@SkPuzzle The only reason that Galactica survived was because they had outdated and less efficient systems, and IIRC, Pegasus' systems were offline or not connected to one another during the attack.
Four or five other battlestars would've been mauled by the Cylons in the first engagement, and the Cylons wouldn't have underestimated the fleet and gone after them harder than they ever did in the show. Galactica and Pegasus together could barely handle a few base stars.
@InsurrectionistFungi the reason why galactica survived was because she didn't had networked computers, a network allows a virus to spread and infect all the computers that are connected ;)
@warbossgrotsmasha23 In reality that is the only reason why the cylon attack was so Successful because of the back doors added to the cnp program. without those backdoors the Colonials would have ran over the Cylon fleet easily. In the series we see Galactica hold off 2 or 3 basetstars at a time and note Galactica is one of the oldest ships in the fleet . Not imagine how epic a battle with the newer battlestars supported by the older Columbia Classes against the cylons.
@Crusnik2000 don't forget that cylons evolved too and were a match for the colonials :)...clever bastards disabled the colonial fleet instead of facing it head on, but who wants to have casualties when you can be all sneaky like and stab them in the back :P

It is a pity that were wasn't a mothball fleet that can be called upon in the case of an massive attack like this without the upgraded computer networks and software. and if you think about it having a mothball fleet is quite common nations around the globe why didn't the colonials have a mothball fleet I would never know.
To all Colonial units, Cylon attack underway. This is no drill.
