I have driven a CVT, they are rubbish. Accelerate hard and the revs reach the red line and stay there - not like a normal car were the gears are used to reach a speed. This gives the Toyota POOR ECONOMY! They got that bit mixed up. I would go for a VW/SKODA Superb with a proper DSG gearbox. Lower CO2 than the Toyota and far more miles per gallon. You also get more for your money. Toyota is trying to catch up to VW/SKODA and others, but it's too late. Avoid CVT at all costs, maybe Toyota too.
@urbex2007 The revs reach the redline as long as you keep your pedal on the floor, because they are suppose to in order to accelerate fast. Contrary to common believe, the best acceleration is not always achieved by keeping the rpm at maximum torque. The best acceleration is achieved above the peek torque and that sometimes means on the redline. Want better economy, use less trottle.
I like it. But the lack of engine options may be the cause for it not being my next car. Put a damn turbo on that 2.0 petrol, then i would be looking less at the Audi A4
I just buyed Avensis Executive version 1.8L 147 HP. It is my dream. Low consumption, reliable, presence on the road, confortable and highest volume in ist class.
After drive tests with new Mondeo, new Accord, Passat, C5 and Chevrolet Cruze I choosed Toyota for realistic arguments.
