber has a lot to do with it. Fouling can build up and cause failures. For military use, I think the updated gas piston (HK 416 style) action is a huge leap forward. For civilian use it's not a big deal, just keep the rifle cleaned and lubed, and it'll be great.

  • The magazine is the worst offender. Using damaged or cheap mags will jam up any rifle. For AR's lack of lube on the bolt rails and bolt will not help.

  • The system used to operate the ar15 is called a direct impingement. It blows gas onto the bolt to push it back. The gas is full of carbon and unburnt powder which gets all inside the receiver. If you want an ar15 but don't mind spending some extra money I would look into getting an ar15 with a gas piston upper receiver. It uses a piston to operate the bolt instead of direct gas pressure. That way the gun stays cleaner and cooler and is a lot more reliable.

  • the lwrc ar 15 does not introduce any carbon into the system except the left over carbon in casing, so the system is more clean and requires less mantainence, plus it allows the weapon to fire when water logged.

  • Do they use a gas piston?

  • that's because it uses a piston system as opposed to a gas system (like the AK47)

  • it is simple and complicated..

  • @xrikimarux thats the way it is ..... lolol

  • Great video, I would use it as an educational aide.

  • Hey, look at that, it's not jamming every time!

But yeah, it's a great design, and still simple enough I could put one together while sitting in front of my computer. Or rather, I could if I could get the barrel that's been backordered since November.

  • Cool...

  • 5 ****** 's

  • Very nice, Thank you.
